In addition to great bbq and hash, the service was friendly, the dining area and bathroom spotless, and the owner Milton sat down with us and told the origin story. A total experience. So glad we found his place on yelp. read more

Great BBQ. Love the Sweet Lady sauce. Wish they were closer to our home. We would go more often

Milton is amazing and food is the best. We got a variety of platters and sides and every single dish was exceptional.

The food was very good, I went there on the 4th of July and I just had to go back for more

Great food, friendly people. Love the Pretty Lady sauce and the collards. Stopped here on our way thru SC and we will be back.

Bbq wasn't on the level it used to be. My friends chicken breast was so dry he could have spit feathers. The other saying I didn't understand. Would you like it room temperature or hot and ready. Tells me it's been sitting. We spent over $60 for lunch! That was mediocre. Milton has someone else on grill that just turns the meat and pats to see if it's done. I'm done want spend my money again. read more

Good God.... stopped in here after getting some auto work done just around the block. Had one (1) bite of their rice and hash and my brain exploded. Z-sandwich + mustard sauce was fire as well. If you haven't been here yet, you're wrong. read more

If you're confused by the outside, you're not alone. The ceramic pigs really are an interesting touch! I was excited to find this local Black owned BBQ spot. It's clear that they're a favorite because a lot of customers were in and out, but they did a great job of managing safety by only letting in a certain number of people and asking people to wait in their cars after ordering. I had the turkey wings and they were big (and yummy)! I also had the Mac & cheese and collards as sides. The side were so-so. My date also said he wasn't very impressed by the flavor of the sides but he did love his pork. The sides aren't enough to turn me away though, I would return! read more

We tried True BBQ for the first time yesterday. Milton was so warm and welcoming! The chopped pork was fantastic with or without sauce. The baby back ribs were excellent. We preferred the sexy lady (tomato-based) sauce, but were glad to have options. Great old style mac n cheese. we will definitely be back the next time we are in town! read more

Ordered the small baby back ribs plate. Enough food for 2 meals or to split for 2 people. The baby back ribs were so amazing with a lot of flavor and meat. The BEST hash I have ever had. Clean throughout, no grisly pieces etc I've gotten in it at other places. Potato salad was good as well. Flavor of the Mac and cheese was good but needed more cheese. Handling Covid well - mask, distancing, shields, and once you place your order you wait in your car and they bring it to you. Will definitely be back. read more

True BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - West Columbia, South Carolina

The good: - the barbecue and ribs were well smoked - the hash was interesting, with a little liver flavor The not so good: - the ribs were much too dry. The barbecue was also a little on the dry side. - the mustard sauce was too sweet, tasting more of sugar than mustard. - the string beans were straight from a can. We asked as we ordered and she told us that they were fresh. Since we got take out, we didn't discover the lie until we got home. - the mac and cheese was some of the worst we've had, very bland and not very cheesy. They were out of collards, which we would have ordered. - atmosphere inside is not very nice - 4% surcharge on all electronic payments read more

True BBQ - Hash over rice (good!), mac and cheese, canned green beans, and dry ribs. - Barbeque Near Me - West Columbia, South Carolina

I stopped at True BBQ on my way into town for a quick dinner and I was pleasantly surprised with my meal! I ordered the chopped bbq plate with two sides (coleslaw and corn), along with rice and hash. Everything was seasoned well and really tasty! The plate was about $12. My favorite part of the meal was the delicious BBQ sauce they recommended to me. I'm glad I got to try some Carolina BBQ from this cute restaurant! read more

Something about being at the Zoo makes me crave BBQ, probably has something to do with living in Memphis for 5 years and going to the Zoo and then Central BBQ at least once a month. So as we were finishing up at the Riverbank Zoo, we brought out google and asked where the nearest BBQ place was, which is how we stumbled on True BBQ. They smoke the BBQ right there in the parking lot, the smell draws you in before you even open the door. The menu is simple. I ordered the chopped BBQ plate, I expected shredded BBQ, like what is on a BBQ sandwich, over the rice but it was almost like mush with a tangy mustard based sauce, it was delicious. I had the potato salad and Mac and Cheese sides, both were good. My son had the BBQ sandwich and Coleslaw, the slaw wasn't my favorite but the sandwich was good. The service was amazing, they were all so nice and accommodating! We will definitely visit Trues again! read more

True BBQ - Chopped BBQ, MAC and Cheese and Potato Salad. - Barbeque Near Me - West Columbia, South Carolina

I am so DISAPPOINTED,, about 3 years ago this place had the absolute best BBQ & soul food. I could tell anyone to go there knowing they would not be disappointed. To get to the point here's what the problem was! 1. The cooks, host Or whatever you call them looked really suspect, like trying to stay clean suspect. 2. The food was COLD, the macaroni was dry, the hash was watery and still cost me $14.00!! WTF???! Somebody must be SMOKIN THAT ISH!!!! 3. No one was in there while we were there, I think that should have been a hint. Please don't waste your money!!!! Go to Chef T's instead read more

Came to true BBQ for late lunch. We ordered ribs with collard greens and mac n cheese. My husband ordered it without BBQ sauce. Which to my surprise was delicious. I'm used to BBQ dripping and my fingers getting dirty. The meat was so tender. And very tasty. The collards had a sweet taste to it. Which I really liked. Mac n cheese were ok. The tea is sooo good!!! The staff was very friendly. In the mood for BBQ. Give it a chance. You won't regret it. read more

