We tried the chrysanthemum milk tea, passionfruit basil green tea, lychee coconut slush, and green milk tea. Next time I'd definitely going to ask for less sugar for my drink, but the flavors were all excellent. Each drink comes with black tapioca pearls or jelly included in the price, which is a nice touch. They accept cash only, and the service was quick and efficient. We paid around $31 for four drinks. The interior is also really cute, decorated with cute little knickknacks and trinkets. Would definitely recommend if you're craving boba. read more

I've been coming here for years and their drinks do not disappoint. It's a small shop so there's only space to get your drink and leave. But the store is cutely decorated and has a tv playing Chinese shows. The menu is so large and I haven't disliked a drink I've gotten so far. I got a taro slush with their homemade fruit boba and a peach yuzu fruit tea and they were amazing. The tartness of the fruit paired so well with the soft tapioca. We finished up lunch in Chinatown and wanted to have some boba for dessert. There are a ton of options but Try Again stuck out because of its extensive menu. These days it can be hard to differentiate boba places from each other since the menus are more or less the same. However, there are lots of unique items and I thought it was really cool that you could "Mix and match" milk teas (perfect for someone who is as indecisive as I am). It's a very small but super cute shop. No seating so it's just a to-go place. The employee was really friendly and super patient as we tried to narrow down what we wanted to drink! - Sesame hojicha milk tea with grass jelly: I looove black sesame and hojicha so this was a beautiful combination. I would go back just for this drink! There was also a ton of grass jelly, and it was in smaller bits compared to most places that just give giant globs. - Yuzu lemon peach green tea with lychee jelly: This is very citrus-y and lemon-y, as the name implies. The employee recommended pairing it with lychee jelly and it was great! Super refreshing - Seasonal pearls drink: I don't know how often they change this, but it was some sort of mango green tea with crystallized blueberry/strawberry pearls. It was also supposed to come with yuzu lemon pearls, but they were unfortunately out of stock at that time so she recommended substituting it with lychee jelly. The crystallized blueberry/strawberry pearls were not what I was expecting at all! They kind of had the texture of raisins and were slightly crunchy? Very very unique! The mango green tea wasn't too sweet, but with all the toppings it was certainly a filling drink. Next time we are back in the area we will definitely come again! read more

Next time I'm in Calgary, I'll have to stop by here again for the avocado smoothie boba. I love that they were more than accommodating in switching from dairy milk to coconut milk. The little shop can only fit maybe 1-2 people. It's a little cramped with no seating, but it's well decorated with Totoro miniatures. Kind of reminds me of a quaint Japanese craft room. Let's keep this short and sweet. We were in Chinatown and wanted to grab bubble tea to go. Try Again Beverages House is tiny, cramped and tucked away in the basement of the HSBC building (take a quick left when you walk down the stairs) so this fit the bill perfectly. No room to sit and linger. They also have a million drink options to choose from. Seriously, every combination you can think of is on that massive list. I like how you can get three types of fruit combos but that's probably why their drinks are so pricey (mostly in the $6.00 - $7.00 price range). This is cash only (duh brah, you in Chinatown). I think it's run by a daughter and mother combo. The mother scolded me for taking photos of their place inside...but the daughter/younger person working was a sweetie. Don't really understand all their "no" rules but it is what it is. Papaya mango jackfruit milk with lychee and green apple tea ($6.75 each) - I went with the fresh fruit option of papaya, mango and jackfruit (!). Tasted like real fruit and was refreshingly good. My friend had her go to drink, green apple tea, and she was satisfied. Good place for bubble tea. They are fast and you can grab some Chinese buns while you're in the area. read more

Yummy Yummy! Try again has come along way since it first opened. Tucked away on the basement level on 3rd Ave just under HSBC. It's a small cubby hole that caters to take out only, there is really only a 3 person space to stand. But that really isn't what it's about here. The girls here are always super friendly~ i cannot emphasis this enough. There isn't really any parking aside from paid street parking but I find that it is fast enough for a run by. (But maybe don't risk it?) Tea selection ranges from powdered milk drinks to fresh blended fruit drinks, all of which are yummy, always perfect proportions. The one drink they have that sets them apart from all the other places has got to be the "fresh taro." Yes, that is right, they use fresh taro! And it's really good! The bubbles are soft and I have never had a batch of hard bubbles. They serve the bbt in sealed top cups, so it travels very very well until you puncture a hole at the top to drink it. The sheer speed that Wendy P solved my Bubble Tea craving astounded me. Dare I say, I might like it better than my favourite in Vancouver, Dragon Ball. Reasons? Fresh fruit flavours and a robust offering of combos, milk based, tea based, and avocado choices to boot. I settled on mango + peach with jellies. Love the fact that jellies (or pearls) are included in the $5 price tag. It's tiny, it's easy to miss if you don't know where you're going, and it's cash only. It's pretty wicked! PS. First time trying the traditional milk tea bubble tea with tapioca here. The menu is basically a list of flavours - very extensive list that looks pretty confusing. I just asked the lady for a milk tea drink. They offer drinks in one size only. It costed around $5, cash only. I think it tastes pretty good. The tapioca tastes better than Chatime's. Next time, I am going to ask them to put less ice and no sugar (not sure if this is an option available like in Chatime). I would likely come here again - but not often as it is quite a steep price for just a bubble tea drink. The lady inside was quite nice though. Try again is probably the most photogenic I've seen. Ironically they downplay their positives by being overly stingy and somewhat rude. We got the pea flower mango tea which was suggested by the kind worker. I asked if it was overly sweet and the worker said it wasn't. But it was overly sweet for sure. The bubble tea cost me 6 cad which is pretty pricey and the no eating and drinking signs in the store made me laugh. I tried to take a picture of the menu so I could remember prices and flavors but got yelled at by the older owner of the store. She even proceeded to speak a different language about my photography to her daughter. I saw a sign saying they would also charge you an additional .25 cad for grabbing more than 1 straw. My tip to the establishment and the mean owner is to remember its 2019 and there's a reason you have no line whatsoever and THE ALLEY next door is booming. If you're a tourist skip this place and check out the other amazing bubble tea places nearby that allow photography and aren't uncomfortably quiet and awkward. read more

