Not very good when it comes to food quality or portions. At least for what I ordered. The special in the window was Beef and Lamb Gyro, a must try. Everything says quality and good portions. Okay, lets do it. Unfortunately, the food is not very good and the portions were silly on the appetizer. The gyro bread seemed stale it crumbled, the lamb and beef was average and there was an odd after taste. Threw that whole thing away. The pita slices, after I air fryed, them and dip were average. I really wanted a mezza platter and am very glad we found Truly Greek. I got the small app for my dinner and it completely satisfied my craving. My 9y/o shared the hummus and pita. It could almost certainly serve two for a meal , let alone an appetizer. Even with sharing part of it, I didn't finish and was still full. Both my kid and spouse got the kabob platter (one with shrimp and beef, one with chicken and beef) and they were both happy. The service was lovely and the food came out pretty quick. Truly Greek has been my favorite Greek restaurant for a very long time. We got takeout tonight and as soon as I saw it I knew something wasn't right. The gyro meat, for starters, looks like something out of the Publix freezer section. The Greek salad dressing tastes like straight oil and the olives had pits in them. I immediately came to yelp and saw it's under new ownership and am not mourning the loss of what was once so great. Truly Greek has been a staple of my family and friends for what must be over a decade by this point, through multiple management changes and economic shifts. This has long been one of our top picks, and it's an absolute tragedy to see the latest owner(s) cut so many corners while leaving prices as high as they are. Today's $55 affair was by far the most alarming experience we've ever had at this establishment. It wasn't a strong start to learn that the shawarma, a popular listing on the menu for as long as the restaurant has been around as far as I can tell, was no longer available. Certainly this did not bode well for my interest in returning even if the rest of the family seemed happy. What was actually purchased and brought to the dinner table was completely unacceptable. The dolmas were barely stuffed with anything and the rice tasted hard like it hadn't been cooked enough. The tzatziki, which tragically went from Greek yogurt to sour cream with the previous owner shift, now seems to be more akin to mayonnaise and was completely devoid of any dill or seasoning and was tasteless, yet they still call it tzatziki and charge similarly. The greatest sin, however, was what they'd done with the gyro meat, the spit-cooked, hand-shaved combination of beef and lamb that stands as the centerpiece to any respectable Greek establishment. That has been replaced with what I can only think to describe as "Greek Steak'ums", paper thin, uniformly sliced and perfectly rounded at the edges tasteless meat strips. I am no chef, but I have worked in the food industry long enough to know that this is an "out of a box" machine-sliced premade ingredient rather than something cooked in store. And yet they still have the audacity to charge $6 for a side of these that barely come to half the total weight of the gyro meat which used to occupy the same box at the same price. The only parts of the meal my family and I could not deduce what corners had been cut to save money were the Greek salad and the pita bread, though I personally felt the bread had a noticeably "last week's" texture to it. I have no intention of ever returning to this restaurant, and after that sorry showing, neither does my family. I have every intention of informing my local friends of how this restaurant has fallen from grace, and I cannot in good faith recommend this dining establishment to ANYONE, local or visiting, in the Brandon-Valrico area. read more

I was pretty impressed with my gyro from Truly Greek. The lamb was perfectly seasoned, you could eat it on its own. The portion size was generous. I also ordered a side order of fries which were shoe string in shape and very well seasoned too. My only complaint was the lack of tomatoes in the wrap, very sparse. This may be the saddest review I have written. Truly Greek was one of absolute favorite places in Tampa. It had been two months since we were last there so my wife and I went there for dinner tonight. I was saddened to learn the business had been sold 3 weeks ago. I loved the old owners. They did such a wonderful job and you truly felt like a guest. Their beef shawarma wrap was my go to meal in Florida. There was nothing I didn't love about Truly Greek except they served Pepsi. So, I was a bit apprehensive when I learned of the change. Overall, I will say Truly Greek is still good. The beef shawarma was slightly, I don't think the spices blended quite as well. The tahini was almost mayonnaise thick, so it didn't pour as well into the wrap. The wrapped uses to be cut in half and had more meat with a bit better flavor. When mixed with the tahini, it was life changing. This was not that. The caesar salad was actually very good and I really like the dressing, which seemed to be new. My wife's greek salad looked as good as ever. The service was fine, but not quite as attentive or as welcoming as before. This is to be expected since the owners were the ones who worked the restaurant previously. Will I eat there again, probably, but the shawarma has changed and that breaks my heart. It was 3.5 stars tonight, but I gave it 4 stars because the owners are new. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Truly Greek for several years now, even through two ownership changes, and it's always been a place I could count on for great quality and taste. However, after the recent ownership change (the third, unfortunately), I can confidently say I won't be returning. First off, the entire menu had changed. Not only were the prices significantly higher, but the quality of the food took a serious nosedive. My fiancé ordered the chicken shawarma, which tasted more like the ultra-processed, rubbery chicken you get at a bad Chinese restaurant, and the fries were stale. I went with the gyro platter, which was a complete disappointment: the meat was chopped into tiny pieces, super greasy, and the portion was so small that it didn't feel worth the price. To make matters worse, the rice was drenched in oil, making it almost inedible. The service wasn't much better. There were only two waitresses running around trying to handle everything, while the owner stood around doing nothing. When we expressed how unhappy we were with the food, the waitress said she'd speak to the owner to see what could be done. I actually saw her speak to him, and he chuckled and walked away without offering any kind of apology or solution. He didn't come over once to address our concerns, nor did he seem to care that we were dissatisfied. To top it off, I got extremely sick after eating the food, which was the final straw. Between the terrible food, high prices, and zero customer service, I won't be returning again. It's such a shame to see what was once a great place go downhill like this. read more

