I took my son to this taco shop earlier this week. He had an al pastor and a short rib taco. I had the surf n turf, al pastor, and chicken tacos. The Al Pastor - the pork was finely minced and over sauced. I don't think the diced raw pineapple was the right acid for the meat. Not because of flavor but because of texture. Sautéed would have been better. Chicken taco - the chicken was also finely minced and over sauced. The sauce was also very watery. It seemed like they overcooked the chicken and dried it out too much but didn't want to waste it so it sat in a hot well in a sauce bath in an attempt to repair the dryness. It didn't work. Surf n turf - the shrimp were delicious and well prepared. The beef portion was not nearly as well prepared. It looked steamed and was well done with no noticeable seasoning. There was a cream sauce on this taco that was tasty but overpowered all the other flavors. Beef short rib - for those of you familiar with short rib meat, it's very robust in flavor and if cooked right, very tender. This was the best taco of the four. The flavor was rich and earthy, and the pickled red onion was a great addition that added some brightness to this taco. I would've liked to see a little more sweetness added either in a sauce or topping. Overall I felt that tacos were fairly average. The salsa is nothing to right home about either-especially considering you have to pay for chips and salsa. read more

I had really high hopes for truk't. I'm giving two stars - one for the awesome atmosphere. The decor and woodwork are spot on. Love the vibes. Second star is for management really trying to rectify the situation. There was a major delay in receiving our 3 tacos. She was on top of it the minute we said something, apologized profusely, and our food was eventually brought out. Unfortunately, the tacos weren't worth the wait. They were flavorless. What a cool experience this place was.... The place has an awesome vibe to it with their ability to open up all the garage doors and let in all the fresh air. The food was spectacular. I truly enjoyed the Peking Duck tacos and the Korean BBQ tacos. My wife's favorites were the Short Rib and the Chicken Tinga. The presentation of the food was beautiful. We had the awesome Pearl Onions for an appitizer. I recommend them. Service was great, atmosphere was clean, and the amounts of whiskeys and tequilas they have was impressive. One of the best cocktail bars I've been to. I tried a few drinks, starting with an Old Fashioned and then ending with the Couple, Two, Three. The Old Fashioned was great, with good notes of bitters and a nice balance of sweetness and bourbon. The absolute highlight was the Couple, Two, Three though. It's almost as enjoyable to watch them make the drink as it is to sip it: it starts with a metal tray of wood chips that are blow torched and then smothered with an inverted rocks glass. The smoke from this smothered pile of chips fills the glass, which is then quickly inverted, filled with a spherical ice cube, and filled with the libation. The drink captures the smoke and incorporates it into the flavor, making it absolutely spectacular. The drink itself is similar to a Manhattan, but the flavors were so much more deliberate and distinct. I loved the atmosphere of the place as well. The perimeter of the establishment is surrounded by operable garage doors, so during the summer they can open them and let the outside air sweep through the seating area and bar. I'm excited to go back during the warmer months to see what it's like. Being from Milwaukee it's a short drive, and it is well worth the hike! Try it out! read more

As a Beloit native, I can't tell you how happy I was to hear about the restaurant boom happening downtown. It's been needed for a LONG time. Over the holidays my family decided try out Truk't because who doesn't like a good street taco. I really like the atmosphere and the decor. There was definitely an effort to respect the historical integrity of the building with some added modern touches. I've been to several street taco restaurant all over the country and I wanted to see how this stood up to the rest of them. We ordered chips and salsa and queso fundido. The chips appeared to be greasy, but they didn't taste greasy. They could have used a tad more salt and maybe some lime flavor. The salsa had a good smoky flavor and the queso fundido was pretty good. I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese combination but that's just a personal preference. We ordered the chicken tinga taco (our favorite of the bunch), the fish taco, the Korean bbq, the short rib, and the al pastor. All of the tacos had some good heat, so be wary if you are not a fan of spice. None of the tacos really blew us away though. They were good but not great. The only complaint was that the short ribs were a little too fatty, but considering that it's a short rib that's completely understandable. Overall it was cool. I would continue working on on the menu to keep things fresh and exciting. read more

