I love True Rest, a new small business in Albuquerque. I tend to be a human-doing, all the time, not a human-being. I needed something that would force stillness into my life. What is float therapy? Well, basically it's a big pod filled with 1,000 lbs of Epsom Salts and water, which creates a solution so buoyant, you float. I researched floatation therapy and found it's been around for a long time and it's great therapy for PTSD. I booked my first float last week. I know some people hate tight spaces, but it isn't really tight. Honestly, my first float was a little strange. My body wanted to fight the water, but it only took a few minutes to realize I could relax. My face didn't go under and I didn't sink. In fact -- I felt nothing. There was no pressure on any part of my body. The air and water are the same temperature, so I couldn't feel where the water ended and the air began. You have choices. You can leave the pod door open or closed. You can wear a bathing suit... or not. You can turn the light off or leave it on. It's a soft glow and you can change the color. I played with that for a full minute, click, blue, click, purple, click, red, click, green... and all over again. I absolutely had to push all the buttons, because by habit, I'm a human-doing. (Except for the big red button. Don't push that one! If you do, they will come running into your locked room.) Ultimately, I turned the light off. The first ten minutes I heard soothing music... and then it faded away, leaving me floating in absolute darkness, but it wasn't silent! I was super aware of my breathing. In and out. (How come I never noticed that my breathing sounds like a freight train?) Then I took a slow breath through my mouth. That felt softer, deeper, and more controlled. Once I silenced my breathing, I heard something else. Thump, thump, thump. My heart. I could hear and feel it all over my body. How often am I really aware that my heart pumps all day long? After a bit, even that went silent. And then it was really quiet. And really still. I mean really. At this point I was waiting for an out-of-body experience, or a non drug-induce hallucination, or for colors to float in front of my eyes. (I read this happens with some people because they reach a place of such peace.) I didn't, but it was still and quiet. So quiet, I heard and felt an itty bitty bubble climb up the side of my neck and pop against the surface of the water. A third interesting thing happened. I tend to have vertigo. When I was floating, if I barely moved, I had the sensation of being in a moving river. (I obviously wasn't or I would have hit the wall.) Just as I managed to completely still my thoughts and body, the music started to play softly. This is the ten minute cue that your time is up. I felt heavy moving again, but my skin felt incredibly soft! I was told that the water jets start automatically... I will say this about that, the water jets are very forceful, but you don't need to hightail it out of the pod like a crazy woman scrambling for dry land. (Like I did.) There's plenty of time to come back to the world. After my soak, I poured my body back into my clothes, opting NOT to take a shower. Don't do this! Even if it's a short ride home, when you look in the mirror, you realize you've become a salted pretzel. It's best to shower and rinse there. Lesson learned. Long story short, after that first float, never have I felt more relaxed. The feeling lasted all night. And never have I found such stillness, be it forced, within myself or within my surroundings. It's profound. This week I had my second float. Instantly, I made the pod dark, and instantly my body relaxed into the water. Again, it took a while for my brain to follow suit. Here's the funny thing, when my brain relaxed, it felt like I was drifting away from my body. HOWEVER, the very moment I realized I was having an UNUSUAL experience, I got so excited about it, it jarred me awake and I was right back in the pod. Thankfully, my first float hooked me and I became a member. This means I get monthly floats and member points for free floats. I'm hoping with my third float, my brain will catch up to my body. I'd like to float away for a bit. Either way, it's fun trying. Plus, I look thirty years younger! LOL. Just kidding, but my skin is softer. It's well worth trying. read more

