First time here and now I plan to be back. I've heard great things about multiple barbers at the shop. Got my hair cut by Finch, turned out great. I felt my time in the chair was long enough to feel like he took his time and gave attention to detail, but short enough that I can go about my day. To finish, he even went out of his way to use the same pomade that I mentioned that I use regularly. A nice touch. Make an appt early since this shop is popular, for good reason. read more

This is the first time in my life on everything I love that I have ever left a review for any place. But I had to leave this one because I feel so strongly about it. I am desperately looking for work and needed a decent haircut and when I went in my hair was down to the bottom of my neck and I just asked for an my inch of hair on top of my head. But he kept trimming and trimming and trimming and I was facing away from the mirror and had a really bad feeling. Then when he turned me around. This is what I saw. Proceed to the picture. It was $35 and I tipped the guy $10 because I'm just a good tipper no matter what. But I was devastated honestly. I know it's just hair and it grows back but come on man. I can't even spick it with pomade for heavens sake. I'm really not trying to be mean. I'm just voicing how I feel about it and didn't even bother going back into the barbershop to complain because I didn't want to embarrass myself. But there you have it. It is what it is and I'm moving on. Not all barbers are the same, which is why I wish I could give you the name of the guy that cut my hair so that you could have a heads up. God bless and have a good day everyone. Wow and he even takes a shot at me by leaving a comment saying I'm high as a kite talking to imaginary people when I I don't do drugs at all. I can't because I'm on probation and I get tested. I'm perfectly sober and perfectly coherent and I wasn't talking to any imaginary people and I think that that's a really low, unprofessional shot at a bad review on Yelp. Maybe you should address bad reviews in a more professional manner. Mr. Elijah owner. read more

True Blue Barber Shop - I mean he might as well have just shaved my head. And leave a little poof of hair in the front to make me look like a rooster or something. - Barbers Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

Eli has been my barber since 2001, so when he left Hawleywood's to open up his own shop, I immediately followed him to his new location. This is a much more laid back place and has more of the classic barber shop look and feel. Some of the other barbers are also from Hawleywood's and are all great at what they do. They also give you free beer if you like. $25 for a cut but I always add $5 for tip. They also sell Imperial hair care products like pomade and pomade gel. Place is little difficult to find because it's tucked way in the back with no outside sign. Just look for Subway and karate studio. read more

A fantastic barbershop. I've been coming here for the last few months since moving down from Seattle and am quite impressed. My go-to guy Finch knows his stuff and has been crafting my head with lazer precision. Every time I go in he knows exactly what to do without me asking. I'm used to Rudys where they charge $30 and try to shovel you out in under 30min. I appreciate that True Blue really takes their time to make sure everything is spot on. An hour for $20 ain't bad. Super chill place, cool guys, and quality barbers. I shall recommend. read more

Hello all, just wanted to blow up my barbershop, a top shop in OC! They offer Classic, manly, trending cuts for boys and men. The prices are (extremely) competitive for the quality of service. Scheduling is simple and easy! They book out about 5 days or so in advance: this says everything you need to know about how they are trusted, valued, respected, and the quality of cut for the value you pay. They book-out about 2 weeks around the holidays. Don't be late to your appointment! If you are late, don't show up. That's just rude. And you need to pay for that time too. Serious. They deserve that respect. They're legit. The shop is always clean and always smells like a classic shop. Dark wood floors, black leather chairs, massive TV, and classic barbershop chatter. 7am or 7pm, the conversation is always live. And never inappropriate around the kids They offer drinks. Have T-shirt's to rep. I bought two. They straight-rasor shave your neck and ear-line. Been a customer since the day they opened! I travel from lake forest/irvine/baker ranch area to get my hair cut here. I drive past probably 30 barbershops to get cut. You should too. I'm adding this edit to my review: someone wrote a bad review about Jeff, and the whole shop really; DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT REVIEW. IT IS LITERALLY GARBAGE; The claims are unsubstantiated and just flat not true. I have literally never had one bad experience with this shop and for anyone to write a bad review of an org based off one miscommunication or something and then never go back bc of it says everything about the person behind the screen; Dude, be nice to people! And if something wonky happens, that's life. I tip huge every time bc the rate is so good, it's easy. Other barbers/salons are minimum $40 just to breath their air. If anyone has an issue, I'll gladly buy your cut. Find me on Venmo or PayPal! Mic, dropped. Direct message me with questions. -Ethan read more

