Picked up some brisket on my way out of HEB. Not the best brisket I've ever had but this was definitely tasty. We purchased two pounds of the lean and that was a good couple of meals for the two of us. It is a bit salty, and more than a bit pricey which is why I docked it a Star. That said, they gave free wonder bread slices, pickles, onions and two different bbq sauces. This place is nothing short of 5 *. The brisket is just about the best it can be. I opted for a plate of just sliced brisket from the point. That's my favorite cut of meat. It definitely didn't disappoint. The cashier was very friendly and efficient. She explained a little about the brisket they make and helped with getting the other. I was so impressed. I wish I could take some back with me on the airplane. The restaurant sits in a corner of the HEB grocery store. It's a perfect place to have it. Before or after shopping at HEB, you can park your cart and enjoy the peaceful aroma and relaxation of Texan BBQ. I really enjoyed my 2 meat plate that consisted of brisket and pulled pork, 2 sides of collard greens and cornbread. The kind lady at the register even threw in a nice serving of sausages. Quick bite after shopping at H E B Order: 3 chopped brisket sandwiches. They were good, a little spice to them. I was starving after coming from the airport, and this was my first and only meal of the day. I gave 3 stars because the food tasted good, although my stomach was ANGRY AF the next day. As unbelievable as it sounds, the BBQ restaurant at HEB, smoked fresh in house daily, is terrific. It's a standalone restaurant inside the store that has tables or take out (order at the counter or via the BBQ app). The sit down area is cute, looks just like a typical BBQ restaurant (windmills and all), and they have Texas beers on draft and in bottles. I ordered the monthly special, the Nashville Hot Smoked Turkey Sandwich. While it had literally nothing in common with Nashville or their famous Hot chicken, it did sport a firey BBQ sauce, sliced pickles, a special vinegar based crunchy slaw and a ginormous pile of beautiful, moist, smoked turkey on a toasted bun. Talk about a great sandwich. I could only eat half. For a side I had the creamed corn, which was studded with charred corn for some extra smoky flavor. I washed everything down with a cold draft pint of St. Arnold's Lawnmower. If only grocery shopping was always be this enjoyable. read more

The sliced brisket sandwich is a thing to go for. The brisket beans are good too. And very hot. I tried the sliced turkey once, but they don't have mayonnaise. The lady had to go outside to the H-E-B deli and bring back two packets of mayo. Why would you sell sliced turkey sandwiches and not have mayo? So it's back to the sliced brisket for me. The barbecue sauce you can put on is great too. I like that you can refill your own soft drinks also. read more

I have visited the true Texas BBQ location in Kerrville many times. Service has always been good. Prices have always been fair. Yes, there have been several times they are out of something, or the server might not know something, but the meats and sides have always tasted great. I highly recommend a meal here when you're in Kerrville. read more

I went in on Wenesday 3/6/2024. I wanted a 2 meat plate byt I asked the lady at the cash register if I could have regular brisket and a slice or two of the fatty brisket. I only got Brisket but she told me 2 different slices made it a 2 meat plate. I think that is wrong because it was all Brisket./ I wanted to order ribs as my 2nd meat but was told if I got ribs, that would be a 3 meat place. Quick and friendly service. Sliced brisket rates better than Rudy's and the chopped is on par. Reasonable prices for BBQ. Some of the better mac and cheese you can get dining out. Thick with a strong cheese flavor. Needs some salt to bring it out. If you frequent, be sure to get a mug. They are $5 with the first fill included then $1 after that. Not sure why you can't get HEB soda - I prefer the HEB diet soda over the diet or zero from the other guys. The Texas beers on tap is nice touch. Only complaint was the bathrooms - it looks like it hasn't been serviced in a while. Compared to the polish of the restaurant it really stood out. read more

