Niko has a history of seizures, and he had a small episode while he was there. The facility called to say they were not comfortable keeping him and that she needed to find alternate arrangements. My mother was already overwhelmed with her own health issues, and the added stress of finding a safe place for Niko was heartbreaking. I immediately called PSR, and they were just as incredible as I remembered. I spoke with Lace--who also worked at the Inkster location and even remembered my long‑lost baby Bella. She went out of her way to pick up Niko herself and made sure he had a safe, secure, loving place to stay. My gratitude for PSR runs deeper than words. They have always been the place I call "home" for my babies, and they proved once again why. "Thank you" will never feel like enough.

This place is very big and has multiple areas for various sized dogs. Each area has it own playground which allows your dog to get extra exercise if they wish. Hounds Town is very clean and up-to-date. It's basically a brand new facility. The staff keeps you updated with videos and pictures on Facebook during the day to see your dogs activity. Your dog will love this place and come home feeling fresh and plenty tired from playing with all the dogs.

This was around 9am and we were the only people there other than the staff - which we only saw 2 people. While our dog was getting evaluated and we filled out paperwork, I was observing the dog play area. There were 2 piles of poop in there when we arrived. I don't know how long they'd been there already. But 20 minutes later as we were getting ready to leave, those 2 piles had turned into at least 4 piles (that I could see). Nobody appeared to been observing the dogs let alone cleaning up after them. I asked the person at the front desk (asst. mgr?) about cleanup and he didn't seem at all concerned. He basically said someone comes around once in a while to clean up. Thankfully, my dog is not a poop eater - although I've had dogs in the past that were - and I can understand sometimes it may take a few minutes to get to cleanup. But this was just nasty. I wanted to like this place because our dog loves to play and is very spirited with other dogs. This chain seems to have a philosophy of letting dogs be dogs and regulate their own play unless things get out of hand. I think that's ideal as long as the dogs are screened first and are being monitored so someone can step in quickly if needed. I was just not confident that would happen here. The last straw for me was when my dog passed the evaluation but the staff member talked about sometimes using "corrections" with dogs. I am a believer in force-free training (positive reinforcement), and I understand there might need to be exceptions needed for emergencies when dogs must be separated quickly, but I'm just not ok with strange men giving my 16 pound dog a "correction" of any kind. Google the term if you want to know what it might mean, or better yet ask Hounds Town and make sure you're comfortable with it. They don't have live camera feeds available like some other places, so you are putting your trust in them, and if this was how things when down when they had a first time potential client, I can't imagine how much worse things might be at other times. We have tried 4 local places and still feel I haven't found the ideal doggie day care / boarding place. There have been a couple of acceptable ones, but this one would be a last resort for us.

He was dropped off at PetSmart for a bath, full haircut, and flea & tick treatment. Instead, he ended up needing a vet visit, three bottles of medication, and topical medication. We let them know ahead of time that his skin was irritating him, and the groomer even saw him irritated and trying to get to it while we were in the lobby. Yet during his appointment, he was left unattended and somehow managed to do the damage shown below. We were told, "We left him alone for 5 minutes." Respectfully, we have a hard time believing this happened in only 5 minutes. The bottom line is that he was left unattended long enough for this to happen, and he absolutely did NOT have this condition when we dropped him off. We weren't notified until after PetSmart had taken him to the vet. When we spoke with the vet later that day, we were told PetSmart provided no explanation as to why our dog was brought in in the condition he was. I've heard the horror stories about PetSmart grooming, but I never thought I'd experience one myself. At this point, I genuinely feel like I would've been better off doing everything myself. The picture below shows what he apparently did to himself in "5 minutes." Completely unacceptable.

After the first experience with each of the other boarding facilities, our dog could not get out of the facility fast enough - and most of the time, he would refuse to go back inside the facility and would not let us leave us for the second boarding. We don't have that problem here. I fully trust my dog's intuition, and I fully trust the staff at AAPR-Royal Oak. We board several times a year - sometimes for a weekend, and every now and then for a full week. It doesn't matter how much time has passed in between visits, each time we show up for boarding we are greeted by the same handful of smiling faces, and they are always so excited to see our pup. And more importantly - he's excited to see them too. We only board overnight (with the daytime play of course), so I can't speak to any of the other available services. And our dog does not require any additional special treatment or services, so I can't speak to that either. I do wish that they were a little more consistent with the after boarding report cards that they send out electronically. It's always nice to get a little more detailed feedback about how boarding went. There are a few specific people who will take that extra few minutes to give us a quick recap if they're the ones bringing him out to us at the end of the stay, and for that I am so so grateful. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my dog here, nor would I hesitate to recommend AAPR- Royal Oak to friends and family.
