Made an appointment for a blow out and trim and they only gave me a blow out (I was trusting the process and did not realize that they didn't trim my hair until she started blowing it out). They said they forgot and said to come back another time for a trim (I would still have to pay full price for the "make up" appt even though it was a mistake on their part). The blowout was HORRIBLE btw. Like it was noticeably bad. Unless you pay extra money for a more experienced stylist, they will completely mess up your hair. Not to mention they do a bad job but are double the price of good hair salons. Go to "With style and Grace" in Raritan, they do great. read more

She knew I was pressed for time and promised we would be on time.. I was immediately greeted upon arrival and assigned to Shannon who fixed my daughters hair along with Kim.. I now know better than to think a haircut here was too pricey. I hadn't cut my hair since my last cut with James because I was really trying to get it to grow. But when the holidays were rolling around I def needed a trim. Tru is closed on Mondays and that's the only day I had before thanksgiving so I ended up going to a different salon all together (craft in basking ridge). I paid NINETY-FIVE dollars and the cut was so bad and so boxy and choppy. I didn't realize at the time (although I felt when I ran my hands through my hair) that it was very blunt, not what I asked for. I went through thanksgiving, and Christmas, and vacation with that terrible cut. Even a blow out didn't help. Anyway, I finally made it back to James and he had to fix it. I could tell immediately the vast improvement James was making. So glad he fixed it. Now I have to go back to letting it grow out but I will never let anyone else cut my hair. read more

I used a Groupon certificate to try out this place. It was a great experience. It's spacious, clean and very modern-looking. Everyone treated me very nicely. My hairdresser was Alli who gave me the perfect cut and style after months of letting my hair go. She wasn't pushy about purchasing any of their products but made some general recommendations based on the type of hair/lifestyle I have. The senior stylist explained that the salon is not equipped with "proper tools" and "does not have the bandwidth" to provide me with service. After explaining that I use a blow dryer and brush - I was left confused about other tools that would be needed. I decided to get my first facial at TRU Salon. I scheduled my appointment with Shannon. She was very knowledgeable and was able to choose products that would work with my type of skin (oily and sensitive). She walked me through all the products being applied and was very professional. I loved that she took the time massaging my face with each product applied and made it an extremely relaxing experience for me. I noticed she washed her hands before touching my face and between facial and hand massages (I am nurse and germophobe!). TRU Salon was impeccable! Very clean; something I always look for!! I've always been scared to go to hair salons because of bad haircuts in my past - but Tru salon has been excellent both times I've gone for haircuts. They never cut off more than you ask for which is a big PLUS since I know many women are afraid of that happening! On the atmosphere, they treat you with star service from the moment you walk in, offering you something drink while you wait to be called back, everyone is always smiling and super friendly. It's nice to be greeted by people who are happy to work there. The salon is beautiful and clean. I will never switch salons although I do plan on checking out their Branchburg location! read more

Think again, because James invariably seems to be able to do anything. I can't even believe how much I love my hair when he is done with it. Today I walked in and told him "I want Dakota Johnson hair" and "I want to walk around in Paris and blend in"--no pics, no nothing. And somehow this superhuman makes it happen. Is he a wizard? Victor is the man! He is very informative and knows how to cut hair. I'm usually the type to just go get my hair buzzed skin tight but been lazy the past couple months and let it grow out. It was a mess with no type of form whatsoever. But I gave him a picture of what I thought could be done to my mop of a head and he perfected it. I have been going to this salon for a few months and had great hair cutting experience there however I decided to get a color at my last appointment and I was very disappointed. Color was not added correctly it was botchy and orange. And they charged me a fortune I had to go to another salon which was recommended to me and they fixed my hair added more color and now it looks like what I wanted! Went to get a hair cut after more than 6 mths. I met with Victor, who was very friendly and accommodating from the start. He did a consult, offered his honest opinion based on the photos I presented, and proceeded to wash and cut. It was an enjoyable visit and I like how it turned out. On recommendation from a friend who lives in the area I went to Tru for a blowout on a really rainy morning right before a meeting I had in the area. I wish I remembered the name of the girl who did my blowout because she was great. The salon itself is very hip and clean. The girl at the front desk was very friendly and told me about other services the salon offers. I would definitely go back to Tru if I lived in the area, or if I am ever in dire need of a service while in Warren like I was on that day. read more

I was sent here on behalf of a friends recommendation for an emergency fix. I had a mishap with a brush which was stuck so tightly in my hair that I could not remove it and I was on my way to a wedding. They took me right away on a Sunday and Cassie spent 2.5 hours trying to remove the barrel brush from my head. She did he best to keep me hopeful and comfortable as she picked away. I knew it was going to have to be cut out at a certain point because we just couldn't get some of it from the base. James took over and cut the brush out and managed to salvage quite a bit. I thought I was going to have to rock a pixie haircut buzzed on the sides and he managed to give me a great graduated bob. The shorter pieces blend fairly well. After an almost 4 hour ordeal they didn't even want to charge me. I can't thank the staff enough for saving my hair and treating myself and fiancé so well. We are writing this review because the fabulous TRU Salon & Spa just acquired a hairstylist, Kathy Morris, who comes with an equally fabulous reputation. Well, we want all to know that we went to TRU and had Kathy do our hair as husband and wife, the TRUth is that the Salon and Kathy definitely exceeded our expectations! The minute we arrived we were warmly greeted by the manager Debbie, offered refreshments, and given a tour of the salon and spa which made us feel like we've been customers for years. The rest of the staff is very friendly and professional. The salon and spa are spotlessly clean, and also offers a gorgeous array of accessories as well as everything you could possibly need for your haircare to purchase. Impressed by the punctuality of our appointment times, we cannot say enough about this TRUly great place. It rivals all salons, as well as the chicest in Manhattan.