Yes. This is the spot for BBQ in USA. So far I've been all over this country and I've had bbq in all the great bbq states. This one knocked it pit of the park with great ribs and brisket with sauces that'll make you wanna slap yo momma. They have 3 sauces for your bbq and every one of them is made to perfection. I couldn't choose between one sauce out of the 3 for best in show. They are all delicious. The sauce is on the side so you can dip or drizzle your meat as you wish. One is vinegar based and it makes you feel like you're enjoying chicken wings with a bbq rib or brisket kick. One is tomato based that gives you that old school feeling and goes perfectly with your bbq. The last one is the mustard based sauce. Which I thought at first I wouldn't like, but oh man was I wrong. This sauce changes my mind about adding mustard at all on my bbq. It's a great sauce and it gives you great pleasure in knowing that you can enjoy one more sauce on your bbq to change it up. The ribs by themselves have a great rub on them which doesn't need a sauce to cover it up. The brisket is so delicious and moist it melts on your tongue. If you had no teeth I promise you wouldn't have a struggle with this brisket. I enjoyed the potato salad the most out of the 4 sides I tried. The coleslaw is a little high on the black pepper and vinegar side but not too bad where it doesn't taste good. I like it but only in a small amount in between other bites. The baked beans remind me of one of my favorite canned beans, so I can't tell you if it's homemade or canned. The Mac n cheese is creamy but not very cheesy flavored. read more

The folks are really nice and the food is great. I had the BBQ plate and sides. They give nice sized portions also.

True barbecue has the best hash and rice. I don't eat any ones but theirs. 5 STARS!

Look, I'm from NC and so am incapable of giving SC bbq 5 stars, but True BBQ is legit. The pork is smoky and toothsome, the hash is .... quite tasty (?!?!), the mac & cheese and green beans are very good, and the people are as kind and welcoming as the day is long! It would take a long time for me to love the Sexy Lady (mustard) Sauce on BBQ (on chicken tho?!), but the Pretty Lady (ketchup) Sauce and the vinegar sauce? Now you're talking! Come here; feel the love, and eat well! read more

This is a good, solid, BBQ joint. It is low key, tucked into Triangle City in West Columbia. When you pull up, a large grill is out front cooking some great pork and chicken. The smell of slow cooking BBQ is amazing. The atmosphere inside is friendly and relaxed. However, when they are busy, the place is packed and the wait can take a while. We've been coming for several years and sort of know when to time it to miss the crowds. The chopped pork is good. Nice, smoky flavor. Tender. The chicken is good too. Moist and smoky. The baby back ribs are solid as well. Meat easily separates from the bone. All of the sauces are great! Can't go wrong with any of them. The mac and cheese tastes like your grandmother made it! Real cheese! The hash gets high marks as some of the best in South Carolina. And it is good. The collards... Oh, my! The best collards around. You won't find collards like this in any restaurant. It really is like an old family recipe. Each dinner comes with two sides and my wife gets a double order of collards! Basically put, we drive over from Irmo - malfunction junction traffic be damned - to get True BBQ for dinner! read more

The real deal, True BBQ is a small family-run restaurant that serves amazing, melt-in-your-mouth southern pork barbeque. Moist with just the right amount of smoky flavor, the meat is great alone, but then add their pretty lady sauce (mustard base) or sexy lady sauce (ketchup base) and you really have something special! Their cook, Ernest, has been at it for years cooking for church and family events. He and his family opened this restaurant back in September and have been working hard to keep their customers happy. Last I looked their one-day lunch record was 218 served. Pretty good considering the only have a few seats in the dining area! The best thing about this place is that Ernie cooks it ALL - smoked turkey wings, beef brisket, pork chops, and the absolute best hash and rice you've ever had. The traditional southern sides that come with meals definitely measure up to the quality of the entrees. In my opinion, if you like good southern barbeque and you happen to be in West Columbia you owe it to yourself to check out True BBQ! read more

3 adults went on a whim for a Friday night. We ordered all that was left ( so go early) two small bbq sandwiches and a meal. Small sandwiches were a good size with a side of Mac and cheese for two females. The meal was a lot and the hash was ok but the actual bbq was on point, great!! We loved the food!! Long wait ( 25-28 mins) , we ordered and waited but it was worth the wait. I think most people order via phone or online. We will come back and spread the word! read more

We arrived around 12pm and all they had was pulled pork, which is fine because that's what I wanted. We ordered two little Z pulled pork sandwiches with two different sauces and coleslaw. We ordered 6lbs pulled pork and beans for our crew. Are on it for two days. Awesome food. Hole in the wall place.

Absolutely amazing BBQ best I have had. Pulled pork was the best. Friendly fast and great service

The name says it all! Now, just because I gave 5 stars, please don't expect an upscale experience...food and hospitality earned the 5 star rating! It is definitely a hole-in-the-wall and very small, but it's clean and well loved! The food. We had ribs, pork chop, pulled pork, southern hash, potato salad, mac'n'cheese, and sweet tea (OMG the sweet tea!) All was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. If it weren't for the fact that we were just passing through South Carolina, we would go back...frequently! read more

What a gem! I had the baby backs with collards, green beans and rice. and my co-worker had the pulled pork with potato salad and Mac and cheese with the rice. It was all amazing! I went back and forth between the Pretty Lady and Sexy Lady sauce! I cannot day enough about this place! Great food, clean, friendly, GREAT FOOD! read more
