Stopped by Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Clinton on my lunch break and Paula really made the visit a good one. She was super friendly, patient, and made sure everything in my order was right. Even with it being a bit busy, she kept a great attitude and didn't rush me, which I appreciated. You can tell she actually cares about customer service. My smoothie and food were fresh and came out just how I wanted, but honestly it was Paula's energy that stood out the most. We arrived and ordered our food. We ordered 2 smoothies, a Chicken Bacon Ranch flatbread and a Thai Chicken salad, and 2 apples. We waited for a long while and the guy putting the ordered together skipped me to ask my dad what the order name is. I told the guy it was all under my name. He said he's "been calling that name." Yet when he gave me the bag it was missing the apples and my smoothie. But my dad got his smoothie. The ambiance is somewhat chaotic. I told him the bag is missing apples and I didn't have my smoothie and he said "we are out of apples." So the plan was to give me my order but it wasn't complete? After I picked up my order, I noticed that my chips wasn't in the bag. So i went back inside and told them I was missing my BBQ chips, the guy was like, we dont have any BBQ. My question is, why didn't you substitute the chips with a different flavor or at least tell me that when i arrived? Anyways, he gave me plain chips, no apology or nothing lol. Then I get back to my job to eat my lunch and the Acai Bowl did not have granola in it which was the reason why I ordered the bowl. I called up to the store twice, no answer. I drove back to see if they ran out of granola or if they forgot to put it in the bowl. When I arrived, there were no customers in the store, so why yall couldnt answer the phone? I attempted to obtain the owner's contact information from corporate, however, I was told that they would have to send it to me via email. Since I am not sure who the owner is of this franchise location, but JOE-I AM IN CHARGE/ definitely needs customer service training, as well as training on how to be the one IN CHARGE when it comes to your employees because his behavior definitely is not management worthy. I am a longtime resident of this area and I have patronized this location since it opened and would order the same item EVERY TIME without issue. I am allergic to romaine, so I always replace it with kale in my salad and wrap. ALWAYS. Even when I Uber Eat I would call and there never was a problem. Until today! I went in and ordered the usual (chicken caesar salad wrap with kale and spinach), along with my smoothie and paid for it. All I heard yelling across the floor was "WHY WOULD YOU TAKE AN ORDER FOR KALE SUBSTITUTE AND WE DON'T DO THAT."  Everyone was caught off guard because of the rudeness and the fact that he yelled and chastised the employee with that tone. The young man stated that "that's what she wanted."  JOE IN CHARGE responded, "WELL WE DON'T DO THAT."  Because I could only respond, as it was my order they were discussing, I stated to the gentleman that I always order this and they usually get the Kale from this side (something I would know because I DO THIS ALL THE TIME WITHOUT INCIDENT.).  His response to me (the customer) was, "WELL THEY NOT SUPPOSE TO SO..."  I replied, "So what does that mean?"  He said, "I AIN'T MAKING IT WITH KALE."  I told him I was allergic to romaine and I have never had a problem.  His response was, "WELL, I AM IN CHARGE AND I AM CORRECTING THAT BECAUSE YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ORDER IT." Again, taken aback by his tone (even the employees were looking at me like "WTF"), I walked to the register and asked for a refund.  He said, "I AM MAKING YOUR SANDWICH."  I told him I didn't want it because I AM ALLERGIC TO ROMAINE.  The conversation went back and forth as he continued to reiterate that HE WAS IN CHARGE. I asked him for the manager's number. He said HE WAS IN CHARGE, but he would call the owner. I told him that if it was the same owner who I saw when I frequented the restaurant, he was there when I ordered my food with kale and he did not have a problem. I then asked how to contact him.  He responded, "I CAN CALL HIM, BUT YOU CAN'T."  I asked him to call the owner while I was there so I could speak with him.  He told me NO.... He then continued to talk reckless to me as he processed my refund.  I told him that I would reach out to the corporate office, and find out how to contact the owner.  He then tried to say that he was going to make the sandwich.  I told him I didn't want him to make me anything. I telephoned corporate from the location and made a complaint. I will NEVER frequent this location again.  If this is the type of customer service longtime residents have to deal with, then my money will not support.  Over some KALE on the other side of the restaurant.  Really? I hope you are happy with JOE IN CHARGE, because it appears that your staff is not interested in working under him and you won't have too many returning customers if that's the type of service he provides. read more

