We have used TROSA for four years. They are polite and easy to work with. Each crew has a no-nonsense boss. Their service includes trimming shrubs, fertilizing, aerating, leaf raking. TROSA hauls away all the debris. They provide and spread mulch every Spring. Most important, my wife and I get to know the workers and encourage and support them in their rehab program. Eventually after another several no-shows in the beginning I called and explained how frustrating this treatment was and we are so close to Trosa, could they just come out. I must've sounded peeved because they came later that day and we FINALLY got our estimate and hired them. Their original landscaping/lawn maintenance was fantastic! We chose their full-service package that they included the quote for. Things such as weeding, mowing, edging, lawn aeration, fertilization & over seeding, mulching, leaf blowing, leaf collection & removal, debris removal & hauling including the plastic bags that tend to float through the air here and get stuck on things). Let me preface this by saying the team supervisor that came to our house has been great and our front yard WAS pretty much the envy of our neighborhood FOR THE FIRST SEVERAL MONTHS. Our grass looked fantastic up front. Which makes sense b/c they continue to spend increasingly shorter and shorter time here). The vast majority of the time in the front the front yard is what they spend their time on. Unfortunately our small treasure of a backyard isn't the case. When they first started our backyard looked much better and they even had great grass growing in an area of our back lawn that doesn't have perfect drainage (we'd been told by Trosa during our original consultation they would get someone out to do an estimate on a french drain & Trosa had said they'd get them out for one of the workers to come out to asses. We've called about multiple add-on services only to be told to email . However, when I've tried it hasn't worked. As the weathers gotten hotter this Summer things have been neglected more & more. We've tried calling and speaking to the on-site leaders but they haven't been very responsive. There are weeds growing all over, especially in flower & retaining wall beds. Our grass has disappeared and been replaced by weeds. 3 big bushes have died since Trosa cut the bushes back and I was told by their workers they never sanitize their tools (which means if 1 plant has a problem your potentially duplicating that problem on the next plants) in addition when I pointed out that the bushes they had cut died I was told by one of their workers that "they shouldn't have cut them at that time" and the best I got was a little "sorry". In the time living here, before we switched to Trosa those were extremely healthy, well grown bushes that I've had no trouble trimming with DISINFECTED TOOLS at a CERTAIN SEASON. Now they are completely dead and the other 2 look like they have some sort of disease now. They didn't even tell us and about the problem until we found the 3 bushes/plants completely dead as they are around the side of the house which we go to less then the main back. I feel as if they DEFINITELY should've made us aware so we could try to help save them and they definitely should be disinfecting their tools before use to avoid things happening exactly like this. Also, our retaining wall beds (which I checked before hiring Trosa) they would be able to weekly maintain & weed & was told they would weed every week and mulch regularly. Unfortunately that hasn't been happening on even a semi-regular basis. At this point the only times I've seen them pull weeds (we have Ring cameras) is in the front or when I'm LITERALLY STANDING POINTING TO THEM, actually pulling with them. I have an allergies & don't do well with heat so you have to imagine how frustrating it is to have done this 4 times now! I've walked them through what is and isn't a week so many times! I don't know what else to do, I keep getting promises from the workers that they are going to fix it. I was even told they would come 2x last week to fix the issue- NEVER SHOWED. I called a supervisor as a last resort last week & was told the only time they could get a supervisor out was at 9AM the 27th. After very little sleep, went & waited for them to show for 2 HOURS before I gave up. Later that day my husband received a voicemail simply stating "the supervisors couldn't make it to the appointment today" no apologies, reasons or attempts on their part to re-schedule. I could give so many examples but Yelp has a word limit. The backyard seems to be going backwards in time lately before Trosa did a pretty great job in both areas right around the Spring or Summer of 2020. We hired them on August 8, 2020 and it's amazing to see a yard look worse than when a landscaping company started with it after almost a year! I need to use the backyard for work sometimes. Trosa, if it looks like a weed just pull it, flag everything that's a plant with a big neon description sign in addition to the identification cards next to them? Trosa 100% needs MORE CONSISTENCY. They need a supervisor visit at least once a month and don't just look at the front year please! We're giving them a couple weeks and if it doesn't turn around we're done. read more