I'd follow Calvin anywhere, and I've got the history that shows it. For a brief time when he wasn't cutting hair I went elsewhere, but a piece of me always felt unsatisfied. Calvin had conditioned me to expect perfection with each haircut Calvin is a craftsman, he is meticulous, detail oriented and makes a masterpiece out of my disheveled hair. He's also great to talk to and I love visiting with him. Fact is, this is less a post about True Blue, (which stand-alone is a great location and very well put together) and more about Calvin. Wherever he goes, I go. He's my barber and I suggest you make him yours as well read more

I've had my hair cut by most of these guys by now and every time it's been fantastic. We all do settle on a consistent barber, though, and I've been working with Doug lately. Don't let the bearded mug scare ya... he's super nice and can give you a perfectly clean cut. These guys go out of there way to make sure you're happy. Do you need a drink? They got ya. Need to come in before or after hours? They got ya. Forget cash and need to drop by the local ATM? No worries, they got ya. To get your haircut here, you need to make appointments ahead of time. You can almost never schedule appointments day-of, and even a few days ahead of time can be challenging. But it's worth it for the great experience. And hey, you get to see "True Blue haircut" in your calendar for the coming week to get all excited. read more

I don't know what to say except, After spending months in isolation due to Covid threats and the Gloom and Doom forecasts that bring on heavy depression it's easy to let some of our basic needs, like proper grooming go to the back burner, but I can testify that almost nothing feels better than having one of the amazing barbers at True Blue Barber Shop, bring you out of the Gutter with a long over due haircut and shave, My barber Doug, Is pretty much the only barber I would not only wait 2 weeks for an open spot, but trust that when he is finished I can look at myself in the mirror with confidence and pride once again, It's a great feeling that only Barber Doug is able to do, I feel like a complete bum before my appointment but leave with a lot more self esteem and the ability to look people in the eye once again, I don't know how you would price that? But I always make sure I can leave a nice tip, If you can't get a sacred appointment with Doug, for what I've seen in the last few years of frequenting this shop, all of the Barbers do A+++++ work so who ever you book with you will leave guaranteed feeling 100x's better as well as looking the same, your also bound to have a few laughs in between, Thank you my brother Doug, As well as the other barbers of True Blue who make this place what it is! read more

Calvin!!!! Is the MAN!!! I reached out to him for a last minute appointment and he somehow managed to get me in for a cut before I had to fly out on a business trip. He saved the day.! I went from "Scruff McGruff" to "Fresh 2 death" thanks to Calvin. When I sat in the chair he asked what kind of cut I'm looking for?... I told him "you're the artist, go for it".. and it was like he Read My Mind!!! I came out of that barbershop looking professional and sharp, Ready to WIN!! That being said, all of the Barbers at True Blue are Top Notch, and I would recommend anyone of their barbers if your looking for an excellent experience in a great atmosphere. They all have a pretty full schedule most of the time, so book your appointment. read more

