I read many of the reviews and perused the photos of the different fence projects they had done, and I was impressed with their work. I contacted the company and got a quick response from Miguel, the owner, to set up an appointment for an estimate. After meeting with Miguel, I gave him an idea of what I had in mind, and he took accurate measurements of my property. Miguel gave me estimates on the use of different materials: wood, aluminum, galvanized steel and vinyl. After giving Miguel a budget I could work with, he presented me the options of using natural premium redwood (stained and sealed) with powder coated galvanized steel posts. Miguel was very easy to work with, and I like how he offered his input to further enhance my vision of what I wanted. Miguel is very efficient, along with his coworker, and he takes great pride in providing a quality product. He always kept me in the loop regarding each work phase, and was quick to address any of my questions. Best Gates and Fencing does not rush their jobs. For my project, they work in phases, and it was great to see my fence project come to life, so to speak. In the end, I was extremely in awe of the transformation Best Gates and Fencing provided. Johnny was very flexible because my needs changed between approving the quote and the scheduled install. Cruz and Enrique performed the install. I received a text about 45 minutes before they arrived. They walked the project with me and kept me in the loop when a few minor things popped up, so we could decide how to move forward in a way that worked for me. They were very communicative, professional and kept the job very clean. Overall VPF did a great job and we'd definitely recommend!

The Positives * Communication & Speed: They were quick to respond, quick to get us on the schedule, and finished the installation very fast. * Pricing & Reputation: Their quote was fair and in line with other estimates I received. I ultimately chose them because I recognized the brand and had seen their work around the neighborhood. * Customer Support: When I reached out regarding issues after the job, they responded quickly and sent a different installer out to fix one of the issues. The Negatives * Damaged Materials: Many vinyl pieces arrived scratched up because they were transported loose in the back of the installer's truck, sliding around in dirt and debris. * Rough Site Cleanup: I had carefully cleared all the rocks away from the old fence so they could work easily and replace the rocks afterward. Because the crew rushed, they did a poor job spreading the rock back out, leaving obvious bare dirt patches despite there being plenty of rock. There were tons of vinyl shavings from the installation that are all over the yard. * Property Damage: Concrete was dripped onto my decorative walkway pavers, which I still haven't been able to remove. * Missed Instructions: I specifically asked them not to connect the new fence to my neighbor's existing fence, but they did it anyway. Follow-Up & Final Verdict To their credit, Alpine Fence sent a second technician who replaced the scratched rails, posts, and gate, and fixed a gate installation error. However, they completely ignored the concrete on my decorative pavers, the rock landscaping issue, and the improper connection to the neighbor's fence. They get the job done quickly and stand by their customer service to an extent, but the rushed workmanship and damage to surrounding property keep this at a 3-star review.

I recently hired Steve to build a custom fence and do some basic landscaping for me at my…read moreClairemont home. From the first meeting, I could tell Steve was an unconventional kind of contractor and was willing to work WITH me to get the exact results I wanted. We spend at least an hour in person reviewing the project, then several rounds of phone call/emails back and forth to hammer out the details and price. Compared to my other bids for the exact same work, Steve's bid was exceptionally detailed (I kid you not, down to the nuts and bolts required) and was SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper--so much so that I hired him on the spot when I got his final reworked bid. I am a pretty particular person (some might say a micro-manager), and I had a very specific vision for how I wanted the fence to be built and look. Steve (and his employees Chris & Patrick) were completely receptive to my input and turned the whole project into a collaborative effort in figuring out how to solve some of the more unique issues that arose during the construction. For me and my personality, that worked out perfectly. I am sure other contractors would have totally blown their lid dealing with me onsite everyday asking questions and talking, but Steve's guys took it in stride and the added collaboration really worked out for the benefit of the final result. The final fence built is so amazing people literally stop as they drive by and shout to ask who did the fence for me. I have even had SEVERAL people knock on my front door and ask for the contractor who built the fence. Part of that is down to my killer modern fence design (Steve know's I am right on that!), but most of it falls down to Steve's excellent execution of my vision. Due to the complexity of the project, Steve estimated 3-4 weeks, and they landed a little early at 3 weeks despite a few mix-ups and change orders. As the project was wrapping up, I was really looking forward to hiring Steve to do more work on other landscaping projects, but sadly, Steve told me he was moving home to be closer to family and this was his last project! I would without a doubt hire Steve and his team again for my future landscaping needs if he ever returns to San Diego.