My experiences with TROSA Lawn Care have been abysmal. I do not recommend you hire them to take care of your lawn or garden. I agree with other posters that their work is subpar. Grass doesn't get cut, leaves don't get raked, and weeds don't get trimmed. Actual flowers get mowed down and shrubs get damaged. They've neglected to close our gates properly, and our dog has gotten out (she was safe and we are super vigilant about checking now). They once ran into our fence with a riding lawnmower and damaged it, then left without reporting it and didn't properly fix it when we complained. To top it all off, I even caught one of their guys peeing in the back of the yard once. So, if you don't want to have to bury your dog or repair your fence because of these bozos, then don't hire them. Our landlord hired them, so unfortunately, all we can do is report the issues and suggest he hire someone new. Still waiting on that one. read more

The mission behind TROSA is a good one but their lawn care service is absolutely terrible. I received an estimate ahead of time for 2 men for 2 hours. When the 2 men arrived we shared what we would like done in the 2 hours they were scheduled to be here. They left after 1.5 hours without finishing the work we requested. I then received the bill for the services in the mail for much higher than the agreed upon estimate not even taking into consideration that we didn't get the full 2 hours of work. Needless to say we do not recommend their lawn care services and absolutely will not be using their services in the future. Buyer beware if you choose to do business with them. read more

You've got to have bandwidth to be in constant contact with them for residential work. If you want a service that you can put in place and forget about this is not it. But realize too that the program benefits people trying to get back on their feet. For us we use them because it allows us to help others. read more

Oh Trosa. I really wish I didn't have to write this review but you gave me no choice. First if all, we have used them for all services since moving here 3 years ago: moving, framing, furniture and have bought our Christmas trees with them in the past. We have used them for lawn services here and there since we bought our house over a year ago. My first red flag should have been when I hired them to "weed" my flower beds out front. At 5 months pregnant I was just in no mood to be outside in the Carolina sun for this chore. they half heartedly removed weeds but completely removed my mulch! I was not happy about that and when I asked why they did that they said it was the only way to do it. About two weeks ago, I contacted Trosa to get an estimate on lawn services for the coming year. Mowing and lam the extras. My next door neighbor uses them. We've used them so i figured it would be a good deal for all parties. So, I contacted me neighbor, found out how much she paid and waited for Trosa to come back with an offer. I will let you do the math here. My yard is .25 acres. My neighbor's yard is 1 (one) acre. Trosa charges my neighbor $160 a month. Trosa offered to do ours for $180 a month. WHAT?!?!? To make a long email exchange short. Trosa refused to come down any further than $160 claiming that their supplier raised their prices and that it was a reasonable offer on their part. Not only did I disagree, but the incredibly condescending tone of their emails to us were shocking. One of them started "let me break it down so you can understand" So incredibly disappointed in Trosa. I was under the impression that they were a great non-profit. We will be taking ll of our business elsewhere for sure. In case you were wondering , I found another lawn service company to do ALL services Trosa offered at a no haggle price of $140 a month. So far so good! I was looking for someone to mow & weed our very large lawn after my husband tore his MCL and required surgery. TROSA quoted me an excellent price and I have my lawn 2x a month. They are in and our. Do not bother us when we are home and do a great job. I have just contacted them again to get on the schedule for this year. Keep it up! I hope the service continues to be great as I did read some of the reviews on here who were unhappy, though I do not have any BIG lawn jobs. read more

We started using Trosa for lawn care in 2013. We paid to have our lawn done and get a fallen tree and some debris removed. The lawn was great, but they left half the tree in the yard. I had to contact them and ultimately send them a photo of the tree to get them to complete the work. They did, then for the remainder of 2013 we had no issues with them. They were thorough and seemed to take great care of the yard. 2014, however, has been pretty bad. Twice they didn't show with no contact of any sort. After we contacted them following that second no show, they said something along the lines of, "We always mow your lawn on XXXXday." If that were true, it would've probably been better to tell us that instead of telling us a different date. Which, okay, fine -- maybe someone was just having a bad day over there. But when they did show up to mow the lawn, they left huge piles of lawn clippings and debris that would've caused dead spots in the lawn had we not raked it up. We canceled as a result, which they took with a shrug. Trosa itself is a great program. I just think they've gone a bit off track when it comes to lawn care. read more