Unlike places such as: Bubblemania, APM, or the Dessert House, Try Again is take out only - so don't be disappointed in not finding tables and chairs to sit at. However the interior of the place is very warm and cute with splashes of bright colours and an array of Asian gadgets. Despite it's teensy quarters, Try Again's menu is extremely vast, offering a huge variety in fresh fruit drinks, milk teas, slushes, as well as specialty drinks. All drinks can be customized too, where it can be a singular flavour or mixed depending on what floats your boat of taste buds. The service, efficiency and quality of the drinks are truly exceptional. Try Again is my favorite place to get a fruit slush type bubble tea. The pearls have a great consistency, and the jelly is always tasty. The sheer combinations of flavors are astonishing, and I usually choose the daily special just for ease. The girls are helpful and their memories are something to marvel at. I went there about 5 times a week for a few months, before I became more of a nomad. After being absent for about a year, I returned to my favorite bubble tea place in Calgary, and they remembered me! A neat looking establishment. I got the papya, jackfruit mango smooth with no milk. The pearls are pretty good as stated in previous reviews but unfortunately all i could taste was mango which overshadowed both the papaya and jack fruit. I also got a 2 minute long berated speal from the owner for trying to take pictures of the menu. She said that it was 'illegal'. First off, the owners are nice. I was short on cash one time, and they said it was alright to pay them back next time. The place is situated in a small little under ground thing. The interior is small, but the decorations make a cute and cozy little place. As guessed from the description, it's take out only. Now, back to the drinks. They have a huge selection of flavours. I've tried several fresh fruit slushes, and all are fantastic. Never too much ice, and filled with flavour. Its a shame they don't allow pictures though (If you ask, I assume they will allow it though?). Their decorations are the cutest (lots of mini terrariums, toys) and it's a tiny space for the amount of customers they process. Can't compare the bubble tea places at the moment because I never went anywhere else after coming here for the first time 6 years ago. The fresh fruit combinations are unbeatable and they have (can't emphasize enough) a mind-blowing amount of choices that seem always available. There are powdered and iced teas as well, and you can usually get any of these hot in the winter. The quality is really consistent and the pearls are warm, chewy, and better than most other options. On Saturdays they offer mini pearls which are a cute addition to iced milk tea drinks. Also, the owners (mother and daughter) are really nice and they definitely remember faces. Most places I have been to use powder in place of fruit but I watched Try Again use real fruit and I was quite impressed. After "trying again" unsuccessfully many times I finally managed to be there during their very limited open hours. This place is cash only and the menu is very extensive and a little confusing. We asked for a recommendation and picked the fresh taro almond smoothie. Maybe it's because I heard so many amazing things about them and it took so much effort to finally try it, but, whatever the reason it was a little underwhelming. They added a lot of almond syrup and while I like almond, it definitely overpowered the fresh taro, which I could only feel but not really taste. I think I might have to try another drink before making up my mind about this place but for now I won't be frequenting them (not that I could even if I wanted to). read more

Last day in Calgary and wanted to get some tea after walking around downtown. Got the pineapple lychee green tea with pineapple jelly. Most possibly the worst tea I've ever had! The tea was way way too sweet. Like a 1000% sweet, I almost choked on my first sip. I literally poured out half my drink and diluted it with water to make it drinkable. Didn't taste pineapple or lychee. The woman at the counter, maybe the owner, seemed grouchy. She was upset when I took a picture of the menu. Instead of just telling me no pictures allowed she pointed my to the other menu on the side and asked me to read above the sign (which had a small no photography sign). A co worker and I went in yesterday because i was excited to introduce her to the great bubble tea and the owner didn't even look at us while servicing us.
