The storefront pulled me in immediately--sweet smell, gorgeous display, total "take my money" vibes. Everything looked stunning. The Turkish delights were basically edible art with petals, pistachios, and vibrant colors. And the baklava? Sitting there like it knew it was about to win. Unfortunately... looks were doing all the heavy lifting. Spent $28 on six small pieces and walked out excited--only to be let down. The Turkish delight tasted overly artificial, almost perfumey in a bad way. The marshmallow rolls had a weird paste-like texture. Baklava was fine, but nothing special. Also, the packaging? A struggle to close and somehow managed to give me a legit paper cut. Love that for me. Great location, beautiful presentation--but the taste just doesn't justify the price. Pretty, but meh.
Huge variety! The one gentleman was nice and offered a sample. The place was packed so people seemed to love it. We got two boxes to share and try. They were gone before the night ended. The store had lots to see. Huge storefront with cool things and places to sit small but still a place to sit.
I was walking around the area with my family when we spotted Troya on our hunt for coffee. They kindly offered samples of the pastries and sweets, many of which were so good! We had no issues with the workers, they were patient and helped us figure out what we would enjoy. The inside is beautiful and I'd recommend dropping by to check out all their treats!
Panoramic display of Turkish Delights down the store on both sides. I'm used to paying the same amount for much more baklava so the sweet treats didn't interest me that much here but there are a lot to choose from. We were here for the Turkish coffee which I had before, maybe with more milk/cream because the creamy coffees ($6) here were sour and bitter. The creamy cardamom to me was just nasty, like herbal medicine. He enjoyed his creamy hazelnut which didn't taste that much better to me. You can see the coffee grounds sitting in a layer at the bottom of the tiny cup.
This is it. Varied and various choices to indulge from. Staff was able to help me curate a half dozen of their classics. I was lucky and he also let me try the dried fruit candy and it was the best. They offer boxes of all different sizes and styles so you can take back a gift. You cannot leave without bakalava, i was able to enjoy some with ice cream ghardelli and it made for an amazing combo. Just stop by before your aquarium trip or walk to the beach. Parking is abysmal but if youre able to walk by you have to take some home. There are seating options but they are rather tight but quite the experience considering the vast decor.
Every time I come to Monterey, I have to visit this place. Their Turkish delights are exactly like the ones I had when I visited Turkey. I searched everywhere for that distinct flavor and I have only found it here. They have recently expanded the store, and now it's like a true Turkish bazaar. Service is great, especially Hussein, he has always been extremely helpful. You can sample the delights to find which ones you love. Lots of flavors to choose from.
Friendly customer service, free small samples They have the Dubai chocolate and some some pastries but the Turkish Delight is my favorite especially the the Rose pedal with pistachios the Saffron roll is very good also worth the price. The place is beautiful with lots of colorful Turkish Chandeliers.
From the moment we walked in, the hosts were friendly, inviting, and genuinely happy to have us there. We were encouraged to taste several halwa options, which immediately set the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable visit. A special shoutout to Zainab, who helped us big time during our visit. She was incredibly patient with our tasting requests and took the time to walk us through a wide variety of sweets, explaining the differences and helping us find what suited our taste best. There was absolutely no rush, just thoughtful guidance and great hospitality. We eventually settled on a couple of baklava varieties along with Turkish delights filled with nuts, and everything we picked was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. If you're in Monterey and have a sweet tooth (or even if you don't), this spot is definitely worth a visit.
I was out exploring Cannery Row and decided to pop in to Troya. Troya is a Turkish cafe offering traditional coffee, pastries, and more. The store is bright and colorful, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I love baklava, so I immediately gravitated towards their different baklava options. I went with the most original looking one. The slices are big, so I only opted for one slice. I brought it back to our hotel to share with my husband later that evening. It was delicious! Perfectly flaky and not too sweet. Though they're great for sharing, I kind of wished I got two slices!
So this is definitely a tourist trap. Do you like traps? Up to you right? I did get some samples. And the samples were good enough for me to spend $25. So the little square cubes of plain Turkish Delights were quite delish. It's quite quite the soft chewy gooey texture. It's a bit more thick and richer than other cheap ones where the texture feels more gummy or gelatinous. When I inquired about the ingredients, they said that they used molasses. I see why and how Edmund fell to Turkish Delights. I also got the other more fancy TDs that had other ingredients including pomegranate and marshmallows (separate, not together). They also served Turkish coffees with fancy cups. I should have gotten it. But I didn't. Maybe it's bc I knew this was a tourist trap and I was only willing to be trapped by the TDs like Edmund. But there were others including Turks whom patron the coffee. My friend commented that this place was more expensive than another Turkish store. But it is what it is. And you get what you get. The store was super clean, lots of nice wares, nice decoration, full of friendly staff and a good amount of samples. B++
I've been coming here for years, at least once a year, and Troya is still my must-stop spot for Turkish delights and coffee. The lokum are excellent -- the green pistachio roll and the dark cocoa/black roll are absolute classics. Other newer flavors are fun too, but those two are my staples. The owner is generous with samples -- not tiny bites, but big pieces -- so you can really taste before you buy. Even though I'm not big on sweets, I always end up leaving with a box (or two) to enjoy slowly at home. The Turkish coffee here is the highlight. I usually brew mine with Najjar Green using a traditional cezve, bringing it up and down three times to get the proper thickness and cardamom punch. Too many cafes only do one boil, which makes it thin and flat. Here, the coffee is rich, aromatic, and full-bodied -- just like how my Middle Eastern friends make it at home. I've never been to the Middle East myself, but stepping into this shop -- with the lamps, colors, and atmosphere -- really feels like being transported there. Hands down, the best Turkish coffee I've had in the Bay Area. Maybe LA has more options, but until I try them, this remains my gold standard. -- Dr. C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.
Service was very friendly when we stepped in to check it out. We were offered sampling. The decoration of tiles floor and a beautiful chandelier style head light captured my gaze. The Turkish delights at the counter display were also eye candies.
We loved every bite we had at Troya. The pomegranate tea was on another level, so refreshing and flavorful, and the baklava was absolutely delicious. Everything tasted fresh and well made. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
I fell in love with this Turkish shop and next-door dessert cafe. There were so many beautiful treats on display it was hard to choose. The kind staff offered me a sample of Double Pistachio with Pomegranate and I was sold. I immediately bought a half pound! They even cut it into serving size slices for me. I wish I'd tried more kinds. The quality and flavors are out of this world! I'll be ordering some more online I'm sure! read more

