I have been driving by the True Rest float spa on Pecan forever and have been meaning to check it out--after a recent car accident that left me with neck and back pain, I knew it was the perfect time to give it a try. I called on Thursday and was able to get an appointment the next morning! When I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly attendant who brought me a delicious hot tea and had me sign a few forms / watch a short video about the experience of using the float pods, which was super informative. After the video, she brought me into my own private room, which had a shower (you're required to use it before and after your float--shampoo, conditioner and body wash are all included), a bench with towels/ear plugs and the impressive float pod. She walked me through how to get in and out of it, mentioned that it's best to use the float pods without any clothing (she said wearing a bathing suit actually makes you cold) and showed me the buttons on the inside to control the lights, then she left me to do my thing! Floating was one of the most unique experiences I've had in a long time. It's only 10 inches of water, but with 1,000 pounds of epsom salt per pod, it's very different than getting in a bathtub. I opted to turn off the lights and was instantly mesmerized by the anti-gravity sensation of floating. I did bump into the walls quite a few times, but it was very gentle and not uncomfortable at all. 60 minutes seems like it's going to last forever, but it was honestly the perfect amount of time--I eased into a relaxed state after about 20 minutes, but by the 50-55 minute mark I had started to get a little restless again. I changed positions with my arms a few times which was helpful, and I didn't ever get the salt in my eyes like some other reviewers mentioned. I do wish I could have had the option of leaving the music on for the whole 60 minutes, because I knew I wasn't going to be able to fall asleep, and the music helped center me. Still, I remember being filled with positive and deep thoughts and was amazed by how peaceful I felt in there. Once my float time was finished, I showered off all the salt (you can literally feel it on your chest/belly), used some of the complimentary items in the "prep room" (q-tips, lotion, etc.) and headed back to the Oasis Room, where they offered free use of the Oxygen Bar for first time floaters. I didn't really feel anything when using the flavored oxygen, but it could be because I was already so relaxed and moved by the floating experience! All in all, great experience. I wish it wasn't so expensive, and I can see how it would be intriguing to get a monthly membership. May consider that one day! read more

I've wanted to try a float for years! My husband and I finally decided to try it recently but it didn't end up being the right thing for us. It's a bummer but now we know. The service was fantastic and it was interesting to try once. My husband really hated it and got out after a few minutes. I stayed in the whole time and tried really hard to enjoy it and let myself over to the experience but I also just couldn't enjoy it or get into it fully. I ca see how it would be great for some people, so at least go try it for yourself! read more

I've been thinking about trying this for a while now. It's super peaceful, clean and well maintained. I was immediately taken care of soon as I walked in. Everything is explained in detail what to do. Each room is cleaned and sanitized after each session. Very nice staff. The pod is big for the average height person, I'm not sure if the have a bigger one. I am guessing if you are over like... 6'5 you can't get in it with space. They also offer an oxygen bar. Have you tried float therapy before? I have been wanting to try this for some time now and glad I finally did ! When you arrive the staff ask if you would like tea or water & they Sit you down in separate room and have you watch a short video for close to 10 minutes! Once it's over you're escorted to a room with a float pod inside you will find an open shower and it's advised for you to shower before getting in and after the pod ! This was beyond relaxing I caught myself dozing off to sleep but my mind body n soul wouldn't let me go that deep into la la land lol ! I don't know if it's a mind thing or what but once I left the pain I was having in my white shoulder was non existent ! It's been proven to help alleviate muscle pain joints etc as one of the benefits !l One other thing I must mention is I deadly fell asleep this day too I woke up with all the lights on and don't even remember ever preparing for bed or anything so I'm convinced it helps with sleep ! My husband decided to give me some Mommy time and sent me to True Rest. The staff was welcoming and friendly (even when I got lost on the way! ) The facility is clean and inviting. After I checked in, I was directed to a room where I watched a welcome video. Pay attention! Emily, my consultant offered me water or hot tea. After the video, relaxing music plays, giving you an opportunity to get into the mood. Emily returned and took me to my room. The pod was bright and clean with a personal tray of your towel, washcloth, etc. She goes over the instructions again and then leaves you to it. The overhead shower was so warm and relaxing. Once you are ready to enter the pod...wait for the filter/jets to go OFF. I heard her say this and didn't listen. I looked like I was in a washing machine! and now my ears are hollow. Also, shower caps are pointless. Be