Jake came out and did our estimate for resurfacing. Neither me nor my husband have ever owned a pool and Jake took the time to explain all aspects of owning, repair and maintenance. We also replaced our pump and filter system. When our old filter sprang a leak before it was replace, Jake came out in the dark and did a great job at doing a repair so we weren't loosing to much water. So I bought a house and there was a pool. I have never owned a pool before but figured, why not? So the Pool company that did the inspection just wrote down whatever the seller wanted and that was submitted to me as 'true' and the pool "Had no leaks and everything worked". Which, was not the case. I went to the BBB to find the best-rated pool company in Dallas, and Tropix was on the top. Jake came out and assessed the situation and provided me with what was broken and what was needed to be fixed later. Well, 2 years later and lots of help from Tropix the pool is working like it should. Let's just say that in the past 18 months, every bit of exposed pipe was replaced due to leaks, a new DE system was installed, new Salt system, and new Controller for the pool was installed. Also, the motor was grounded to earth so it would not shock anyone anymore, and they stopped the 3000 gallons a day leak under the deck. (My neighbor was not happy with all that water) About a year later Tropix replastered the pool and reran wires that were cut for the lights on the pool, replacing the bulbs too. Not having the knowledge and expertise I have learned that there are professionals like Tropix that can teach new pool people to deal with the maintenance on the pool, as well as show where there might be issues in the future. Basically, everything but the motor and heater has been replaced. The people have been great, worked with me every step, scheduled major repairs around my budget. Been using these guys for over a year now. Let's face it. We all own pools that are going to have different issues from time to time. It's important to use someone that has the resources to do it all. When I say do it all I mean Sales, remodeling , service and most importantly giving you advice and options to prevent bigger issues down the road. To me a pool service company is about much more than a pool that is just clean during the week. It's about knowing that something isn't just going to become an issue. That means this company can come look at your equipment and get an idea of what's about to go wrong. All you have to do it wait to see if there are correct and they are. I'm not giving them 1 Star bc the pool looked clean.... when they would actually come. We had them no show twice and I only signed up in November. The last time was last week. No phone call or notice that they weren't coming. Then their phone lines have been down for weeks. So when I emailed to complain that no one showed up last week and asked someone to call me, they said would when their phone lines came back up.... when in a few weeks? I would think an upset customer would justify a phone call from your cell phone at least. They really didn't seem to care if they lost my business or not. After not showing up last week, they still didn't show up till the following Tuesday. I had another pool company come out and they said don't go in the pool or hot tub till they come out, the pool has no chlorine in it at all. I think they are way overpriced for shoddy service. Last winter my father-in-law hired them to completely re-do the pool and decking. Everything Jake said gave us all high hopes. We were excited! But it did not last long. After everything was complete, after following his directions of what should/should not be done the first few weeks, we were pretty livid to say the least. The decking was cracking everywhere, there are 'bleeds' around the jets and light, spots that seemed not to be plastered right, brown instead of the blue that was used. No amount of cleaning gets rid of them. So we called Jake and had him come out to discuss the issues. He basically said all of it was our fault. That WE messed things up. That WE didn't follow his instructions. After thousands spent, he got his commission and the pool looks horrible! Would not recomend!! read more

I want to thank Tropix Pools for coming out to our home to get our pool up and running. Tropix made an EXTRA effort to come out to our home the very next day we called with a problem. Tropix Pools does not usually come out to our area but made this exception because we have been having trouble with our pool for some time and couldn't find anyone to get the problem solved. The company is wonderful!!! Leland came out and was able to get the pool sweep running about 50%. I want to say that the only reason I didn't give Tropix 5 stars is because the pool is not completely fixed yet. We cannot get the sweep to climb the wall yet. But to be honest, there isn't a company has been able to fix our problem completely. I'm hoping that Tropix might be able to lead us to right technician who can solve our problem. Thank you Tropix for getting our impossible, nonfunctional sweep up and running so we can get the bottom of the pool clean. read more

I preferred them back before they were bought out everything was flawless. I have noticed lately though I will call and ask to have something looked at and never hear back. I had my pool re-plastered last year and tiles put back on and months later am seeing stains and tiles at the bottom after every cleaning... called mgmt but they never seem to get back with me on this. read more

