"Bring it in, we'll check it out" Had a persistent squeeking noise coming from the right rear (passenger side) of the car. 10 minutes later, in the shop on the lift. (2nd shop that looked at it). 35-40 minutes later CustomerService Rep came out, said they didn't find anything. but showed me a big gash in the rim inside of the the wheel, and a few dings on the frame/cross member and decent dig into muffler. Probably spent an hour or so checking it out and no one could find anything that could have caused the squeeking. Older mechanic with a long Red/White/Blue died beard came over as we were looking it over, "oh, here ya go" he found it the issue in less than 1 minute. Don't ya just love patriots? :) Apparenlty the "bolder or hunk of metal" I hit doing 75MPH clipped off the frame/cross member, hit the bolt housing that controlled the tow of the right rear tire. First they got the "big boy" prybar out, (didn't work), then got the air hammer out, and pryed the metal at the end of the crossmember away from the hinge arm that adjusts the tow of the wheel/tire. -0- charge :) Left with a big smile on my face, and decided to drop by the ATM, pulled out a quick $20 drove back to shop, and gave it to the Patriot for a tip. Horrible experience! I brought my car in because I needed a new tire before heading out. They told…read moreme they had the tire I needed and that it would take about 30 minutes since the technician was finishing an oil change. I even asked upfront if it would take long because another shop had the same tire and could do it immediately. They reassured me it wouldn't be a problem. I walked around for 45 minutes, came back, and my car was still sitting in the exact same spot. When I asked about it, the guy went to the back to "check" and came out saying they were working on it. I told him my car was still parked right out front -- then he goes, "Oh, my bad, he's working on another white Honda." Someone then quickly came out, moved my car to the back, probably because I was standing right there watching. I got a text at 2:29 saying I could track the service, and they didn't finish until 4 PM. If they had just told me from the start that it would take 1.5 hours, I wouldn't have complained -- I would've gone to the other shop instead.

He went back into the store and got the correct battery and "installed" it. A day later, I was at work and my car died! My radio short circuited, and I was left with no lights, or flashers! I had to call AAA for a tow. They towed it to my very reputable garage and they let me know the BATTERY WAS INSTALLED WRONG! This caused my alternator to blow out! I had to shell out $600 to fix my car! I've gone here for battery replacements before and NEVER had an issue until this happened! It's clear some of the staff need trained!!! I trusted them to do a simple battery replacement and they caused me more problems! As a single woman, I trusted the staff to know how to do their job! NEVER AGAIN! I only went there because in the past I had no issues and my garage couldn't get me in sooner! Do yourself a favor, and take your car to Graham's Exxon instead! They know what they're doing, will take good care of your vehicle, and won't take advantage of you! Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO ADVANCED AUTO ON BENNER PIKE!!!

While driving back to Chicago from New York I experienced car problems at 2am. I got off at…read moreBellefonte and got a hotel for the night. In the morning I googled auto repair and headed to Fouty Chalfa. I explained the misfire I was experiencing, chugging (like water in gas) and told them how far away I was. He said he would read the codes (I will always bring mine with next time) and see what it said. It came back with a "misfire" (plug, wire or coil) and cam position sensor. The owner stated either one could of tripped the other and he wouldn't know until he changed a part to see if it fixed it or not. He recommended the cam sensor first, I agreed as I had changed th cap rotor wires and plugs 15k earlier. He said he could get one and it would be $115. I really wasn't in a position to bargain shop lol so I said go ahead and get it done, they had it installed in about 40 minutes and I was on the road home soon after. When I went to pay, I wasn't sure if labor was included (I know how much a cam sensor is for a caravan) when he shot me a he price. I was pleasantly surprised that the $115 was parts and labor. He made a few bucks on the part (as all shops charge exuberant prices on parts, I usually do all my own work) but was more than fair. In all they did a great job, highly recommend.

Nick had previously resealed the transmission pan on my Subaru (it was leaking before when I had tried to seal it myself with an anaerobic sealant). So he fixed it, but it started leaking again. It's a known flawed design from Subaru (the pan doesn't use a gasket but just mates metal to metal) and so it's a common issue with subarus. Anyway, Josh tried to gaslight me and tell me that the leak was actually coming from the output shaft seal because "the wind was pushing the oil leak down and making it look like the pan was leaking." In reality, he just didn't want to redo the repair because it would cost him time x money on his own dime + expensive CVT fluid. He thought he could just gaslight me about what was happening as a solo female and I'd just pay up. Well, I didn't take his bs bait. This is exactly why I started doing my own repairs on my car because you can't trust these dudes. At the very least, Josh could've tried to work with me instead of starting an argument, like say "I can see why you'd think that and we can repair xyz at discounted rate and if the transmission pan is still leaking then we'll replace that on the house." You're not very good with zero customer service skills.

I've been in State College for about a year now. Whenever I need a tune-up, I go to my guy back…read morehome, so I never really had a reason to find an auto shop up in PA. Lo and behold, my AC decides to crap out during this hot, hot summer. A friend suggested a mom and pop shop near campus. After giving them a call, I was informed that they did not work on AC units. I then asked if there was any shop in the area they could suggest. The gentleman on the other line recommended Sharer's Automotive. I immediately gave them a call. The receptionist, Tracy, was so helpful and sweet. Thankfully, I was able to schedule an appointment for the same day (or else I would've had to drive back home to Maryland in the scorching heat!). Jared, the owner and mechanic, explained to me what was potentially happening with my car. He informed me that to know for sure whether or not there was a leak, he would need to place a special dye in the system. Jared flushed out the AC system and added refrigerant. I then scheduled a follow-up. I went back yesterday to have my AC checked. Jared found some minor leaks and gave me a pair of neon yellow glasses to see for myself (which was pretty cool, I might add!). Oftentimes, mechanics may push for unnecessary repairs and upsells. However, I am pleased to tell you that this was not the case at Sharer's Automotive. Jared was very honest, and the prices were fair. I'm delighted to have found this garage!