mindful of your hairstyle because your hair WILL get wet. Once the jets stopped, it was a very relaxing experience. I slept most of the time. Once it's time to exit, you shower again and can use the refresh room for lotion etc. Pro tip: If you're anything like me, keep the Vaseline from the pod and use that instead of the lotion. The combs are Lifetouch picture day approved so consider bringing what you need. After you're dressed, you head back to the relaxation area where you can color, hydrate and use the oxygen bar. Emily then came back and talked with me about booking my next appointment and the packages that were available. My only complaint would be that I was using a giftcard and included that in my booking notes but it was overlooked at checkout. I was supposed to hear from the manager yesterday but haven't yet. I am all for relaxation and True Rest is the place for that. As far as fixing what ails me, I don't know but I do know that I was totally relaxed at the end of my session. The hot shower after the float was great. I was ready to lay down when I was done. Individuals are placed in a private float room with a shower. After bathing and dressing, you can meet your party in the communal area. I strongly recommend using the restroom before floating because you don't want your mind to concentrate on that while floating. I visited mid-afternoon so I was not sleepy. One thing I will do on my next visit is to request music throughout my float. It will keep my thoughts at bay and help me relax. An evening float may be even better as I can go straight home and go to bed. Yes, I will have to give that a try. I used a Groupon for my first visit and was not disappointed. I purchased True Rest's bogo offer and enjoyed my visit with my partner. We each had our own private rooms after being greeted and watching a video about how it works. They mentioned my gift cards were already linked to my account so it was a quick and easy process. Time is strange in the pod. The 1 hour session feels like a long time but I was surprised. My partner was worried a hour would be too long but even they agreed the meditation time in the float is perfect. It's long enough you don't worry about time and short enough you know it will come to an end sometime soon. I can see there are some benefits to this, it's a very cool experience. However it's a similar to breathwork and other types of meditation. It really all comes down to you and your mindset in noting your thoughts so you can get what you want out of the experience. I feel like I wasted time thinking about the float set up and not bumping into the sides. You feel like you're moving but you're not. Then worrying about the jets behind my head turning on while my long hair floated into them, they never mentioned if it can suck up my hair or what do addressing it could ease thoughts for people with long hair. The audio didn't work in either room. The instructional video was muted so I had to tell the staff and then the music in my pod never indicated time was starting or ending as I was told it would. We watched a video, got a tour and had our own individual rooms. The staff were great. There was music, your own shower and stuff. Which calmed any anxiety I may have had, also the warmed green tea was refreshing prior to my float. Before and after the float you will shower in the room with your pod and follow certain steps. Initially I was very apprehensive about this experience being that I'm claustrophobic & have always had a fear of getting stuck in an elevator I was not excited about it. After walking through and getting a tour of everything I realized my fears were futile because there is an interfón in the pod. Each room has a shower to use prior to getting into the pod. I had never considered floating as a therapy but love to just float around in the lake so decided to give this a try. I found everything was so much better than I imagined it to be. To start with, you are in a private room with a shower and your float tank. They provide an easily removable wax to plug up your ears and vaseline to put over exposed scrapes or cuts (trust me, you'll want this. I missed one on my cuticles). They also give a little float for your head that is optional but recommended. There is a video and great instruction beforehand to prepare you for everything. The temperature of the room and the water in the tank is perfect! I was worried once I was stripped down or after I got out of the tank there would be a period of shivering but I felt comfortable the whole time. Once in the tank I closed the hatch (there is so much space in there, even if you are claustrophobic, you should still be ok but are allowed to leave the hatch open). After easing into and getting comfortable, I turned off the light and began to drift. I bumped gently into the walls a few times but eventually remained in the same place. I know for certain I fell asleep for at least a few minutes. The first half of the experience was pleasurable and great. Then after a while I started getting anxious about how much time had elapsed and it felt like forever. I think, I am just not use to relaxing. I would definitely go back. More confident of what to expect, I may find myself more ready to relax and enjoy. Definitely pricey for a nap but there are other supposed benefits and it is an experience like none other. I've wanted to try a sensory deprivation tank for a very long time. Today, I finally got the opportunity to do so at True Rest CLT. As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted