What a special place... the ambiance is so wonderful here, I want to come back again and again! We visited on an early evening as the sun was coming into the old house just perfectly and the leaves were falling outside. There is ample parking and a sweet park right outside (and the homes in the surrounding blocks are just beautiful, would be a great spot for a walk after getting coffee!) The inside is artsy which I loved. There are banding lanterns and stars and little painted details everywhere. Some m if it find it cluttered but it was perfect to me- reminded me of a college town hangout! It would be the perfect backdrop to a coffee date or heart to heart- cozy, refreshing, and peaceful. My husband ordered a strawberry smoothie and I ordered a London fog- both were quite sweet but enjoyable. One thing that piqued my interest was the flavor combos you could add to a latte- the True West, for example had fig and vanilla which sounded interesting! It was too late in the day for a latte for me but I would try that next time. The prices were also great- both of our drinks totaled around $7! The price of one drink at another shop. We sat upstairs- beautiful art on the walls, good views, and plenty of seating. There are 2 easily accessible and clean private bathrooms and a meeting room that it looks like you can reserve. Placed a pickup order that was prepaid and walked into a line. Politely asked a worker if she could grab it and was snapped at with an extremely rude tone. While this place is peaceful and cute, the service was not the greatest, and the skill when making espresso based drinks was less than exceptional. The barista did not tamp the grounds in the portafilter causing a very loose and quick extraction of the espresso greatly reducing flavor profile. While frothing the milk, the barista did not allow enough air into the pitcher allowing for a consistent texture and consistency for a latte, and also admitting that they don't know how to do that. Although not required, the barista working at a gourmet coffee shop, had no ability to create latte art when pouring the milk. There seemed to be a lack of skill and understanding of what goes into a gourmet coffee shop. read more

They also do a drink punch card where you get a free drink after so many purchases so be sure to grab one. Also love the space. Cozy with two floors to suit your mood. They also have a drive-thru which is accessible via the alley. They have food too, which you can't order via the drive-thru but can online to have ready for pickup. Food is ok, I prefer getting any sandwich on a bagel otherwise it's panini pressed (even the burrito), but I don't judge coffee shops on food. The egg, cheese, and bacon is probably the safest bet. They also have baked goods. My husband had the Nutty Irishman and it was one of the best Irish lattes we've had, it had a creamy/nutty/stout taste to it. Yum! It's a bit crowded near the counter/order area (the cafe is in an older home converted to cafe). The Breakfast Burrito just sounded good, so I ordered one for a little brunch snack. This was a good sized burrito, more of a meal than a snack. It was grilled and filled with egg, avocado and tomato. The atmosphere is charming and set in a historic house in downtown Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton sets the theme, he's on the logo and you can even find a huge mural of him on a building neighboring the cafe. A nice patio in the back has seating and another mural. I loved the bars in front of the windows. They're made of doors. The stools are comfy, unlike those awkward stools everyone is getting these days. These are the perfect people watching seats. The ceilings are huge, probably due to the fact that this is an older building. There are food options although, we went just for the coffee. Desserts looked pretty good though. They play lots of hipster alternative and no bro country shit. I had a True West Latte and the Hippie sandwich. The latte is about $3.50 for a medium. It's made with figs. This gives it a sweetness. Be sure to get something to eat. The sandwich is made with avocado and hummus. It only sucks because of the parking. It has a few tables inside. The coffee was wonderful and this shop had inventive flavor combinations. I decided on the Big Papi latte (cinnamon, brown sugar, and molasses). It was subtle and not sugary sweet, which was a wonderful combination. But I was torn between the Big Papi Latte and the True West Latte (fig, vanilla, and black pepper). I will for sure try that one next time. We also ordered a cranberry, orange scone and a coffee cake muffin that were sinfully sweet. This is a fantastic gem of a coffee shop! I grew up in Hamilton, Ohio and if this place had been here when I was in grad school, I might have never moved away! True West Coffee is a gem! I had some time to kill last time I was in town and I was driving around in the old stomping grounds and saw this coffee shop. What stood out to me at first was that it has a drive-thru! It's so rare that you find a non-chain coffee shop that has a drive-thru. I was already impressed so I decided to pull over and go check out the inside. I parked at the little park right next door to the coffee shop and I headed inside. The building is an old Victorian-style house converted into a coffee shop. It is beautiful! There are so many cozy nooks throughout and plenty of nice seating so that you can study, catch up with a friend, or, like me, read the Sunday paper. The menu was expansive and offered a lot of different options and there were several friendly faces behind the counter waiting to take my order. I ended up getting a cup of their house coffee and one of their chocolate-chip muffins. I then headed upstairs to one of their coffee spaces. Once upstairs, I noticed that they had a little meeting room that could be reserved which I thought was super cool. If I was still a local, I could totally envision myself hosting book clubs in there! They also had a cute bathroom that was conveniently located near the upstairs coffee lounge. I ended up parking in an old vintage chair in the corner where I was able to get some direct sunlight from a window overlooking downtown Hamilton. I also noticed that they had a little cart with board games on it and the clientele ranged from college students prepping for finals to families eating breakfast and playing games with their kids to people like me who came for a quiet place to enjoy a relaxing morning. The muffin that I had was super tasty and the coffee was really good as well. They both came at a great low price and I was sad when it came time for me to leave as I could have spent all day there.