Actual score: 1.5. No photos as this was a spur of the moment stop. I was out riding with a friend--who said, "You have friends?"--that's no way to talk to a senior citizen! As I was saying, my friend's grandson is in basic training with the Navy and he left his beloved truck in her care with instructions to drive it around town and on the highway. This thing's a monster that roars with glasspack mufflers and has huge tires. She's afraid to drive it, so I've been taking it out every few weeks--60 years melt away and I'm back crusin' the streets of San Antonio's West Side. (Yes, I actually did such things!) As we passed HEB, she wanted to try True Texas BBQ; against my better judgement, I pulled into the lot. Rule of thumb--when any business calls itself "True," it generally isn't. And that applies here. Always being one to try a variety of things, I ordered a three meat plate--fatty brisket, sausage and ribs (for $2 more) with sides of mac 'n' cheese and coleslaw. She had a pulled pork sandwich. First off, the service. Coby B. said it, "Slowest service in history!" Although there were two people taking orders, they seemed to be confused by the simplest things. Both order takers had only one person each when we arrived. It was 17 minutes before our orders were taken. Like many places, the process was simple: order, have a seat, wait to be called. After waiting 20 minutes and not being called, I went to the pick up station. I saw two trays, sitting on the counter--yep, they were ours and who knows how long they had sat there. Take a look at the photos posted by the business--moist, succulent brisket, ribs perfectly cooked, beautiful sausage links, hot, creamy mac 'n' cheese and perfectly made coleslaw. Yeah, well, the sausage was passable and the coleslaw was okay--just okay--and you can pick up a tub of it at any HEB. As for the rest, the brisket was scarcely fatty, was dry and improperly sliced (thick rather than thin); the ribs were the thinnest I've seen anywhere and it was difficult to see where the bone ended and the meat began--again dry; and the mac 'n' cheese was a congealed clump sitting in a Styrofoam cup. To make matters worse, everything was tepid at best. My friend's pulled pork sandwich was cold and so dry that not even a liberal dousing of sauce helped. I won't even talk about the sauce! If you want "true" Texas BBQ in Kerrville, go to Bill's or Buzzy's if Bill's is closed. HEB, I love to shop in your store but as for BBQ, leave it to the real pros. read more

True Texas flop. Portions and prices are good. Cornbread is gross and oily. Literally walk 20ft to their soup station in the grocery store to get their good cornbread instead. Mac and cheese is lukewarm, congealed, tasteless glob. Beans are basically soup. creamed corn is a smoky and bland mess of flavors, bordering on pudding. Watermelon = unripe cup of warm fruit salad. Insulting, considering they sell delicious watermelon 20ft away in their grocery store. sausage was sliced by a blind person. Impossible to eat with the hard casing when sliced poorly. Tasty otherwise when properly sliced. I like lean brisket. Theirs is decent. Chicken was passable. Ribs are ok, but not the meatiest. Flavor is there, and they werent dry. Their spicy sauce is tomatoe based and fairly decent. Their not spicy sauce is basically KC Masterpiece squeezed in a plastic ramakin. One thing I really enjoy is the potato salad. The pickles and onions are good...... Service is fine by me since I can avoid the line and order and pay on the app. Just walk in, and pick up. read more

This was good BBQ. They had a nice selection and the restaurant was quite and spread out. The overall experience was positive, they did not have their order through Yelp working correctly so we had to replace our order when we arrived but the service as quick and friendly. All of the meats were good and the beans and slaw were okay. The Mac and cheese was delicious. I will eat this BBQ again. read more

We eat here once a week before shopping for groceries. The staff is great but the food is disappointing. It could be really good but honestly I've never had a meal that was hot. I've worked in the food industry and food is supposed to be kept at at certain temp to prevent bacteria. Our food is barely and I mean very barely warm. All was good that i tried as others have said. But the mac and cheese was really "Tons of CHEESE and some mac". So much cheese sauce and very little mac included. Have tried it twice and it doesn't get any better so will skip that. Also as others have said, very slow service - 2 stations to take orders and even at lunch time, only one open - and then the wait.