by a staff member who asked about my appointment time then offered me water or tea. Next, I was asked to sign a waiver that basically said no matter what happens to you in the float tank, True REST is not liable lol. The waiver also stated that if you contaminate the water in the tank by releasing bodily fluids you will be charged a $500 cleaning fee. Women are not allowed to use the tank during their month cycle due to possible contamination FYI. I was not aware that the same water was reused prior to booking my session. Had I known I would not have tried it. Nonetheless, the staff assured me that the water was filtered seven times between sessions and that the rooms are thoroughly sanitized after each use. The water in the tank is replaced weekly. For your first session you are required to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time to complete the liability waiver and to watch an introductory video about the float tank. After all that was completed a staff member took me to my room and explained to me how to use the float tank. I was also instructed to shower before and after my float session. There is a personal shower in each room. Shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner are provided. Ear plugs are also provided and should be placed in your ears before your first shower so that they don't get wet. The float room, shower, and float tank were clean and fresh. I was able to enter the float tank with ease and floated effortlessly. The temperature of the water was perfect! You have the option to turn the music and lights in the float tank off. Once your session is complete special music is played to alert you. Overall, it was a good experience in terms of customer service and cleanliness. However, I did not achieve the relaxed, meditative state that I desired so I won't try it again. Even so, I suggest that everyone try it at least once to see if you can reach the level of relaxation and peace you seek. read more

I've been curious about float tanks for a year or two, so when I saw this was opening I was excited to give it a try. I was nervous about feeling claustrophobic, but excited to give it a shot. True Rest has ample parking out front, which can be a pain in the area so I was pleased with that. Upon going inside I was greeted & filled out a waiver then sent to a waiting room with chaise lounge chairs and a big tv to wait for the other people with the same appointment time. They played a short video (6 minutes or so) explaining the tanks and then gave us a tour of the room. Each room has a bench, shower, tray for jewelry, towel & wash cloth, and ear plugs. They also have petroleum jelly that they said was to cover any cuts you have. Before getting in the tank you're directed to put in your ear plugs, shower & wash your hair. You have a little foam head rest to ensure your head stays afloat. Then get in and you can change the color of the light inside your pod or turn it off. My fears of claustrophobia quickly subsided. Between the ease of opening the pod and the easily accessible light, all was well. After closing the pod & turning off the interior light I could still see light from the room through cracks in the pod. It seemed like it took forever to turn off (it's motion detected) but who knows, it may have been like 5 minutes. I was shocked at how relaxed I got in the pod. I fell asleep and was awoken with the 5 minute warning music. I turned my light on & stretched (as they advised), then got out & showered. I'm so glad I had the chance to try a float spa and will definitely be back. Pricing with a membership seems fairly reasonable and can be shared between multiple people. read more

This was a pre Valentine's Day date night from my boo thang! I was a little anxious about this experience but it turned out to be really relaxing and enjoyable. I was able to float in a private room for 60 minutes. The room has a shower, shampoo and conditioner. They also provide wax ear plugs to prevent the salt water from getting in your ears. Closing the pod is completely optional. I floated with the pod half way open. At first the water is flowing rapidly and the colored light is on while the music is playing in the background. After about ten minutes it's completely dark and quite. I was able to relax however it would have been helpful to know all that would end so suddenly. The water flow, music and lights return once your float is over. Again very suddenly, definitely caught me off guard. read more

Meh... I imagined "sensory deprivation", but I was cold, chlorine smelling pod. I was getting goosebumps and just wanted to get out and warm up. Hair got tangled around my fingers, didn't look like mine, got grossed out and had to come out. Not for me, but I see others enjoy it. So who knows, might be for you. Since I did not enjoy it, and came out kinda quickly, I did not have to pay for it and was offered to come back and try a different pod, since they have multiple ones. This was an incredible experience. However, I do not have photos because it kind of defeats the purpose. I went there to let go so my phone got put away. When you walk in it is very quiet. Soft music is playing and it smells like a spa. They check you in and out you in a small room so that you can watch a short Video on the experience to give you more of an understanding of the benefits. Then you are take to your private room where you have your own flotation pod. There is a shower in the room. They supply you