Huge range of choices and they offer samples so you get exactly what you want. I was so focused on choosing from the beautiful display that I didn't even notice it was a cafe the first time I was there. The pistachio brownie hazelnut ones are may fave. We've also ordered from here and it got to us here in CA in less than a week. read more

This is such an amazing beautiful desert store. In all my life of loving disneys aladdin and any arabian folk tale I loved. This store has it all.to enjoy those sweet delicate sensations to your mouth. The texture felt wonderous while the sensations is highly imaginative. The offer samples to it's customers since not many are familiar with it. It is difficult for myself to enjoy what it looks like because the price is more than double of its value worth then chocolate. The moment inhad one of theirnsample tastes, it felt unlike any other i have dreamed of. The staff was nice, the atmosphere was amazing and I wish I could've enjoyed it and savor it. The only problem I have was comming at a time when my alergies kicked in during spring break. I can taste it's wonders but it wasn't enough ;_; The price is expensive but the weight of it all is worth it Hope to come back when I get better because this is such a treasured store to love. read more

Let's be honest, I didnt go to Monterey for this place Troya with a sign of Turkish Coffee. We walked down Cannery Row and my husband wanted a cup of coffee. If you ever need one, just go to Starbucks. Total rip off! When we first walked in, this older women who seemed to be owner or wife owner of this place gave us a little sample. My husband asked for a cup of coffee and she was trying to get us to buy something, no harm no foul. She was advertising the Turkish coffee and how rich and tasteful it was. Tell me why there ISNT a sample of the cup size of cup of 4oz when you purchase a Turkish coffee! Total rip off, if you see how tiny the cup is for a total of 6.00 plus take comes out to like $7.80 for a freakin 4oz cup. On the menu, they only have a sample cup size of the regular cup of coffee that makes a customer believe you will receive that size, it's sneaky. The freaking Turkish coffee is way more than a Starbucks cup of coffee or any other small cup of that matter. We were tricked to think we ordered a 12 ounce cup of coffee bc they had it displayed on the menu. I would be 12 ounces for pay $6.00 for a good coffee. Even other coffee spots aren't that expensive! After we complaint and didn't even try the Turkish coffee, we asked why there wasn't a sample cup size for display of the small 4oz. I asked an entitled young employee who seems to be the daughter of the owner of the coffee shop. She was not willing to help us refund and said we already purchased it and couldn't get our money back. I complaint how ridiculous crazy it is, she didn't seem to care and said that a going rate for the rich coffee. They want business but they're doing it all wrong by not being up front with their customers. You must know before ordering the Turkish coffee! read more