I have gone to this shop maybe a dozen times with no issues but after this last time I won't be going back. I always saw Jeff, and for some reason the fade in the back was way lower than usual on my last visit. So I think no worries it's only been two days (my gf told me about it because I hadn't noticed the back of my head immediately), I'm sure Jeff will fix it because he seemed like a somewhat cool dude and we had built a rapport. So I call and he says that I need to schedule an appointment. So I think that's cool I understand they are a busy shop. So I make an appointment, Jeff fixes it and then I shake his hand and go to leave he tells me that it will be full price..... Uhh bro, let's think about this, how much could my hair have grown in a couple days to warrant paying full price? I tip literally 25% every single cut and you are going to play me like that? Good one. I don't even need to really get into the whole gentrified Newport pseudo-hipster vibes, the cash only vibes (you tax-dodging bruh?), the exclusive-club awkward around newcomers vibes, the ragging on previous customers after they leave vibes, or the overpriced vibes. I just ignored all that noise because at the end of the day I just want my hair cut. I don't care how many Jack Daniel's posters you have, how many beers you offer me while I wait, how well done your tattoos are, how high the sleeves are rolled up on your plaid flannel, or any of that other bs. I just want my hair cut to look good, and own any mistakes you make because like, you know, customer service or something? No worries though because there's like 20 shops in a 5 mile radius so you just gotta move on to the next one lol. read more

A pure classy joint for a person to get a straight razor shave or an excellent haircut! I came here on 1/05/17 to get my haircut by True Blue's latest addition to their Barber arsenal BARBER DOUG!!! Barber Doug has been cutting my hair for quite some time now and is my go-to guy for that classic haircut and straight razor shave he's been doing for over 10 years now, maybe longer.. Barber Doug to me is the Indian Larry of Barbering, serious and dedicated to his craft and highly skilled in his field and always on top of his game!! I've followed Doug from a few shops over the years and I'm always satisfied 100%! The shop here is professional and top notch! There's plenty of parking and this place is easy to get to anywhere in Orange County and beyond! Make an appointment, sit in the chair, have a beer or water and let the master do his thing! Barber Doug is the Man! Find out for yourself! Cheers! read more

Great service, they could fit me in same day. They did a great job and I will certainly be back

I've been wanting to go here for a while, but they are always booked up. I called and got an appointment and got in, but they had me for a later time. Came back an hour later. I felt comfortable, but kinda an outsider at the same time. It's definitely a high demand club for hipsters. I wanted a shave and some advice on how to shape my beard. After the shave everything seemed fine, but driving home I noticed some areas that should have been shaved. When I got home I spent over an hour redefining. Okay experience, but unfortunately a waste of money and time. You guys can keep your fancy barber shop. read more

I get that this is a place to get a rockabilly haircut from rockabilly hipsters who are good at their jobs. It's kind of like a salon for vain pretentious men who may think that going to a "old school" barber and drinking a beer might be mistaken for personality. I myself am a man who usually keeps his whole head at a No.1 so 99.9% of the time if I simply walk in it's no problem. So that's exactly what I did. When I walked in I was made to feel like I pissed on everybody's sunshine. I sat down in the chairs backed against the wall to a collective look of WTF are you doing here? The first person who acknowledged me asked if I was an appointment that he was expecting. I told him I was a walk in, and he proceeds to tell me that they work by appointment only and the next spot was Wednesday. This was on a Friday. So I chose my last option which was to walk out with my tail between my legs and douche chills running up my spine. It was the right choice for me. I am a balding man who's hair requires very little upkeep. I don't need a IPA with my haircut I just wanted to clean up a bit, well I guess this place is too cool for me. Fuck it there's always supercuts. read more

I came into True Blue for a shave and a haircut. I've been wet shaving for over a year now, and was thrilled to find a barber shop that offered straight razor shaves. The prep for the shave was top notch - but the shave itself was another story. I've never had such awful razor burn in my whole life, with a matching assortment of nicks and weepers just to round the experience out. After the shave was done my face felt and looked like a red hot mess. I alerted the barber to this, expressed my dissatisfaction, and was told there was nothing he could do about it. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this establishment. I really liked the atmosphere, and the barbers here all had a great barber shop personality. The hair cut was solid, but the straight razor shave (which is actually a shavette using Feather blades) just mauled my face. Come here for a haircut only and your gold. Add a shave and you're in for a world of hurt. Response to owner: I understand that your business has been offering hot lather shaves for a while, but Shay's technique suggests he's very new to straight razor shaving. There's nothing wrong with a lack of experience, but his technique translated into a truly awful shave that cost me $25! Also, I did come in with 2 days of growth, and as for the DE blades I use at home, they're Feathers! So again, this translated down to one thing - technique. I would hope as a business owner that you would stop attempting to deflect blame towards your (ex) customer, and instead work with Shay to improve his technique. He really is a nice guy. He just needs some help. read more