with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, ear plugs, plenty of towels, wash cloth and an ointment to put on any cuts or irritated areas that you might have. The pods are quite large. I was concerned about being claustrophobic but the pod was large enough that I didn't feel constrained to move. The pod is filled with water and epsom salt. You must shower before you get in. It is not necessary to wear a bathing suit. You are left alone in the room and there is a lock on the door. The water is very warm. The pod has a light that allows you to Change the colors and you can also turn it off. They suggest that you do turn it off to have the best experience. The point is to deprive your mind of all senses. They play soft music to relax you and after 5 minutes the music goes off. There is a button for you to intercom someone if you need to. You do close the door to the pod. It was interesting that I did not realize u til the end that the lights in the room go off when you close the pod. I floated for an hour. It was a very relaxing and gratifying experience. I was completely exhausted when I arrived, but I left there with tons of energy. I felt creative and wanted to start on projects. When before I had not drove and motivation. I had been working so many hours and really needs to recover. After your float you have the chance to have a cup of tea and a session of oxygen. It was wonderful. They suggest that you don't have any caffeine prior to your float so that you can really let go. I really think I have felt the affects of my float for a couple of days afterwards. I have been sleeping more soundly. They offer memberships that will make your floats more cost effective. I am definitely going back and suggest that everyone try it read more

I just wish there was one in Columbia, SC. I would definitely go at least twice a month at the least. My friend that went with me didn't give in to the float so he didn't enjoy it as much as I did. I've been sleeping like a baby since my float. If you can float in a pool, this won't be much of a challenge for you. If not, I would advise practicing some form of meditation prior to going. I have floated in sensory deprivation tanks several times and I have to say that True Rest does a wonderful job in their operation. On your first visit, as other reviewers have mentioned, you get a tour of the facility and watch an informational video. Once you're ready, you'll be taken to your float suite. These rooms are beautiful, bright, and clean. Your session begins with inserting gooey earplugs and taking a shower. After that, climb into your tank. As someone who is nearly always cold, I was concerned that cold fingers or toes could pull me out of the experience, but I found the water temperature to be perfectly comfortable. On my most recent visit, my tank was not properly reset and the lights inside the tank didn't fade after the introductory music ended. This was a shame and I felt like I missed out on several minutes of my float because of this. The "right" way to float is without lights and in silence. If you're nervous or claustrophobic you might choose to keep the pod door cracked or play some tunes, but you won't get the full experience without turning everything off and floating around with only your thoughts and the sound of your heartbeat. At the end of your float, a short musical track will bring you back to life. Get ready to exit the tank at the end of the interlude, because if you lounge in the water, the filter will turn on, startle you, and quite possibly undo all the relaxation you acquired during the session. Take another shower to wash the salt off your skin and out of your hair, get dressed, and put yourself together. There's a centralized room where you can use cotton swabs, tissues, and deodorant as needed. The restroom down the hall also has a hair dryer if you'd like to use it. During my recent visits, the oxygen bar was off-limits due to COVID, so I can't speak to that. I think anyone could benefit from a float at True Rest. Best case scenario, you find your new go-to self-care method, and worst case, you had a weird bath. read more

So, I apparently had a different experience than every one else so 3 stars with the assumption that this was an off day cause I wanted to rate lower. Prefacing this with the fact that I am an introvert and I really need time alone with quiet to recharge. I literally set this appointment at my desk on Thursday because I was COMPLETELY drained; people were coming in and out of my office back to back and when they weren't I was running around the plant. For some reason the idea of trying a flotation pod really appealed to me. Quiet? Darkness? And I can feel like I'm floating on a cloud? Sign me tf up! So the first issue came during the short video and meditation session. She took us in a room and put on about 10/15 minutes of meditation music. Which felt pointless cause it literally sounded like a frat house outside the door in the common area. This was probably the most annoying part for me because how is anyone supposed to relax with so much distracting noise. Second issue is the employee took me to a pod and informed me that the water in my pod was warmer than body temp. Isn't the point of the body temp water so that you don't notice the water? Correct me if I'm wrong but uhhh Third issue. Even as I'm showering and preparing for the pod I can hear people outside CLEARLY. Sounds like they're shouting down the hall even. Super distracting from the experience. Fourth Issue. Got