After being sick over the holidays our family made it out to Monterey for some overdue family fun. Dropped by Troy's after dinner and was pleasantly surprised by what we saw- a vibrant shop full of pastries and sweets, teas, pots for sale, and of course coffee. We ended up leaving with some sweet treats and I picked up a cup of cardamom coffee for our walk back to the hotel. Didn't get a chance to try their delights but we will be back! This little Turkish Coffee and Desert cafe is great. They have a coffee bar with 3 seats and a few small tables. The ceiling lamp is a piece of art. Got the some Pistachio Baklavas, that had to be one of the best desert I've ever had. Not too sweet!! Perfectly made. The Turkish Coffee was very strong and tasty. If you're in Monterey on Cannery Row, it's a must try!!! read more

This is a true Turkish Delight! Tons of different flavor profiles of lokma! They serve coffee and chai as well. The owner is friendly and welcoming. The staff work quickly, even when busy. It's a small, but functional, space where a lot happens! read more
It was my first time visiting AOR~ and I'm so sad it's not close to home! This is definitely a place I'd love to visit frequently, but it looks like I'll stop by every time i get the chance since their Turkish delights are amazing & pastries !!! The service was great & i love that they offer samples & they seem endless TBH. I only purchased chocolate/pistacho baklava, honey walnut baklava, walnut baklava & pistachio baklava. I can honestly say it was reallly really yummy, but not the best chocolate pistachio baklava I've had & it's already incredibly hard to find, especially fresh & authentic kind. It could be because they are previously baked a week ahead & then frozen until they put out a new batch. Luckily, they're still pretty fresh & don't lack in taste! So glad to have discovered this place on Cannery Row in Monterey. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and quick to offer samples of the yummy treats. They have such a huge selection! I highly recommend the Dubai chocolate cake, which was extremely good! I also enjoyed the chocolate baklava and halva. There is a nice atmospheric seating area in the back but most people order for takeout. This will be a regular stop for us whenever we're in the area. read more
To start this post off... my boyfriend and I went here 3 times within our trip (we were there for three days, so everyday) and bought multiple boxes! The Turkish delights were super good, my favorite were the blueberry and Dubai chocolate flavors! The staff there were super nice and very helpful with variety of samples and recommendations! The baklava is defiantly the best this there and one of the reasons why I had to keep going back! I didn't get pictures of the inside but it is so beautiful with the artistic lamps hanging and great ambiance! Will always come back to this spot whenever we're in Monterey and will be ordering from them to ship to own home as well! read more
Stopped by for some baklava, ended up buying more than just the baklava. I thought pistachio baklava was my favorite, but the walnut baklava here is actually my favorite. Also got the kudaifi and tried some Turkish delights while in store. None were overly sweet and perfectly satisfying. Next time, we'll have to stay for a cup of coffee and tea. read more

Hubby wanted Turkish coffee so we stopped by this little shop on cannery row. The Turkish delights were so stunning!! And all imported from Turkey. We grabbed some for my Dad in a box to go. Ordered a couple of Turkish coffees which if you've never tried it, they're small and strong. They have several types of baklava and halva as well. Ambiance was stunning with the lanterns. It was relaxing to just hang out there. read more
Expensive for the food and stuff that they're offering. Their Turkish delight is $35/lb which is basically a bit over a dollar a piece. Their baklava is $4-6 a piece which is also expensive. The Turkish coffee isn't made through the expected Turkish way with sand that's heated but they do sell the container that it's supposed to be made in. I was left disappointed read more

Troya is a beautiful Turkish dessert shop on Cannery Row. I was drawn in by the beautiful decor. The service was friendly and we were offered samples of the Turkish delight. There were rows and rows of different flavors plus another area of baklavas. I love pistachios and left with some baklavas and my husband couldn't resist getting some Turkish Delight. Beautiful shop with unique desserts and I recommend Troya if you're in the area! read more