TROSA Lawn Care is amazing! I have used them twice for HUGE jobs. I asked them to clip back vines I didn't want but they offered to pull them up from the roots! This was a very big and difficult job but they were happy to do it. They were on time and very fast. They did in several hours what would have taken me a full season. Wonderful! read more

First and foremost, I have not gotten anything done on my lawn by this company. However, I would never conduct business with them just from all the back and forth emails and phone calls I have had with them in the past month. I simply wanted to get a quote for weeding now and aerating, fertilizing and seeding in the spring. They came and looked at my yard but told me later on that they do not do weeding. None of that was EVER mentioned before they even came to my house and I had to make arrangements to meet them. When I complained about it, they finally said they could spray for weeds instead of pulling them. However, now they came back saying that they would only provide me with the quote for weeding right now and said that they could not provide the quote for the rest of the service because the quote is only good for 30 days. When I asked them for just a ballpark estimate for the AFS services because I am also comparing some quotes from other companies, they basically stopped responding and never emailed me back. I tried calling but the person answering the phone said they don't know anything about it and I would have to call their manager when he is in...What a bunch of BS! A company that does not value its customers is not a company I want to do business with!!! I would NEVER recommend this lawn company to anyone. read more

I have used TROSA Lawn Care for years. They have always done a great job on my yard. This year, they aerated, fertilized, and seeded my front yard and It looks amazing. I usually contact them by email and I have never had a problem with scheduling ever. In the fall, they come and rake my leaves and haul them away. They are always fast and efficient. They even blow the leaves off my roof and clean the leaves out of my gutters. When they are finished, they remove every last leaf on the ground. I like hiring TROSA not only because they do a great job, but also because I know that I am supporting a wonderful Durham non-profit who does a tremendous amount of good in our community. read more

I used Trosa for big yard cleanups and loved their service. Then I hired them for monthly service and had many of the same problems listed in other reviews. Never got a contract, never knew when they were coming. Had difficulty when trying to rectify a complaint: they couldn't find my paper work for about 4 days, so it took a week for them to tell me why they had only mowed half my lawn. When I talked to a manager, I was told they had too many other customers to come back to get the second half for awhile. Two weeks later when my lawn was still only half done, (3 weeks from half mow,) I canceled the "contract." 2 months after I canceled my service, I was contacted by the billing department because they never got a check I mailed in. They blamed the lost check on the mail carrier and asked for the full payment. All in all, this complaint doesn't seem to warrant a 1 star review, but the phone conversations I had were so frustrating, the communication was terrible, and I think ultimately it was because of the overwhelming feeling that retaining my business just wasn't important to them. read more

John, Johnny and Willie came out bright and early on a Saturday morning, and cleaned up a mess of vines and volunteer saplings at our street. They did the job super quickly, and actually cleared further up our hilly yard than I even expected, then blew off our driveway and cleaned up the pine straw at the bottom for us. They were courteous, friendly, and a real pleasure to talk with. I am so happy that we called TROSA and will definitely do so again! read more

So disappointed to write this review. We love the TROSA organization, so we decided to give them a shot when we had a big-ish lawn project. Although big, the project was pretty basic lawn clean-up - weeding, trimming bushes and hedges. They also quoted us on stump grinding for 6 stumps. They came and "did the job." Lawn was weeded (although incompletely), plants and hedges were trimmed totally haphazardly. It looked like a complete mess. Stump grinder broke and they never called to let us know when they would be coming back to finish the job. For weeks, they never returned - until I received a bill and called to inquire. They returned to grind remaining stumps and left a mess. Paying them felt like providing a very large donation to TROSA, rather than paying for a service. I (unfortunately) cannot recommend their lawn services in any way. read more

