Front. The front of the store. Also the storefront. Not the back, I repeat.

Woot. Good smoothies, generally quick service, occasionally obnoxious customers. I'm very glad Tropical has a location in Flint - this city could use more young, hip places. Smoothies are consistently good, fresh, yeah. Smoothies. My favorites are: Kiwi Quencher Peaches N' Silk (does not contain any silk that I know of) Paradise Point Skip the Rockin' Raspberry unless you have a taste for bitter things. This location should most definitely take up the 10%-off Check-In offer that the one in Troy does. I would come here more often. :)

In addition to cold sandwiches there are very tasty sandwiches from the grill. This was my first visit to this location and it couldn't have been better. I had an extremely friendly greeting and exceptional service crafting my sandwich. It was exactly how I like it prepared. I dined in and the dining area was extremely clean. A person was cleaning around the beverage station and I could tell my table had just been wiped. Today I arrived early, let them know my pick up name, and told them I knew I was early and it was fine to wait. Well 6 minutes past my pickup time now (I've been here for 15 minutes now), the business has gotten busier so I decided to go up to the counter and ask about it, was ignored while she asked the lady behind me her name, gave her her order, then I said "do you know if mine is ready?" And she was like "what was the name again" and it was ready and sitting there for minutes and I went completely ignored. I also asked for tomato and onion on only half, there was tomato on half but onion on the whole thing. So that was wrong, which happened last time as well. I work in food service so I understand it gets busy and sometimes things can be forgotten, but time and time again is not ok! Food is always great but service can be better.

I thought it would be more fast food in appearance, and in some ways it was with the self serve drink dispenser and plastic silverware, but aesthetically it was far more pleasing than any typical fast food burger spot. You know who I'm talking about. The counter person was absolutely wonderful dealing with us and our questions. Now onto the important stuff. Burgers are two patties and massive. You are definitely getting your money's worth. We split 3 different ones amongst us and they were all good: the mushroom, the southwest, and the brunch. The meat itself is a little flavorless but that might be cause typically I have the meat cooked to medium and these were well done. We weren't asked how we want them cooked so I'm assuming this is just how the cook all the patties. What I didn't like were the fries. They were cold and chewy like they have been sitting around for a while. My son ordered a caramel and it was absolutely delicious. So that was a huge positive. Overall it was a good experience and the prices were in good for the amount of food you get. I would definitely go again.

I'm happy they offer some vegan items which are clearly indicated on a separate card. You can easily customize your vegan burger or bowl. The burger I built was good, the only item I didn't like was the bun. Unfortunately their regular bun is not vegan so I had to get the gluten free one which was very bad. I never had a good gluten free buns, so this was no surprise. Next time I'll probably get the burger bowl skipping the bun altogether. The sweet potato fries were delicious. Sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Yum!! Hubby enjoyed his burger and fries. I tried few of his fries and they were very good. I appreciate them having vegan choices and for that, I may be back.

The vibe is super cozy, with different seating areas, booths and tables tucked around several fireplaces, plus a bar area. They bring out complimentary garlic bread when you sit down, crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside, and absolutely delicious. We each got the $16 personal pizza deal with a side salad and drink. The pizza is thin, wood fired, crispy, and flavorful, cut into six slices, about the size of a small at most other places. Definitely a great value. The salad had fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, we added cheese, and the ranch tasted homemade. We also ordered the homemade asiago cheese sticks, which were fantastic. Super crispy outside, creamy and cheesy inside with that sharp asiago flavor. Our server was friendly and attentive, refilling drinks without us having to ask and offering the dessert menu. I ordered the peanut butter cream pie and the chocolate mousse pie. Both were excellent. Our total was around $70 for two people, but I definitely added some extras. We arrived just in time to be seated right away, and by the time we left the parking lot was filling up fast. They're clearly popular. They also offer Monday through Thursday specials, so it's worth checking those out. There's plenty of parking near the surrounding stores and restaurants. It's a few miles from the main I-75 exit, but absolutely worth the drive.

The Deluxe Lasagna recipe has changed a bit - specifically; the Italian sausage was not sufficiently sausage-y. And while it arrived very hot, there was maybe two tablespoons of fluid in the bottom of the dish. Still very good, but different. The garlic bread served with the lasagna was a miss. Only toasted on one side and insufficiently garlicky (is that a word?). I also ordered a side of the garlic bread. Properly toasted, but again, lacked sufficient garlic flavor. The salad was fresh, slightly chilled. Only one waitress working the dining room and she was busy. Two large groups and a handful of booths were occupied. Although we arrived after the first group, our food came out first. We finished and left ... and they were still waiting on their salads.

It is not just a sandwich shop, it is a sanctuary of sizzle, a monument to meat, and the keeper of my very soul. They lay thinly sliced ribeye upon a screaming hot grill, right before your weeping eyes, onto a roll so soft and pillowy, it holds the heavy burden of glorious steak juices like a protective mother. Then there is the red sauce. It is not a condiment. It is an awakening. A crimson wave of sweet, tangy ecstasy that breathes life into the steak. And the peppers! Those free banana peppers are bright yellow coins of hope, cutting through the rich darkness of the onion-kissed beef. And they have supernatural speed! You order. You hand over your money. Before the register can even click shut, a piping hot, heavy brick of butcher paper is thrust into your trembling hands. How? Is it magic? Is it a glitch in the matrix? Do not question it. Just accept the miracle. My doctor tells me to eat more salads, and they HAVE THOSE TOO! I got one today, the chicken salad with jalapeno ranch. I didn't even have this dream until Big John's told me to dream it. Look, you could go to a lot of different sandwich places in Flint, but seriously do yourself a favor and go here. Choose happiness. Choose Big John's.