I gave it a 1star because no stars wasn't an option. We went on a Wednesday night got there at 7:30 ordered appetizer and drinks went through 3 orders of chips before we got some that weren' t stale. Then over an hour later the waitress asked if we wanted dessert but we haven't gotten our food yet, 10 minutes later our food arrived. The food had obviously been sitting tacos were cold and shells were mushy but it was late and we already felt like assholes cause of the chips . I can't even remember which tacos I ordered but one tasted so bad it wasn't edible. The waitress took off the appetizer my meal and a few beers which helps but I'll never go back myself. read more

This is a cool little place in downtown Beloit. I'm the nice weather, they open the big doors on the sides and make it an open air restaurant. The menu is similar to a street taco menu. They have pitchers of sangria with fresh fruit that taste great. I think the Brussels are awesome! Definitely worth checking out. read more

Tried this place for the first time today. The ambience is nice. My friend and I enjoyed the open air feel of the restaurant. Drinks were good, but the food was just okay. I ordered the Korean bbq tacos and can't say I was impressed. The meat was full of gristle, and the sauce tasted like something pre made from a grocery store. My friend didn't care for her tacos either. Also, our service was not that great. I think if I ever came back, I'd try it in the evening for the ambience, drinks and dessert. See the menu for ideas of unique items. They do not have a very big menu. The chips were so-so ( I love good salsa & chips). Salsa had a snap I liked. The Queso Fundido was excellent & addictive! I wanted so bad for this place to give me a reason to recommend it to friends. I love Beloit, and I want this place and others here to win, but wins needs to be earned. Great atmosphere and design, friendly staff, nice bar selection. The tacos, however, are just ok. They're not bad by any means, but they're priced at the high end of what you'd pay for fusion tacos in any city and you just don't get what you pay for. Either lower the price to meet the quality or raise the quality to meet the price, and you'll have me back as a customer...and my friends to boot. read more

Truk't street tacos struck me more as fusion tacos. Ambiance was great, I really liked how the place looked. Got in during a slow time and was seated right away. Food menu small, whiskey/tequila selection huge, beer selection small. Waitress took out drunk order, which was a simple beer and soda/alcohol. 10 minutes later she showed up with the drinks. It appeared that either a:bartender went missing or b:they waited until 4 other tables had drink orders because they brought out 3 other tables with ours. Got the quest fundito, which amounted to hard cheese melted into a small iron type skillet. Not generally what comes to mind when you order quest. Most of us know that hard cheese melted=oil. So ended up with some oily cheese. Tasted fine though. Taco...we ok. I'd been dying to try the place out so maybe I oversold myself. They were good, but nothing I'd drive a half hour for again. The bill...whew...that soda/alcohol, which was soda with 2oz of Crown Royal, $9.00. Sorry truk't dude, but thats overpriced. Pacifico beer, 5 bucks...still a bit pricey for a low end import. I've been dying to try this place, it's new, it's downtown Beloit, and they serve tacos and tequila? What's not to love. We came on a Saturday night, luckily there was no wait for us and we get seated immediately or else I'm not sure where we would have waited since there no room in the entry way. They had the Duke game playing which was amazing, the decor was super cute, old fashion, rustic vibes. The food menu seemed very small for such a large looking menu. I ordered the Sotol Me About It tequila speciality cocktail. I was going to order Mezcaloma but the waitress Kailyn warned me it was a very smoky dry taste, when actually the Sotol Me About It tasted like the inside of a BBQ smoker and it was 10$. For our appetizer we tried the Queso Fundido, it was not what is had expected, at all. It came out in a typical cast iron skillet sitting in a bed of oil topped with some roasted peppers and served with fresh homemade tortillas, you could add Chicken, chorizo, or shrimp. I wasn't wild about it. It was extremely greasy and lacked flavor and honestly i would much rather get chips with queso in place of the tortillas. For my main I tried the Korean BBQ taco and the Shrimp Curry taco, i like spice so the waitress said these two wouldn't disappoint. They came out and they looked gorgeous! Loved the meat on the Korean bbq one and the flavors were amazing. The shrimp one was a little flavorless, it was topped with this slaw that tasted bland and took away from the actual taco, and for a taco for 4.5 dollars you only get two shrimp seems a little steep. Everything on the menu is al la carte. Our service was okay, the place was packed and there was tons of people waiting around the bar for a table, great for large groups, people who want to drink, eat and watch a game, family dinner, or date night. The parking situation is a little chaotic on the weekends since there's so many restaurants in this area, there is however a parking lot behind it that usually will have available parking for free. read more