I have talked to not only the owner but the GM and I must say I am impressed! The owner is very friendly and helpful. They are willing to do whatever it takes to keep us happy! I was about to switch due to the rudeness and how the prior staff performed poorly and unprofessionally. When I found out there had been a new turn around I am glad we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt! The repair department is quick and honest as well as the friendly remodel department. Two experiences with Tropix Pools 1) last fall. I called them to come out to help me keep my cleaner hose from going into skimmer basket. They noticed other things I did not request. They left. Did not provide me with a bill. I got a bill in the mail but still no information about keeping the hose from going into my skimmer. I called secretary and requested the information and call backs several times over a one month period. They never called me back. Instead I get a very threatening collection notice from a lawyer. owner apologized for the way this was handled. I did get my information finally and then I paid after I finally got the original information I wanted from the beginning. Owner said he fired secretary becuase of this and other similar problems. Owner offerred me a free cleaning. 2) morning of May 24 called to have pool heater replaced. I told them it was important to install before my daughter's graduation on Sat May 28. Owner said they would be out on Friday sometime and they would call 30min to hour before coming out. Owner quoted price for install and disposal of old heater. Morning of May 27, I call to try to narrow down time they would come out. After 5 minute hold on phone, secreatary said they would not come out today and would come out sometime next week. My daughter really wanted the heater installed for her party so the spa would have hot water. She and my family were very upset. There was no time to get another pool service company to come out. No one called me ahead of time to tell me change of plans. I did not know they would not come out untill I called them. I dont trust this company at all! read more

What a farce of an organization when it comes to pool cleaning. If you want a company that will take 10 minutes or less to clean your pool, attempt to charge your extra for a few leaves, doesn't back wash the pool like their website and service plan stipulates, then this is your outfit. I am away from home periodically and have to make sure weekly maintenance on my pool is first. Tropix Pools has been my pool maintenance service for the entire time I've had it! I needed to re-place the pool pump motor and they came through for me! Jake and Charley replaced the pump and apologized to me saying they we're sorry for their response time. They got me in a week, that's more than good enough for me! I like to know the people working on my pool are used by a lot of other people! Tropix Pools are honest and reputable. read more

Good company, if they ever showed up. I pay more than most pool companies for weekly service on Thursday in Plano. Tropix consistently doesn't show up on the scheduled day, and never gives you a heads up. Good luck trying to plan your weekend with your pool when they come out at their discretion even if you have a scheduled day, without giving you a heads up, and telling you you cant use the pool for 24 hours. When they do decide to come out, they provide adequate service, but I have written them now 4 times asking for a manager to contact me regarding the poor service we were receiving, and not once has a manager responded. Highly recommend you look elsewhere for reliable service, especially at this price. I wrote to cancel my service today... we will see if they respond now and bill me only for the one time they showed up this month (2 days late last week) since they didnt show up this week (when scheduled for yesterday). On a bright note, the gentleman that they use to do work on equipment is very good. Shows up on time, communicates effectively, and is fair. Had a spa heater installed and they crossed wires and when spa was on, the pool wouldn't work. Took another 3-4 days for someone to come out and correct. Spa side remote still doesn't work after calling several times. Hard to get anyone to perform service. Always changes in schedule. And what can I say about their pool cleaning service? Watch them closely. They have only been cleaning for a month, but I noticed that the pool still seemed dirt. This week, I decided to sit outside and watch them clean. I realized their definition of cleaning and mine is totally different. Technician wasn't vacuuming. He was only cleaning the baskets, skimming the surface with a net and testing the water. Heck, I can do that. After calling and complaining, they wanted to send a different pool tech to our house, but because they didn't say what he was doing was wrong, I decided to find another company all together. read more

Tropix performed an inspection on my home (that I bought), but MISSED THE HEATER AND LIGHTS! Ironically, a spa light was out and the heater was broken. We bought the house (not knowing) and ended up eating $800 in repairs. This is HORRIBLE! Don't use Tropix. read more

I think Tropix is one of the WORST POOL COMPANIES IN DALLAS! They are dishonest and talked me into spending over $700 to repair a water valve that wasn't even broken. That didn't fix the intended problem so I finally decided to get a second opinion to assess the situation as my pool was green and Tropix could not fix the problem. The second opinion was able to diagnose the problem within 10 min as a leak in my skimmer and fix the problem with some puddy for less than $50. I have since switched companies and am sooo much happier with service from my new company. I would not recommend Tropix to anyone. read more