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a franchise company with over 1100 locations. They serve smoothies, flatbreads, sandwiches, wraps, salads, quesadillas, and kid's meals. I made 2 visits and bought a Thai Chicken Wrap, an Island Green smoothie, and a Detox Island Green smoothie. The Thai Chicken Wrap had grilled chicken, carrots, sesame seeds, fried wonton noodles, cilantro, scallions, romaine lettuce, and Thai peanut sauce. The chicken was white meat. It was moist and tender. There wasn't much meat. There was a very small filet cut into 6 small pieces. The fried wonton noodle strips were soggy from the Thai peanut sauce. The sauce had mild flavors of peanut, soy sauce, sweetness, and spiciness. Overall, it was flavorful and nicely balanced.    Island Green smoothie had spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, and banana (naturally sweetened). It was blended well with no chunks. It had a moderate banana flavor mixed with a moderate spinach/kale flavor. It was mildly sweet with a light citrus flavor. I didn't think I'd like a smoothie with spinach or kale, but this smoothie was pretty good.    The Detox Island Green smoothie had spinach, kale, mango, pineapple, banana, and fresh ginger (naturally sweetened). The overwhelming flavor was ginger. There was so much ginger that it was spicy hot. The natural sweetness became unnoticeable. Someone was either heavy-handed with the ginger, or the recipe needs to be changed. The spinach and kale flavors were mild. I had to add 3 tbsp of sucralose to counterbalance the ginger so that it was drinkable. After the addition of sucralose, it tasted alright.    The service was quick and cordial. The cafe was very clean. There are 5 tables with chairs and a counter with seats. There is one restroom in the back of the cafe and it was clean. I recommend giving them a visit. read more

The staffing at this place is extremely disgruntled place was empty when I got there employees are walking around, carrying on in conversations and swearing speaking very loudly. Cashier didn't even greet me. The order was correct though, but this place definitely had a bad vibe to it. it felt more hostile. I recently visited this location at 8:10pm and the staff wanted to shut down early. They said that they were not taking any more food orders because they wanted the oven to cook off before they leave. However I noticed that online orders were still coming in because it was not after 8:35pm yet. When I point that out the manager then decided to take my order. During the whole time I waited for my order the other staff member on the smoothie station complained openly about having to fulfill orders. She even complained to me and said had she been on the register she would have just told me NO. 1. Long wait after receiving a text notification that my order was ready on 07/14/2021 @ 1:30 PM. My food was ready, but forced to wait an additional 15 minutes for my smoothie. The manager refuse to reimburse me when I requested my money back. Extremely unprofessional response and disrespectful. I lefted and return back to a slushy room temperature smoothie. I will not patronize this location again. 2. Music is not customer friendly. Loud rap music which forced customer's to talk loud to interact with staff. Soothing music should be played in a place of business. 3. Employee's appeared inexperienced and not totally trained. I'm a huge Tropical Smoothie Cafe fan..GREAT smoothies & food but this location needs some help. I'm aware it's fairly new but there hasn't been much change in service from day 1...and now it's months later & the staff is still obviously struggling. This is the 5th time I've came into the store to pick up an app order & yet I'm waiting 15-20 mins for a smoothie that sometimes is already prepared, the employee just struggles to acknowledge guest in the pick up area. The employees needs to be retrained, the chewing gum, the lack of acknowledgement********, the person who takes orders is sitting on a bar stool & sometimes u can't even hear what they're saying so obviously the sitting down affects their lack of motivation and it just looks very unprofessional (I've seen multiple workers sitting in this chair while receiving orders, so no it's not health related) I just want this shop to get better read more

Disappointing for a NEW location. There was only one proper employee that i interacted with, which was the young lady who handed me my order. It's my turn to order and I'm at the register and the "gentleman" doesn't say anything to me. The young adults that work here can run this plan solely without management helping. They are more of a hinderance than help. The young lady who helped me today had to explain to management what he was doing and how it should've been made. He needed to be on the register because he knew nothing. After a long day, I was looking forward to a smoothie and salad from Tropical Smoothie located in Clinton. I placed an online order, which consisted of a Lean Machine with d. choc smoothie, a Cajun Shrimp salad, and a side of jalapeño corn. I arrived at the allotted time and retrieved my order from the cashier. Once I got home, I realized