I had a mysterious leak in a tire that had already been plugged once but was still leaking. I called Jim early in the morning and he said that they had a lot on their schedule that day but if I brought it in right away he'd take a look at it. I really feel like he went out of his way to diagnose the problem, explain it to me, and then fix it for a very fair price. In addition, Jim was attentive to customers as they arrived, the waiting room and bathroom were clean, there was free wifi, and there was a Keurig and chilled bottled water available to customers who were waiting. Best mechanic experience. The owner is extremely helpful and is always looking out for his customer's best interest. There are many times I swing into the shop for something minor, and he tells me what is going on and what to look for next time. There was also one time I was on a long road trip and a light came on that I was unsure of. So, I stopped at a gas station and called him. So if you had to choose, what's most important when searching for an auto mechanic? Trust that the mechanic is being honest? Knowledgeable and skilled? Fair pricing? Work done when promised? Jim at True Auto Repair is the dream mechanic . . . he came through on all of these things! I had a check engine light come on with my 2006 Nissan Altima SER and based on a recommendation from a friend, took my car to True Auto Repair to look at the issue. He did a quick test and said while there was chance issue with a gas cap seal, most likely it was nothing. He reset the indicator and told me to come back if the light came on again. NO CHARGE. (As a follow up, the light hasn't come back on). I needed new tires for my car, and having such a honest experience with Jim, I asked him to give me a quote. He told me what it would cost to replace the tires with the same ones I had on my car (I knew what I paid for them previously and his quote was lower), and he also gave me a quotes on less expensive options. He ordered the tires I wanted and installed them later the same week. When depending on others for services that I know very little about, I often worry that in one way or another I'm getting ripped off. This is not a concern that I have with Jim at True Auto Repair, and I will bring my car back to him the next time I need service. read more

Suffered all Summer without AC My 17 year old Benz stopped pumping cold air through the main vents in the dash-- only through the defrosting vents along the windshield. All that did was cool the glass, and heat up the AC air as it found it way into the cabin. I put this repair off all summer, because I was really expecting an expensive fix to the vacuum system that opens the vents for AC across the dash. My wife and I are new to Florida, so on a recommendation from my neighbor I took it to True Auto Repair not far from my home. The owner Jim directed me to roll it up to one of his three bays, then stop. I got out and he said let me just look real quick and see if I can find something obvious. Who knows, we might get lucky. In less than two minutes Jim found a dangling wire deep in the engine bay with his flash light. Then the spot where it needed to be plugged into. He asked me to start her up to see if works now. YIKES! Fixed in under 5 minutes for the low, low price of...NOTHING! Jim said it's nice when things work out like that. I couldn't agree more. But I bet I know what you're thinking. Some, maybe most repair shops would have kept that dangling wire to themselves and told me to roll it on in, and they'll call when find the problem. So my car has been making an awful clunking noise recently. I took it to a local shop which has a great reputation. I was told that the cost for the immediate problem was just over $1000. There were another $1500 in repairs needed after that. I was basically given the impression that not getting the $2500 in repairs would somehow end in my fiery death behind the wheel. So, seeking a second opinion I followed the advice of my mom who works out at the VA, and the advice of many of her co-workers and went to Jim at True Auto. Jim was great. I first went to a place in Madeira Beach that not only screwed up the schedule so when I dropped the car off they couldn't get me in the day I was supposed to, they then told me how they had to run a diagnostic test before they could do anything else. I felt it was a simple headlight issue, but they wouldn't listen. I then went to the Jag dealer in the area and was told again they would also have to do a $350 diagnostic test to find out what was wrong with it without listening to what I thought the problem was. Again I asked can you just please look at the headlights first. So after doing some online research I saw True Auto Repair had some positive reviews. I called and asked to speak to the owner which was the gentleman who actually answered the phone. I told him what I expected the problem was and that if he could just listen to me and start with the most likely problem first. He agreed with my thought process and guess what. Simple two headlights out and fixed for $130. Shockingly with common sense and without expensive diagnostic test as suggested by the other jackwagons.
