The first time at this salon for a pedicure, I left with sore, bruised feet from an overly aggressive foot massage. A couple months later, 28May, I decided to try it a 2nd time for a pedicure. The worst pedicure ever. I have used this salon many times and was very satisfied. Friday (1/21/22) I I went in and had a very bad experience. Something has changed and not for the better. A male person was not interested in my feet at all. My toe nails are not smooth, he dug so hard on my big toes that I can't wear shoes. He spent most of his time "chatting up" young women who entered the solon. He did not give me a professional pedicure in any way - I know I'll try someplace else next time. read more

The staff here is so friendly, and they give the best pedicures. I always ask for Kelly!! She is amazing!! The only complaint is the wait, which can be over an hour. Worst paint job ever! Do NOT get the male tech, Vu, to do your nails. He painted all outside the lines. It took him 20 minutes to fix, and it still looked awful. This was AFTER I made him go back. You should see the first time. The colors were all over my cuticles. I didn't have change, but a $5 tip, but he definitely did not deserve my money! I went home and washed it off. I don't usually do reviews and honestly if the quality of work would've been better, I probably wouldn't be. The customer service here is absolutely awful. I have always had my acrylic nails soaked off, my experience here involved a woman taking an artificial nail tip and sticking it under the acrylic nail to physically rip them off of my natural nail. This process was very painful to say the least, not to mention how two of my natural nails were ripped to the quick and bleeding afterwards. Her attitude involved mumbling under her breath, jerking my hands forward, as well as rushing through my gel after I had refused to get SNS to fix the nails she broke. Did not even say thank you for the 5$ tip she didnt deserve. I have been to lots of nail places in Rome, but I have never had this bad of an experience. read more

I've been here twice. The first time was OK--not bad, not great either. I came as soon as they opened to make sure there wasn't a wait (it was my wedding weekend...bit of a tight sched.) I went back again on a Friday afternoon for a pedicure. It was clearly busy, and I asked about the wait. They told me "15, 20 minutes maximum." Well, almost an hour later I was still sitting there. They kept telling it would be soon, but a quick scan of their six (!) chairs proved this to be a total lie--no one was even remotely close to being done...all feet were still in the water! To make things worse, they don't have a sign-in sheet or anything to keep track of who came in when--your spot in line is entirely dependent on one busy dude's memory. . To start off, I called prior to coming in to ask about the wait for a gel manicure and was told 30 minutes. I arrived five minutes later, and there were 8 people waiting and every chair full - obviously longer than a 30 minute wait. But I sat anyways. For any person that came in after me and asked the wait, they were all also told 30 minutes to clearly attempt to keep their business. Two hours later I finally was seated for my manicure, after multiple people had the right mind to get up and leave before being seen. The nail technician said multiple times how busy they were, all while using tools that had been sitting at her station, not freshly cleaned or sanitized. As stated above, I was there for a gel manicure. At any other nail salon I've been to, a manicure entails soaking fingers to trim cuticles, nail filing and shaping, etc. That did not happen. She snipped two hang nails and then buffed my nails and got to painting. She did apply cuticle oil afterwards, and proceeded to rub it all over my hands. I was in and out of the chair in 10 minutes, and I had to trim my own cuticles at home and shape my nails at home. I've had 2 other experiences similar to this at this salon, so I will not be returning. read more

Okay. This place is what I like to call a big waste of time and money. I had gone there before and it was so-so. This past time I went I had just gotten engaged and I really needed my nails done to show off my beautiful ring! When I got there, there wasn't very many customers and they sat me down in a chair pretty quickly. But, I sat there for a good 30 minutes before anyone came by. At this point I was annoyed and then the lady came by and totally messed up my nails! I mean she started doing things to them that I didn't even ask for. Then the manager came over (none of them can barely speak English) letting me know he was sorry but it would be another 30 minutes or so. So I had to get up and leave. So while I was there I wasted about an hour and fifteen minutes. Not very good for them. I would not recommend anyone go there. The bathroom and back room is also full of food and they cook it back there where the wax is for facial waxing, and there were dishes in the bathroom sink. read more

