We received quotes that were about $800 from local auto service centers in Southern VA. I spoke to Jeff at Bernies Auto Service and he provided a fair price that was below other service stations in the area. After looking at the car, Jeff said that the sway bars also needed to be replaced so that added about $200 (parts and labor) to the cost but still the final cost was still below the other quotes I received that did not include new sway bars. He's not afraid to take on challenges - I have a 2009 Saturn Vue Hybrid- most mechanic shops around here won't even change a tire or replace wiper blades - the minute you say it's a hybrid - which is so annoying. They are eager to take your vehicle, but then can't find the time to work on it. They had my vehicle over a month and managed to fix 1 of 3 issues. They can only fix simple problems. They also had another of my vehicles for 3 weeks and did nothing. Just storage! They do not call to update and are as equally unresponsive when I call them. I took my new antique 1998 boxster 54K miles to have them look her over. No problems she had hesitations. When I left she bucked and I had to restart her. I figured it was new spark plugs. I took her on a trip it continued. I just took her in now they are telling they want to do a smoke test to see if there is a leak? Don't ask me the price... ???I also said my door is temperamental and sometime locks and sometimes does not. Well, that came back at of $2,5K alright no car so far for they did not do any diagnostics till that Friday you had her Wens, Thurs and now late Friday. We know they do not work weekends. Quess what my windows will not go down now. Mo the service Manager and Corrine kept telling me you know she is an antique. BULLShit everything was fine and now I have to use a key to lock to unlocks her and I can not lower the windows or lower the convertible top without doors opened? Mr. Mo the Service Manger is telling me they never touched my door panel ?????? REALLY please and then told me they have too much business and that is why they cannot get to me in a reasonable amount of time! He thinks I cannot buy a new one Porsche??? He needs to look into his customers better I love anitques!!! Do not talk down to women or their husband that have owned two Porsches!!! Based on the Yelp reviews I read, I took my 2018 Honda CR-V to Bernie's to see about getting the front passenger seat repaired. The seat back was frozen in the full down position. I took it a major St. Petersburg Honda dealer and was quoted $2,574 for a new seat frame. Plus, another $185 for a brake fluid flush and exchange. I decided to get another quote and went to Bernie's. They repaired the seat, that required a new seat frame (one of the motors had failed), and took the existing leather off of the old seat frame and put it on the new one! So I had a perfect interior color match. In addition, they did the brake flush and also rotated and balanced the tires. The total cost: $1,075. Quite a saving over the dealership's quote. Jeff did a great job of working through this pretty complicated and labor intensive project, and keeping me up-to-date. My 2 cars will be going to Bernie's from now on when repairs are needed! Brought my car to Bernie's for an old change, asked him to check for leaks. He stated there were no leaks. Drove home, about 1/2 mile, saw antifreeze in my driveway the next day. I assumed it was overflow from fluids being topped off. Turns out, my radiator sprung a leak, right after the oil change. . Called Bernie's and inquired how this could happen, he just said , your car is old. The point is, it may be old, but I did not have a radiator issue before the oil change, just right after. Had them put a new radiator in, for $750.00. Not happy about the way this played out. read more

Nobody likes car problems nor, dealing with shady mechanics. Bernie's is the place to go if you want your car repaired correctly without breaking the bank. Honest repair shops are few and far between especially when it comes to vehicles. We need them to efficiently get us from A to B and when they break, it really sucks. Bill at Bernie's is the nicest and most easy going honest mechanic, I have met in quite sometime. I have several senior lady friends that use him, too. No price gouging here. In fact he usually quotes with both the lesser priced and the better quality parts, so you have the option to save a few extra dollars when money is tight. I've been going to Bernie's Auto for 14+ years for everything from oil changes and tires to a complete engine replacement. (I'm not sure who Bernie is... Bill Spradlin is the owner). He's the one of the most honest mechanics I've ever come across. How many shops will call when your car is ready and tell you "turns out the repair was $90 LESS than I estimated"? Seriously. He doesn't hard-sell you on ANYTHING. I've never waited more than ONE DAY for a repair unless he couldn't get a part right away and that's only happened once. I brought my older Jeep Commander in and gave Bill a laundry list of things that were known to have issues, and several that were possible issues, some minor, some VERY major. I even called Bill a few times after dropping my Jeep off to add to the laundry list of services and things I needed checked. I fully expected there to be a lot of work done, a lot of time put into it, and I fully expected a bill of well over $2000, maybe even over $3000. Not only did they do outstanding work, but Bill called me and let me know that many of the things I had listed were not issues at all, or required a very minimal fix that they didn't even charge me for.