nauseous 30min in and had to sit up. Not their issue cause that has to do more with my body. Still annoying. Fifth issue. The guy at the front desk seemed to keep verbally pushing the woman to ask me about doing the membership. Multiple times. Then tried to persuade me himself. I get it. But like, this isn't a car dealership. I don't want to be hassled about memberships and packages at the spa. Lastly. They didn't accept cash. And they may have this stated somewhere that I missed but it wasn't obvious if they do. I only operate with cash for my fun/food/gas/beauty services for budget purposes so that was an inconvenience for me. And this is the bougie in me but they served water in paper cups which felt off brand for the kind of experience and environment they have. The positives (because there were some) -clean facility -that shower in the individual rooms is bomb -smelled good in there -they have lotions and blow dryers and deodorants to use afterwards which is nice. -I did feel super relaxed when I left and through the rest of the day -pods are very large If you're solely going for the float experience to help with whatever ailments you have then sure it's nice enough. Honestly I hate to say this but this experience wasn't for me ! I tried my hardest to like it but I couldn't. The facility was very nice and so were the staffed, everything was nice and clean. Here's why it wasn't for me; 1 the water in the pod got cold very fast & I hate being cold. 2 I just really couldn't relax in the pod, I turned the lights off and everything. 3 THE SALT TAKES FOREVER TO GET OUT, I took a thorough shower and when I got and still there was salt everywhere. Float therapy is something I've been wanting to try for a while but honestly was a bit nervous about being enclosed in a small space filled with water. I saw a deal being offered and finally decided to try it. I'm glad I did. The staff was super friendly and explained everything which made me feel more comfortable. When I arrived I was taken to a room with nice rocking chairs that was dimmed and relaxing. They offered tea or water then I watched a short video about how the process works, the benefits and safety information. From there I was given a tour of the facility. The rooms where the pods are located are private and contain a shower stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. You're also given ear plugs and towels. You're instructed to shower and shampoo your hair before entering the pod. Once in the pod you may leave it open but they recommend closing. There is music played and a faint light in the pod to start then it shuts off after 5 min. It is very relaxing to just lay and let your mind be quiet. When the session is ending the lights and music come back up to signal you. You can shower again to remove the salt water and get dressed. There's a separate room stocked with additional towels, deodorant, lotion, q-tips, hair dryers etc that you may use to finish getting dressed. The whole experience from the time I walked in the door was terrific. Ali made the difference from a good float spa to great. She is truly passionate about floating and her experience with it! If you haven't tried this yet, this is a wonderful place to do so!!! The room is the perfect size and the shower is so relaxing. The automatic lights make it easy! For a little day spa, True Rest is fantastic! The float pod rooms are decorated well and minimal. There are showers in every room which makes it easy to clean up and wash your salty hair after! The room for doing your hair/dressing afterwards is minimal compared to other spas but really great for a little 1 hr visit! I have very bad arthritis and I'm going to honestly say that while the float itself left me pain free for a few hours, I'm not sure I noticed relief much after that. My husband took us for Valentine's Day and he could truly notice a calmness and relaxed state for 2-3 days to follow! read more

Such an amazing, relaxing experience that totally took away the tension in my neck and shoulders! In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I bought a package. I was hesitant to try it out at first, but I am so glad that I did. I enjoy getting massages, but they're expensive and the service isn't consistent (wish I could say I "always" get a good massage, but that's not how it works). I'm not going to lie - it's weird at first, and I was worried that closing myself in the dark pod would freak me out. But, you can leave the soft lights on inside, and can even choose your favorite color, if you don't want to be totally in the dark. Another option is to leave the lights on and put the washcloth they provide over your eyes so that you experience the sensory deprivation without actually being in the dark. For my first float, it took me a good 25 minutes to calm my over-active mind and get used to "floating." I started with the light on in the pod and set to soft blue, but I eventually turned the light off (you can easily control the light and music while you're floating in the pod) and made myself try the full "sensory deprivation" experience. I'm so glad that I did! I left feeling much calmer than when I arrived. But, the best part is that the terrible tension I carry in my neck and shoulders (desk job and 2 kids under 5) literally disappeared after my float. I definitely recommend trying True Rest Float Spa. Your first time will probably push you a bit out of your comfort zone, but the results speak for themselves! I can't wait until my next float! read more