I BIG YELP out to Tropix Pools!! We have been using Tropix Pools for over 2 years now & went with their "no algae guarantee plan" & Wow! I am so glad we did! so when my 40 yr old and sometimes troublesome pool turned green with algae this week (probably from the ducks that had recently been nesting by my pool) Tropix serviced it 3 times to make it sparkling blue just in time for memorial day weekend! Jake & Charlie went out of their way to come back yesterday after I had a meltdown on the phone with Jake, the service manager - He listened to me & he honored our plan coming back out for a 3rd time bringing Charlie, another supervisor to assist. I was so impressed with their professionalism & determination to do whatever it took to make it right. Wow! they were like "The A Team!" They did not leave until every little bit of algae was vacuumed & brushed & treated with the necessary chemicals to make sure it stayed blue for this holiday weekend. I also want to acknowledge Mathew, my weekly pool tech who is new & still learning, but - I am so glad to have him as my tech. He is learning my old pool & has such patience, is so polite & professional too! My only regret is not letting Tropix Pool's install my latest variable speed pump purchase & my sand filter that I got from Leslie's pool supply 2 years ago & let them, Leslie's, do a sand change BIG MISTAKE! Yes - they were a little less expensive, BUT- I have had issues from day 1 with this expensive equipment & they ( Leslie's) have still not resolved the problems with this expensive equipment- & are now saying the sand filter & sand change is out of warranty! ( this actually started my melt down!) I highly reccomend letting Tropix Pool's service & install any new equipment that you need for your pool because of their professionalism & business integrity. & No doubt they would have handled the problems with my equipment. read more

Our pool maintenance guy (who doesn't do repairs on equipment) suggested a second opinion because he was skeptical it needed to be replaced given it was operational except for the heat. I had Tropix Pools out and within an hour, my spa heater was repaired (rats had chewed the wiring) and blowing hot for an $80 repair bill! Thank you Tropix for your honesty. Horrible! My husband scheduled a pool cleaning prior to putting our house on the market. They never showed up. My husband had someone else come out the next day to clean. Then someone shows up two days later, goes into our yard without letting us know and "cleans" the pool. They claim to have cleaned the pool and added chemicals even though it was just done the day before and looked great. They were difficult to deal with on the phone. We paid our bill of $100 but reported them to BBB. read more

Our pool pump quit working on Sunday so I called Tropix and left a message; to my surprise I got a call back that afternoon from their service manager. He took the time to explain the options and the corresponding pricing for each one so I had could make a good decision as to how to proceed. I agreed to replace the entire motor and he scheduled the appointment for Tuesday. When I got home Tuesday the work had been completed but the service man's report indicated the motor was good and not the problem, instead he removed debris from the impeller and replaced gaskets and seals; the cost was considerable less than a new motor. I would have never known the difference if a new motor was installed as I had agreed to. There's something to be said for a company that provides good service and is HONEST! read more

I have been using Tropix for several years. Their service has slipped a bit over the last couple of years, but that's the least of the problems. I recently purchased a new house with a pool. I had the pool inspected at the time of purchase by an independent inspector. It is not in perfect condition, but is an expensive pool in fair working condition. I just had Tropix' service manager over to inspect the pool. My goodness. This guy takes us all for clowns. I felt like I was getting a proposal from a plumber off the street. "Everything is broken and everything needs to be replaced." Moreover, his pricing proposal was nothing short of insulting. Shameful business practice. We may know very little about pools, but we're not idiots to be taken advantage of. I am now in the process of moving over the cleaning and servicing of both my old pool and my new pool to another pool company. By trying to take advantage of me, the service manager in essence lost his boss two contracts. read more

I'm giving 1 star because zero isn't an option. We had our pool completely remodeled by Tropix in 2014. It took triple the time to complete the project from what we were initially quoted. Additionally, one of the subcontractors used by Tropix apparently had not been paid for the work(by Tropix) and ended up arriving at our home, yelling and cussing, demanding that we pay him directly. Not to mention, broken fences, broken screen doors, broken sprinkler heads... the entire remodel was a nightmare. Once the pool was "done", it was beautiful and usable for about 2 weeks. Soon it began to crumble around us. Literally. Foot long pieces of the coping stone broke off and fell into the pool in several places. The snazzy app-operated equipment that was installed so that we could access the pool features from a mobile device ceased to operate. Tropix was informed of each issue in real time but apparently was not able/willing to fix their subpar work. We ended up in a 13 month long battle with Tropix and their insurance company. This year, we were finally able to recoup most of the money we invested in the remodel project, however, the road we are facing just to get back to an enjoyable backyard is far from over read more