Spacious and comfortable barber shop, good vibe. TVs, magazines, antiques, etc. Took my 7 yr old son, we got haircuts from Doug. $15 for kid cut, $20 for adult. Look forward to coming back. read more

This place is clean, manly, and awesome. Jeff cut my hair and did an awesome job. He was even really cool about the fact that I didn't know this was a cash-only facility and let me leave for a few minutes to go to the ATM next door and didn't give me a hard time about it. These guys are great to be around and I really enjoyed my experience. I've only been here twice and cannot continue going because I live out of state, but I would go here every month if I could! For people who have negative experiences or are on the fence about this place, let me make it simple... If you expect a fanfare, roses at your feet, and a big cheesy grin when you walk in the door... This place is not for you. If you are a scrawny high schooler trying to be a hipster... This place is not for you. If you cannot handle watching an R-rated, potentially gory movie on an 80 inch flatscreen... This place is not for you. If you cannot walk in and be told you need an appointment without running off like a yellowbelly...This place is not for you. Do you know which place is for you? Supercuts. Supercuts is for you. ... However, if you are manly BAMF with cash in your pocket... THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU! read more

Everything about this place was great. Cold beer, friendly staff, great haircut then I got the bill. I won't be coming back unless the prices come down. read more

True Blue Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

This barber shop can be described in one word: Quality! I've been coming to Eli for about 9 years now and I do not need to ever tell him how to cut my hair. He already knows. Very professional and no nonsense atmosphere. Everyone there is very inviting and strives to do the best damn cut possible. Nice open floor and great viewings on the TV. Over all, great place for a guy to come and relax for an hour getting a new cut or a hot towel shave. Do yourself a favor and come here. Sure shops are popping up all over the place, but only the true quality barbers will outshine. This place is one of them. You will not be disappointed!!! read more

Been coming to True Blue for almost a year now, and I couldn't be happier with the way my hair looks. Right before I came here, I started following a bunch of "barbershop" tumblrs and was inspired by all the cool haircuts people were posting on the daily. And, at the time, I'd had the same haircut for over 10 years! It was time for a change. True Blue hooked me up and made me feel confident with my new look. Now I look great and I'm a pomade snob. Shae and Finch have both cut my hair, and both are exceptional barbers. Come on down, have a beer or water, and leave looking better than you came in. read more

The hunt for my new barbershop is over (saying it with confidence this time.) These guys know how to cut. I hadn't been in a few months while I was looking for a new barber. Finch hooked it up this time, and I'm very impressed. He asked how I wanted it and got to work. I haven't had a cut look or feel this good since my last barber in Alhambra. I also have the kind of hair that poofs out if it's not kept long enough (unless it's buzzed), and he knew the exact length to tame it. He also cleaned up my cut with a straight razor shave! The place is clean and not at all intimidating. The barbers were hilarious with the banter between each other. Come here if you want real barbers with a cut that you're happy with. $25 per cut, complimentary drink, and a great atmosphere. Don't forget to tip! I don't usually make the next appointment right after a cut, but I was so satisfied, I did. read more