Was recently (twice....called in and walk in) told it would be 10-15 minute wait, but knew by the number of women sitting with their feet in the water not being attended to that the staff was running behind and not up front about the wait. The gal who does the powder/gel nails who sits in the front is unfriendly and seems moody. Had to leave and went to Ivy Nails on Broad Street. The WORST pedicure I've ever had. Recently moved here from Tampa and was the most devastated about losing my permanent nail tech there. Came to Tropical at the recommendation of coworkers. Immediately I should have known something was wrong when they made me soak my toes in acetone to remove the gel instead of using individual foil wraps or the Dremel. As they hadn't soaked long, a man then used cuticle clippers to scrape the gel off, damaging my nails. He then exfoliated for so long it began to hurt. Another person came in to cut and "shape" my toenails. She only filed across the top leaving them crooked and jagged. I was then moved to a desk where I was to be polished (still talking my toes here). After sitting for ten minutes examining my damaged nails I asked to pay for what I'd had done so I could leave. Upon leaving, the manager (or someone who appeared to be in charge) tried to tell me that my toe had damage before I came in and that it wouldn't show once they were painted. Terrible experience! My daughter Took me there on a Sunday we did not know the one in the mall had closed. We were told it would just be a little bit by the time we got back to the chairs we realized there were only two women doing pedicures everybody else was soaking. It ended up taking 3 hours to get us out of there. The woman in charge was barking orders at the customers and the woman doing my daughter kept laughing at her feet! The worst gel manicure ever, it started chipping after the first day like regular polish! They put extra thin coats and I pick out out a light blue color so you could see through it. Usually don't get my gel nails from here and I won't come back. The other nail salon I have been going to just happened to be closed. With them my gel nails can last almost a month so you can see why I'm so dissatisfied. I paid the same price for some bull crap at tropical nails! I went and got acrylics a few days ago and they were literally the WORST nails I have ever gotten done. The guy that I had didn't do my nails like I wanted and didn't do what I asked. I asked if he would shorten my nails three times and he never shortened them. He just slapped stuff onto my nails and didn't make anything even or smooth. The guy that did my nails put one of my nails on crooked. There are air bubbles all in my nails and they are bumpy where he did not smooth out the powder when putting it on. he scratched the paint off of my thumb and "smoothed" the paint out with his finger. Like really? My nails look horrible and my real nails are sticking out of the sides of the acrylics. they look so bad and I just got them done. I got my nails done three days ago and one of the tips of my nails literally popped off. Never go here. They do not clean the utensils after each person which is unsanitary. Went in for a pedicure 2 days before vacation mid September 2016. Wait time: 5 stars. Was seated immediately in a big massage chair and was greeted by a technician within 10 minutes. Pricing: 5 stars. $25 for a pedicure and chair massage is to be expected. Experience: 1 star. Here's where it gets painful, literally. I have a high pain tolerance but this woman almost had and has me in tears one week later. Basically she was digging much too hard/deep on the right side of my big toe nail. It wasn't until I knew something was wrong and started flinching when she asked if I was okay. Luckily at that point she was finished digging. Also, she dug her thumbs in pretty good on my shins. That's a weird spot to think someone needs more pressure than say the calves or feet. No shin massage, please! Also, seeing the cockroach crawling beside my chair was unsettling. Even more unsettling, she glanced at it while working on my feet then looked back at what she was doing - no care given. Whewww. Here's where it gets really bad-- a day after the pedicure my toe started throbbing and was tender so I started taking ibuprofen for the pain and that help alleviate the pain. On day 2-3, that's when I started noticing the redness appearing, along with more pain. I have been treating it topically with medical ointment but it was very sensitive to the touch so it has affected the shoes I wear and the way I walk. Today is day 9 and it is very puffy and swollen. If it doesn't start looking better soon, I will likely need medical treatment. I've been getting manicures and pedicures in Rome for 15 years and this has never, ever happened to me before. I hate that this happened here because I have been a customer at least 5 times before. Bottom line, speak up IMMEDIATELY when you have a concern, don't try to be tough and suck it up. And let a manager know about a bug problem....I'm worried sick that this place not have been sanitary. Hopefully it's just a pain from her digging and it will heal soon with no future problems with it. read more
