    Chopped brisket sandwich
    Kristen A.

Quick bite after shopping at H E B Order: 3 chopped brisket sandwiches. They were good, a little spice to them. I was starving after coming from the airport, and this was my first and only meal of the day. I gave 3 stars because the food tasted good, although my stomach was ANGRY AF the next day. I'm pretty sure I was food poisoned. I'm only in Texas every other year so I don't think this will be a spot that I revisit.

    Smells terrible.

You have been warned... It's cold drizzly day - he wanted bbq. Apparently 4 slices of "not so lean" brisket is a half a pound..$11 You didn't read that wrong- 1.2.3.4 slices with fat on the lean ordered meat $11 Small side Potato salad looked green.... One taste told me it was bad. OLD. Immediately trashed. Mac n chz ... dry. See pix. Beans........ can you say congealed?!? Smells terrible- See pix Disgusting I'll never pay to eat there again. Having a cup of ramen ...that's how bad.

The misnamed Nashville Hot Smoked Turkey Sandwich
    Jordana G.

As unbelievable as it sounds, the BBQ restaurant at HEB, smoked fresh in house daily, is terrific. It's a standalone restaurant inside the store that has tables or take out (order at the counter or via the BBQ app). The sit down area is cute, looks just like a typical BBQ restaurant (windmills and all), and they have Texas beers on draft and in bottles. I ordered the monthly special, the Nashville Hot Smoked Turkey Sandwich. While it had literally nothing in common with Nashville or their famous Hot chicken, it did sport a firey BBQ sauce, sliced pickles, a special vinegar based crunchy slaw and a ginormous pile of beautiful, moist, smoked turkey on a toasted bun. Talk about a great sandwich. I could only eat half. For a side I had the creamed corn, which was studded with charred corn for some extra smoky flavor. I washed everything down with a cold draft pint of St. Arnold's Lawnmower. If only grocery shopping was always be this enjoyable.

Love going here on Tuesday nights for trivia. Bbq is always great. $2 off draft beer.

Best Banana Pudding ever! I was so happy to give this a try and had great customer service as always!!

    Fried okra, Mac and cheese

Out of fries... Out of ranch... Kinda don't understand that as they are located literally inside an HEB. Refried, yet cold and greasy, too salty fried okra... Mac and cheese gelatinous cold yuck... One redeeming part of the meal was the Cole slaw.. All in all pretty gross meal..really sucks all the BBQ places are closed on Sundays.

At the cutting board, you will make your way down to the self serving beans and several other sides and toppings! You pay and fill your soda of choice. You can make your way to the right entry and there is several seating options inside. Or make your way outside where you see where the delicious meat is smoked. The meat is so tender and made with so much love it is the best comfort food. The potato salad is top tier I recommend 100%

Where to begin? None of the meats are seasoned well and they lacked the smoky flavor promised by the stacks of wood outside. I asked if the sides were made in house and was assured they are. The potato salad is, for sure, out of a carton - both the potato texture and flavor made me think of prepared grocery store quality. The cole slaw was fresh, but had no flavor. I had to heavily salt and pepper everything to eat it. Even the beans were straight out of a can. Unfortunately, their homemade sauce didn't make any of it more palatable. It's thin in texture and flavor. Little to no sugar, no cayenne for heat, no vinegar to balance. Just a red sauce that didn't taste anything akin to barbecue sauce. Unfortunately, this was our one chance to try the famous Texas BBQ and my only hope is that it's not indicative of all Texas BBQ.

The hotel I'm staying at has a breakfast buffet that's number 2 on the list. I can't tell you how wrong Yelp actually is on a recent Sunday. I put my big boy Wranglers on and headed off to sway the internet into a different direction. I've had plenty of Bourdain moments in my life. Eat local, get the cream sauce (no actual cream sauce exists here). Have a drink in a empty bar (they don't serve alcohol). Sent the GF in to secure a table while I found a parking space (PACKED LOT). Once seated in a two top service was pleasant but there were a few flaws. Like, toast without jelly offered. Don't think I've ever seen anyone dip white bread into refried beans as an alternative. I opted for Migas sorta based on our servers recommendation. I mean, they offer Eggs Sardou. And, brisket, Tex-Mex staples, biscuits, and homemade Blue Corn Tortillas??? Plus, sauce game off the charts with unbelievable red and green salsas. Ok, enough teasing here's the deets. My Migas were interesting but missed the advertised Chorizo as the menu described. Also, interesting that they top the dish with an enchilada sauce. GF chose the Brisket omelette with eggs and cheese mixture. Happy girl minus the lack of jelly offered. And this is where it got real. We sat next to many local families; discussing city issues (Ingram proper) which we overheard. Single men dining all the way to just couples like us. We finally threw in the napkins and headed to the counter to pay only to learn that someone had already paid our bill. This IS the restaurant you need to visit!

Anyway, it was a glorious day after 3 days of good soaking rain, which we badly needed in the hill country. The food has always been top notch grade here. The service is very efficient and professional. As for the ambience, the inside is bright and well lighted but to be impressed, you have to go outside. Since it was a glorious day of bright sunshine, coolish temperature and a very friendly breeze blowing, we had a time walking around the area. The surrounding area was lush and very green after the few days of rain! We had a lovely time taking pictures. My brother in law was very surprised about the camel story behind Camp Verde. Camels were used as experimental animals to carry provisions in the 1850's. They were stationed in this area. Unfortunately, the experiment failed because the soldiers hated the camels, who had a reportedly nasty disposition and soldiers ended up with motion sickness because of the animal's unusual walking gait.