I've been floating since 2010 after first trying out the float pods at the True Rest Scottsdale location. I must admit that it was after listening to the Joe Rogan podcast that had me seeking something like this out. After visiting a few locations, becoming a member, and having recently moved out to Albuquerque I was very pleased to find that there is a location here. My work as an audiovisual tech has a way of taking a serious toll on the body with climbing up through ceiling in commercial buildings, carrying large ladders up flights of stairs, mounting projectors, hanging speakers, drilling into walls and pulling cable to various locations. While floating at True Rest I notice the areas of the body that were worked the hardest during the week and I feel the euphoric relaxation after the float is finished. I began a meditation practice in 2009, and it has been something to practice everyday for up to an hour or so usually to bring peace and calm focus to the mind and body. With True Rest it feels like the ultimate savasana, and a wonderful way to find the quiet time to allow space and moving into the rest and digest parasympathetic nervous system, and a great escape from being on the go all the time!! I have recommended friends and brought several guests throughout the years, and usually with rave reviews! Hello, I am a regular floater and I love the Albuquerque True Rest Float Spa! It is always very clean and ready for meditation practice. I also am very pleased with all the staff and their kindness and relaxed environment. I floated recently and was brought out of my quiet comfort because there were loud voices. Yelling. First once, then again. This had not happened before and I was concerned there was an emergency of some type. Not getting a full ear of the first disruption I had to stop and pay close attention from inside the pod to discern what was afoot. After a few min I heard the staff member laugh and more laughter from the other guests, so I knew the commotion was not danger! I could have used the call button to confirm but the laughter disarmed me enough. It was a unnecessary disruption the staff was trying to calm the guests and fill their needs quietly. All I could make out was that it was okay- even with the loud voices going back and forth. Good news. Just a momentary breath and thanksgiving that there was not a fire or anyone disabled. I am sorry for David E. that he was left without a towel, there are stacks just outside the door in the hall. I hope he and his wife will experience the soak again. Only my second float and I feel changed!!! It's by far the most relaxing thing for anyone to do. Now, I confidently feel every adult ( or capable person ) should reap the benefits of sensory deprivation therapy. We all encounter SO MUCH NOISE every second of the day. Noise made by everyday electronics, the constant pings and dings of cellphones. Literally we are constantly stimulated in every aspect of our senses. The True REST Float Spa is giving us this gift of actually being able to shut out the ENTIRE world to quiet the mind, body and soul. There are so many benefits to this therapy. Initially I started to float to have less stress and panic attacks. I end up with incredible back pain relief, deeper more rested sleep and the ability to stress less. I am so grateful to have this be an option of a way to not only pamper but heal myself. The staff makes me feel right at home. So much so that after my float I VERY much enjoy their Oasis lounge with a cup of tea a comfy robe and a quiet read of a nice book before changing back into the real world. I had only read about sensory deprivation chambers and was anxious to try it for myself. My first time in I was nervous about getting into the pod but the staff showed a video that clearly explained how to safely get in and out and how to get the most out of the experience. The pod itself was amazing and very clean. I appreciated the privacy of the room. The float itself was amazing. I went in stressed from not being able to find a parking space (tip: get there early!) and a bunch of other things. After about 10 minutes I was in a different world. It was like stress just melted out of my body and I lost track of time in a good way. I've only experienced that before when I've done deep meditation. The staff, especially Maria, was super attentive and very patient with me even though I was late and frazzled coming in. They were just as attentive when I was done floating without being pushy or aggressive. I really appreciated sitting in the meditation room after the float. The experience was like taking a Xanax or something, it took me a minute to come back, LOL. I definitely will be back--I refer everyone I know to visit the spa. read more

I LOVE this place. I have never floated before coming here, and I have been FOUR times since they opened in late 2017. In general, I have a hard time with meditation but I do love massage. To me, this is a blend of the two: relaxation as well as helping with my muscle aches and tension. This place is super clean. I am completely comfortable with the lights off and closing the pod, but not everyone is. I have had 4 positives inside the float spa experiences of 4 times visiting. Two warnings: 1. Try to avoid around the noon hour since parking is difficult with all the restaurants around the area - and the diners taking up parking. My first time I drove around the parking lot three times before finding a space. Every other time I go by 11 am or after 1 pm and no problem. 2. Take advantage of the gel to cover cuts and be generous with it. I had a minor cut on my hand and used the petroleum jelly to cover it, but didn't use enough. It was irritated from the salt - so the next time I used nearly the whole packet to cover a cut on my leg and it was fine. read more

Amazing ,totally zen place. Everyday our nervous system is overloaded with so many messages from hectic environment we living in. We do not have enough rest to vent all those unwanted ones and they slowly but surely poisoning our body. Floating help to detoxify your body emotionally and physically, feeling fresh and renew. Helping even those who suffer with insomnia, anxiety, depression, and I can go on and on. But True Rest stuff also care deeply about their clients. I had knee injury and as soon owner Maria find out about it she treated me with Free floating sessions to speed up my recovery. I am forever a floater! I used to go up to Jemez once every couple months to soak to help alleviate pain in my joints and anxiety. What I felt in my body after 3 or 4 soaks in Jemez I get with just 1 float at True Rest plus much more with sensory deprivation, which I cannot get at the bath house in Jemez. The entire experience from the float to the tea afterwards in the oasis room is a piece of heaven on earth. I have never felt more rejuvenated and creative since floating regularly. I went to True Rest because my mental health was beginning to spiral downward. I needed some time to myself, to heal. I suffer from Misophonia, depression and Crohn's disease, and being in the pod floating on what felt like clouds in a silent room all to myself gave me back some sanity I thought I would never get back. It was an amazing experience all around. The woman at the front was so kind and helpful, and the spa looked gorgeous and clean and was very quiet. Heard about floating from friends and coworkers and I figured I should give it a shot. What an experience!! The spa was beautifully decorated, and they provided spa sandals, towels, and robes! They also had lemon water and herbal tea for after to relax in their comfy chairs, which really did help. My back had been hurting for quite some time now, and immediately after my back felt relaxed and the next day it felt even better! Can't wait to go back and make this monthly routine!