A $12 wedge of pistachio or walnut baklava will take up half of their box. I had not yet read the tip that the baklava was imported from Turkey, so it felt that was being charged tourist prices ($3-5 for a square) I liked lemon hazelnut as well as pomegranate, but I was here for coffee and baklava. I prefer cream and chocolate coffee because a cup of the original is still bitter with a spoonful of sugar, you just have to get used to the strength of Turkish coffee. They will cut samples of Turkish delight for tasting. read more
We stopped in to check out the plethora of Turkish delights and was so overwhelmed. The staff was helpful and friendly and even let us sample a few items which we were appreciative of. We ended up getting a few marshmallow rolls (sold by slice) and baklava. They were all pretty good. The best baklava we have ever had, we devoured them. Highly recommend this place if in Monterey to support this small business and try the best baklava ever. read more

Confectionery perfection! I have never seen such a beautifully decorated dessert shop in my entire life. This specialty sweets shop (mainly for baklavas and Turkish delights) was such a treat to look at while we were shopping in the famous Cannery Row in Monterey last week. Turkish tiles on the floor, Turkish lights on the ceiling. And a display of umpteenth number of Turkish Delight rolls and Baklavas will quickly steal your heart once you've entered the store. You can get samples of whatever rolls that catch your eyes, but you don't even know where to start. The guy behind the counter was generous enough to give me more than several different samples. They all tasted good so he stuffed two-inch size of four different kinds into the smallest box I could get. A little over of a pound of four different Turkish Delights came to $36 with a change. Well, this ain't cheap but the quality is guaranteed. Even if you don't think you'll buy any, just step in to see how beautiful the entire store is. It's like gemstones spilled from a treasure box. I didn't get any of the beverages though. I wish I did. If I'm in town next time, I'll definitely sit down and have a cup of Turkish coffee with a few different types of Turkish Delight and/or Baklava to enjoy my little afternoon. Super Delicious Sweets! I come here every weekend if not every week with my family and we enjoy stopping by to grab a tea and sweets, Everyone is so welcoming and nice! If I ever have any questions on any particular flavor or what it may taste like depending on the sweet they give there honest feedback and let you try so you can see if you like or not before purchasing :)) If anyone is every in the Monterey area I definitely recommend swinging by and trying these delicious sweets! read more

A must-visit spot when hanging out on Cannery Row. Really friendly crew and a feast for your eyes everywhere you look in the store. They were very nice and obliged us with samples of every kind of Turkish delight we ordered slices of. If you have questions, feel free to ask as they are happy to answer. We also ordered a Turkish coffee and red apple tea which we drank at one of their window tables as people walked by outside. read more

First time trying Turkish Coffee and Tea ^.^ The ambiance is warm and homey. Lots of colorful decor. Sam assisted us and was super friendly. I asked him for a menu and he said, "I'm the menu" and he definitely was. If not, better! Haha He went through all their beverage options, describing flavors and sharing general info. The coffee was strong but good! The Rose Tea was my fav between the two. A bit on the sweeter side but still really good. Eating the little rose petals floating at the top was my favorite part. It taste better than it sounds, I promise! We got to try a few yummy Turkish delights, courtesy of Sam. Tyty! Really pleasant experience, through and through. Everything tasted great and Sam played a big part of the memorable first experience. Hope to be back soon! read more
My husband and I were walking down cannery row and stopped by this cute little Turkish shop. Ambiance here is so warm and cozy. We ordered a Turkish coffee (which was $6 for a teeny shot like cup, so it is pricey). This was my first time having a Turkish coffee and let me tell you, it's STRONG. I can see why the coffee cup is smaller than your average cup of joe. I'd say this probably isn't for everybody and you'd probably have to be a black coffee drinker as is to enjoy this, but I thought that it was decent! Outside of coffee, they also offer a ton of Turkish pastries here in different flavors. Service here was friendly and we were offered a sample of a pastry of our choosing, which was really nice of them. The pastry was delicious and unlike anything I've tried, so I'd recommend it! read more

Are the baklava vegan, or do they have honey?
You can find detailed list of ingredients for each of their products on their website: https://troyamry.com/Products . Looks like most of them contain honey or cream thus not vegan.
Are the turkish delight vegan?
Real lokum is completely vegan; it's made with cornflour - there really is no need to add gelatine, especially as doing so would render it non-vegetarian, much less vegan.