This place is superb! Up until three weeks prior my hair was past the middle of my back and I was looking to cut it REALLY short. I searched around online and found a lot of great recommendations for this place, they did not disappoint. Very laid back atmosphere and professional. A much appreciated and needed flashback to the "manly" barbershops of days gone by. The service and cut is unsurpassed. I haven't had my hair short in a very long time and Shea gave me the perfect cut! Great attention to detail and a cool dude. I booked my next appointment before I left. If you are looking for a great cut in a great place for a great price, you can do no better! read more

Eli has been cutting my hair for more than a decade, started out in a three and a half chair, one sink shop, then to a larger place with his buddy, when the buddy mistreated him he did not get mad, he just opened up a great place of his own. Pros: Great haircuts ($25), complimentary beer Cons: Cash only I've come here a couple of times for a haircut and I have yet to be disappointed. I've gotten my haircut by Shay and Finch and they both do a great job. Like other barbershops nowadays, they offer complimentary beer with your cut. Cuts are $25 (before tip), but it's well worth it. I've gotten a lot of compliments on my haircut and I owe it all to these guys. read more

Wow, this shop is fantastic. If you prefer the barbershop experience to a salon or "Fantastic Super" kinda place, True Blue is a score. The ambiance would make John Wayne proud, and the gentlemen running the shop are tip top. Finch cut my hair today and was a craftsman with the details - I'm looking and feeling fantastic. I'll schedule my next appointment later in the day so I can enjoy a brew. I'll definitely be back, hope to see you fellow gentlemen there - you'll be glad you came. read more

Eli it the best! Bar none. I'm going back to him all the way from Lake Elsinore cause quite frankly no one comes close.

So I have been going to the same supercuts for about a year and I have this lady who usually does my hair. I really wanted to change things up and decided to grow out my hair and try an ACTUAL barber shop. I went ahead and yelped places and found that this place was close to where I live and had a ton of good reviews so naturally I said why not. I called them up, made an appointment and headed on over. One thing you have to take into consideration is that you need to call before hand before going in. They guys are super chill and can set up a time pretty quickly. When you pull up to it you might be thrown off because it is in a mini business plaza and the shop is labeled BARBER but it is definitely a great place once you walk in. There are 4 comfortable leather chairs, a big screen TV, and you're offered a drink before you sit down....i felt like a mad men character. One thing I'm not super great at is describing a hairstyle to a barber. Usually I say one thing and end up with something completely different. Brandon is such a pro. I gave him small pointers and he got what i wanted and he got it right away. I really liked how the main focus here is to make sure that the customer feels relaxed. I got a haircut, got my hair treated with different products that I feel added shine and volume, i got my neck hair taken care of with a straight razor and some awesome moisturizer, I even got a mini neck message with this machine thing... These guys are really good. best barber experience ever. read more

I've been coming here for a few months now and I figured I'd add to their list of 5 star reviews. First off, I've been to a lot of places looking for a good cut. This place is awesome and super reasonably priced for what you get. I heard about it through some guys at work that go here. I used their rec and set an appt with Jeff. He is killer and and cuts a damn good fade and part. I got my brother going her too, using Finch. Best cut he's ever gotten also. The entire establishment is top notch. read more

Great looking shop with an extraordinary group of barbers. I came in here a week before my wedding with my groomsmen to get haircuts and a hot lather straight razor shave. I called ahead of time so that we could all get seated at the same time. We were all offered a cold beer upon entering and sat immediately in our seats. Across from the seats is a beautiful flat screen on the wall with ESPN on. My particular barber was Finch, and let's just say I felt confident on my wedding day that my hair was the best it had ever looked. Each one of the groomsmen looked great as well. Awesome shop that has a clean classic vibe to it with some stand-up men working the shop. Thanks True Blue! read more

After doing some research on Yelp, I found that True Blue had some really good reviews and decided to give them a shot. I walk in and was taken back by the atmosphere of a REAL barbershop. I have been to many mens salons to get my hair cut but never a true barbershop. I sat down with Shae, went over what I was looking for and he went to work-not to mention my hair is a bit difficult to cut.