I wish I could give a better review. I have had a contract with TROSA lawn care since May. The work they did was fine, when they come out my yard looks great. The problems are with scheduling and billing. To accomplish getting service and paying your bills takes multiple (as in 7-10) phone calls and emails. Everyone I have met/spoken to has been extremely courteous and friendly, but there seem to be delays at every turn. No one has come out to my house since mid-August. I have called multiple times and have been told conflicting info, or promised service that never happened. My yard looks terrible, as it hasn't been cut in close to 2 months. I have waited it out so long because TROSA is such a positive and valuable community program, but I may have to switch to someone else with better prices and more organized service. If you use them, know that they're great people but expect MAJOR delays. read more

Trosa came out and removed all the leaves in our yard yesterday. This was not an easy task because our yard had not been attended to for awhile. They did a fantastic job! We have used Trosa for our move, Christmas trees and now will use them for our lawn care service as well. Brett was easy to work with and made sure we were taken care of! Very disappointed. We asked for a quote on lawncare. They came the next day to give us a quote. It seemed reasonable so we responded right away and asked for the work to be done as soon as possible. We did not hear from anyone to schedule it for over 11 days!! When I called, they said the scheduler was on vacation and they would get back to me. Another couple of days and I finally heard in an email that "somehow our email fell through the cracks and they want to come out on Wednesday at 830" So I called them to agree and they told me that time was already given to someone else. I can't say enough good words about my experience with this wonderful organization. The lawn care team recently cleaned up the yard that was full of weeds and debris that had collected during the recent storms we have experienced. It was a real mess. They were punctual, polite, and very hard working. They even found areas on their own that needed work that I had not seen. They finished the job by mowing and trimming the grass. I have been using Trosa Lawn Care for the last 2 years multiple times a year. They honestly do a great job. One of the best things I found was their customer service however, and willingness to help you and get you on the books quick! I called in Monday trying to set up a appointment which I was quickly told to go to the website and make appointment to get a estimate, and they be back to me 24 hours at the most. I was very much dismissed, and could tell the gentlemen on the phone didn't want to talk to me. I figured okay they are probably very busy it is a Monday! Well I kept checking my email and never heard so decided to call back to perhaps just set up a appointment over the phone. I asked the gentlemen (Same one as I recognized his voice) who was once again dismissive with me could I just set up a appointment through the phone. He said, "No you can't". Even though I have always set up appointments over phone, and have had the same thing done to my lawn for 2 years and get the same estimate except once when they had to spray for poison ivy... I informed him I look elsewhere for business. I don't recommend Trosa until the gentlemen named "Joe" finds a new department to work in or leaves.. I sooooo wish that I had read the reviews here before signing up for TROSA lawn care services because the reviews here very closely reflect the experience that I have had. Like many others here I REALLY wanted to support TROSA because I truly believe in the work that they are doing. However, my experience has been disappointing to say the least. I signed up for lawn care services in April. At first things were pretty good...I thought they did a fairly good job and mowing and keeping up my lawn. However, I started to notice that things were not being done. For example, despite signing up for complete lawn care services I noticed that my shrubs weren't being pruned, my lawn had not been fertilized and my gutters had not been cleaned. Mind you, I was paying $190 per month!!! Yet the only thing that was being routinely done was my lawn was being mowed and general pick up. The final straw came when no one came to mow my lawn in 3 weeks. When I called the office to inquire about this they assured me that a crew would come by the following morning to mow the lawn. Well...you guessed it...the following day came and went and still no one showed. I e-mailed the manager to express my dismay with the services that I had received (or more accurately NOT received). Instead of being apologetic or contrite, he instead essentially accused me of lying and said that there was NO WAY that no one had come to mow my lawn in a three week span. I was apoplectic at the unprofessional tone of the e-mail, especially since I had been quite kind and civil in my correspondence. Needless to say, I cancelled my services effective immediately. But honestly, if the manager had been more professional and more willing to meet me half way, I would have stayed on as a customer simply because I believe in what they do. I now use a lawn care service that is much more professional, perform all of the services that they charge for and are much more attentive to their customer's concerns. To top it off, they charge less! Sorry TROSA. I truly think you need new management. Potential customers BEWARE! read more
