Love the food here, you can tell this is true authetic Mexican food. The pozole I had reminded me of what my mom would make me when I was sick, which for a meal at an establishment to make you feel is simply amazing. HOWEVER, I can only grant 3 stars because the service we received was not that great...at all. The food came out fast which was great, but besides taking our order and giving us our plates, the waitress never came back to check on us. Didn't check to see if we needed more drinks, we actually had to go up the counter and ask someone for take home containers and the check because after about 10 to 15 minutes of waiting for the check, we knew no one would come to check on our table. We may come back, but there's alot of other Mexican food places that have way better service. read more

Was served a Margarita in a broken glass so I let the waitress know that the glass I was given was chipped and I did not want to drink out of it due to not knowing I'd there would be glass in the drink or not so the waitress took the glass and turned around and poured the same drink into a new cup and re served the drink to me while I'm watching her as soon as she came back to hand it to me I asked her is that a new margarita that was just made and she no she had just poured the old drink in a new cup so again I tried to explain her that I want a new glass that is not broken and a new drink made in it after that she finally came back with it the right way so that was the first problem and the 2nd problem is the tortillas were cold when served and were soggy from being warmed up in the microwave instead of on top of the stove read more

This is some of the most authentic Mexican food in the Midwest. The prices are cheap, the dishes are very large, and the owner is very nice. I love coming here for their shrimp enchiladas, fish tacos, and chile rellenos. My boyfriend loves their lengua tacos and carne asada. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Beloit and I'm so glad I found this place! All of my friends that I've taken here love it and they have recommended it to their families and friends. It is pretty vegetarian friendly too which is a big plus! Can't get better food than this! read more

#1 Windows and door handles are filthy. This should've been the the decision maker but the wife really wanted comida mexicana. #2 Tile floor felt greasy and looked dirty. #3 Waitress was a snotty little thing who's answer to my innocent question was eye rolling and loud sighs. The effin toilet had overflowed so there was piss and shit everywhere! no paper towel no sign of tp no soap for christ sakes! then a young man from the kitchen came in, took a look at the toilet, laughed aloud and walked out. This dump is a death trap waiting to happen! left the men's room, put my jacket on and calmly told my wife and kids to get up because we are leaving. This is the real deal, so much so that my wife wanted me to step in and scout out the place beforehand! We spent several years in Corpus Christi, TX, and we both know that we got spoiled there when it comes to Mexican food. We've found good places since then, but Taqueria Azteca is in another category of good. The menu features breakfast and lunch items as well as dinner items. The house specialties are a little more expensive, as you would expect, but definitely worth the money you pay. The menu also includes a very good variety of items, from typical dishes like tacos and tostadas to somewhat harder to find dishes like bistec ranchero (Ranch-style beef) and pollo en mole (Chicken in mole sauce), to neat surprises, like BBQ ribs. They boast a good range of seafood; we didn't try those dishes. Two things I especially appreciated seeing available were a good offering of soups and tortas (Latin American sandwiches). They also offer a good range of Mexican soft drinks, including Mexican Coca Cola. The staff is bilingual; we had no problems ordering. Seating is a bit limited; 40 people would probably fill the place to capacity, but getting seated was not a problem when we had dinner there. If you are hungry for some really great Mexican food that would compare favorably to some of the best places in Texas (no mean feat!), Taqueria Azteca won't disappoint. read more

I drive from Madison to come and get the tamales, they offer chicken tamales and in Madison most places only have tamales know certain days and then they get sold of quickly! This used to be my favorite place. I had never had a bad meal there until tonight. I can see one or maybe two components of the meal being off. It happens. But EVERYTHING was bad. * Steak in the tacos was so overcooked it was barely chewable. * The only non-crunchy parts were the huge hunks of fat in them. * Tortillas barely cooked at all and difficult to chew * Beans had an off taste to them like they had been sitting around for too long. * Rice had zero flavor and not cooked enough. PLUS, the prices from the last time I was there several weeks ago went up a total of $6 more for the entire meal. I don't think this is worth the drive down from Janesville anymore. read more