they gave me a chicken salad with rice, tomatoes and cheddar cheese, which I did not order!! I checked my online order email receipt with the ticket that was taped to my bag...both had my cajun shrimp salad that I ordered and paid for. Additionally, I then realized that my cajun shrimp salad cost more than the chicken salad. I called the store number numerous times, to no avail. All I got was a recording that the mailbox was full! I called a few more times with the hope that someone would eventually pick up the phone, but that did not happen either. I was extremely irritated! I live a good distance away, and I certainly did not want to drive back, so I gave up and decided to write this review. I have visited several locations in the past and was always pleased. Went here today for lunch with 3 coworkers. Arrived around 12:20. My order was placed by 12:26. I ordered a Cuban Sandwich without mayo. The cashier even asked another employee for help on how to input no mayo on the order and told the chef verbally. I was the second person in my group of four to order, the first received his order in under 5 minutes. Two of us did not receive our food until 12:51. By this point we did not have time to eat at the restaurant and had to bring it back to work. I stupidly did not check the order. The fourth person in our group got his chipotle chicken wrap at 12:57 after being told there was no chipotle sauce (and of course his order was screwed up to, they put tomato on his when he asked for no tomato). We went back to work, I opened my sandwich to find lots of mayo against my wishes and a disgusting long thick dark hair. I immediately took a picture and threw away the sandwich. I thought about bringing the sandwich back to the store, but it simply wasn't worth the $8 I spent. Will not ever be coming back to this store. Not to mention this was my first time at a Tropical Smoothie Cafe in general. I won't be coming back. I'd recommend going to the Firehouse Subs or Panera Bread next door. The root of the problem is the manager, Ashley Milligan . She seems ok with the poor attitudes of those at the register, because they are mirroring her! She is incompetent AND rude. 10/17/19, we tried buying 2 smoothies on-line, but the app wasn't working. In the meantime, my husband went into the store to pick them up, but there was no order so he bought 2. Then the order went through on line, so we had four smoothie orders. Ashley gave him 1 VIP card for a FREE smoothie, then a Buy 1/Get 1 FREE card. He asked why and was told that was all she had, but they would be fine for redeeming our 2 smoothies. The evening of 10/26 we went to redeem the cards but when Ashley was called on the phone by the shift manager, she had no recollection and said we would have to return when she came in the next day at 10 AM. 10/27 at 11 AM, Ashley was not at work. We came back at 12 PM...no Ashley. Finally, the shift manager said I could have Ashley's number, so I called her. Not only did she say she didn't remember any of it, even after showing her the two cards with a manager's signature via Facetime, she accused us of already getting a free smoothie the night before, and making the whole thing up! She then directed the shift manager to take the cards I came in with, because she wasn't going to honor anything, so I hung up on her. She kept calling the girl back while she was trying to help other customers, saying "I'm on my way up there!" I started dialing 911, so the girl gave me back the cards. Here is a picture of the cards with a manager's signature. The owners are NEVER there, so that is probably why she feels like she can treat people that way over a $6.99 smoothie. The Hispanic manager is rude, the first time I went there she asked did I pay for an smoothie that I ordered online for in store pick up. You obviously pay before even go there. Secondly, I am an African American and she asks for my name the second time when i am picking up in the store and she looks at the cup weird and hands me my drink and then I say thank you and she gives no response. Getting worse by the minute. Day 1, order was fine, but they ran out of tops. Ok, cool. Day 2, the very next day, i place an online order to be ready at 1144. By 1150, it's still not done. It has been a while since I've been back in this establishment. My dilemma is that I LOVE Tropical Smoothie Cafe as a chain but this location continues to be the worst in customer service. They either don't communicate or it is bad communication. I waited in the store 30+ minutes for an order I made online 30 mins before I even got to the store. It was just a smoothie. There was a back up of people waiting for their items as well but there were a few people who walked in and placed orders who received their items right away. Please do not come here with the same expectation, everything is fresh and made to order! There are several signs that state "10 mins after pick up time: Smoothies /Food items will NOT be remade due to quality issues" Keep in mind, the healthy option will often take more time and be more expensive but you are INVESTING in your health which is a long term lifestyle!