truk't seemed like a super fun place to stop and have a snack or dinner. Such an up and coming street of fun food restaurants. The place was filled on a Saturday night. Its was super cute, with garage doors all around the restaurant that probably open in the summer. We sat near the bar and could tell the bartenders really took their job seriously. It's definitely pretty pricey, $4 tiny tacos over filled with a couple bite sized pieces of protein, various slaws and sauces. When did tacos become so expensive? The drinks are expensive, unusual, but tasty. Service was on the slow side. Had to ask for water. Pass on the queso fundido...super greasy melted cheese served with a couple of handmade corn tortillas. I had the fish taco and the shrimp po-boy taco. I'm not a fan of plain uncooked corn tortillas...they have so much more flavor when cooked. For me it's a one and done. read more

Wish I could do 3.5 stars. Here's what I like: two large TVs which are set on the game. Garage doors which open during nice weather. Here's what's not great: no beer on tap... Given that, I had the mezcaloma - sort of the a smokey Paloma. I should have paid attention as I don't much care for the smokey flavor especially not in my drink. No worries though. We ordered nachos with added shrimp, Brussel sprout taco and duck taco. Duck was excellent...Brussel sprout not so much ( I think the Brussel sprouts tasted steamed rather than roasted). :( In my 6 years in Beloit, I've never had worse tasting food. Chips and guac- chips tasted like pork fat,which i guess isn't bad.The guacamole did not need mango habanero sauce on top, but it needed to taste like something. Very bland-maybe lacking red onions, cilantro, salt and maybe lime juice. Brussels sprouts- extremely oily. Pearl onion-only item on the menu that is on par. Fish taco- toppings tasted like puke, fish was 2/10. Pork belly breakfast taco- had a poached egg on it, but it was more like a hard-boiled egg. The pork 'belly' was the leanest I've ever had (this is not a good thing). Peking duck taco-the skin was not at all crispy like peking duck should be. Very much worthless. Pastor taco-was like chewing an old kitchen washcloth. Korean bbq taco-extremely greasy and overall bad flavor. Definitely can't credit this to Korean people. Suggestion: hire a Mexican cook. The food was adequate for the price paid. But the FLIES! There were so many flies everywhere in the restaurant. I understand that it's an open air space but there should really be something in place so you don't have to continually swat flies from your food. It is very unappealing and unsanitary. The service was lacking because she was busy talking to her friends who came by. We had to ask multiple times for a refill of water. Unfortunately, the service and the flies will be the reasons we won't make them a stop in our next trip. read more

I had two tacos for lunch. The first taco was the Peking duck the second taco was the Baja fish tacos. The total cost including Ice-T was $13. While the tacos were good, they are small. The cost of a single taco is five dollars apiece. The service was good and the place was clean. This place is interesting since one is sitting outdoors in a covered area. Five stars for the drinks and zero stars for the food. We started with the Stuffed Jalapeños and let me tell you, that was not a great start. Jalapeños were undercooked, it was in a bath of grease, zero flavor. Had to ask for salt just to get some flavor in there. Main course for me was the Peking Duck, Al Pastor, and Korean BBQ. The Protein was cold, tortilla was cold and hard around the edges; again, zero flavor. Sent them back and refused to get any other food. Let's face it, nothing was going to change from this point. The drinks on the other hand, spot on! So good and a great selection. Bottom line, Diane needs to take a hard look at this place and work on the food.