I was concerned from the moment I walked in to find an empty restaurant at noon. I ordered the gyro plate to-go and paid for extra tzatziki sauce. I arrived home to a plate of dried out strips/chunks of lamb (I hope). The meat had definitely been reheated more than once and I've never in my years of eating gyros not seen a gyro sold without the meat shaved from a spit. I also did not get the extra tzatziki that I paid for. This disappointing meal was $20 before tax. I understand why the place is empty and I won't be back. read more

recently visited Truly Greek Restaurant in Brandon, FL, and was extremely disappointed with the experience under the new ownership. The chicken and kofta were not only lacking in flavor and quality but the portion sizes were noticeably smaller than before. When I spoke to the new owner about why the portions were substantially reduced compared to the past, his response was shocking. He claimed that they had "carefully studied and analyzed the menu" and believed it was "priced correctly." When I asked if he cared about what his customers thought regarding the quality and quantity, he blatantly said he did not care about customer opinions. Such an attitude is unacceptable in the restaurant business. Truly Greek has lost the charm and customer-centric approach it once had under the previous owners, and I won't be returning. read more

While it isn't exactly better than our fave place, it did not disappoint in the least. The restaurant was very clean and comfortable. Service was excellent and the food was really good. We had Hummus as an appetizer and the pita was very nice and fluffy. For our meals, I had a Chicken Shawarma wrap and my daughter had the Lamb & beef Gyro and we shared an order of Greek fries. Everything was seasoned very well and the portions were big. We both had leftovers but not because we didn't enjoy the food. (We both took them home and had them for dinner). I was looking for a restaurant to order takeout from for the Yelp's Big Night In event and I can always trust my Yelp friend Karen V's reviews and I love Greek food so I figured this would be a win all the way around. I ordered through the Yelp app. I figured that was also a safe bet since everyone is ordering take out due to what is currently going on in the world. Compared to other times that I've ordered through the app, the wait time was very minimal and my order was ready in about 20 minutes. The restaurant is actually small inside and meagerly decorated. What added to the look of emptiness is that they had booths taped off for no seating due to capacity regulations for restaurants during Phase II of Florida reopening during the coronavirus pandemic. So there were maybe 6-8 people total in the restaurant. The food I ordered was actually ready and the exchange went off without a hitch. I ordered feta cheese with cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and onions. I was thinking there would be a little more to this but it was exactly what the menu said. I would say it would be more appropriate to top a salad with the items mixed together but you can always eat it just as it is if you really like feta on pita. I could smell the Greek Fries in the car as I drove home, so I knew I wanted to sacrifice them to my stomach first when I got home. Perfectly seasoned fries with feta that was also seasoned and a little sauce that seemed to be based with ketchup. They were so good and a perfect appetizer. I also ordered falafel which came with pita and a different sauce which I think is tzatziki. The falafel pieces were perfectly cooked and strong in flavor. I made little pita sandwiches with them topped with the feta cheese mixture and that was amazing. I was going to order the Greek salad but Greek salads traditionally don't have lettuce in them from what I understand. Regardless, I will definitely eat here again when things are "back to normal". I will also order through the app again as it was easy and timely. The food was great with no complaints and they had many vegetarian options, as to be expected. read more
