Went for brunch and ordered the eggs Benedict. Have to say: it was nearly perfect. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the Hollandaise was good, not great but good. Portions aren't huge but just right. What a hidden gem. Wife and I are visiting from Chicago and came here because there were multiple items on the menu that appealed to us. We were seated right away at the chef bar without a reservation and promptly served drinks by Aaron. Not only did the guy rock a killer bow tie but his service was impeccable all night. The food was amazing, buffalo cauliflower was on point, my trophy burger was done medium rare to perfection and my wife's spaghetti squash was the true star. Service was incredibly bad. Came in at 11am Saturday for brunch. I am pretty sure the waitress in the section we were seated in was new, so the hostess told us she'd take care of us. She took our order and brought our drinks and food out promptly. But then she disappeared. By 11:45 we were more than ready to leave but couldn't get the hostess' attention, so we asked a waiter for our check. Saw him walk over to the bar where the hostess was chatting with the bartender, but she didn't move from that spot. Had to ask for the check 3 times. We never even got an itemized receipt! Eventually the waiter we'd been pestering grabbed my boyfriend's credit card that was on the table and ran it through without printing the check with our order on it or even saying anything to us. Bizarre. Bottom line: we waited 30 minutes for the check. Food and drink here are good, but not good enough to make up for this kind of service. Caveat: I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, but I've never had such a bad brunch in the South End. Enter locale, which was fairly empty. Sit down at wobbly table and eye over the menu, which is fairly uninspired. Waitress recommends to brunch items and a Bloody Mary. Mate and I order both her recommendations and have a couple Mary's. Mate gets the sidewalk which comes out with a completely uncooked egg, spam for ham, and charred cheese and potatoes congealed on top, no Bueno. I order the pastrami hash, which conceptually sounds like a delicious item with sweet potatoes and endives. Unfortunately, it was once again way to greasy, no acid to brighten the plate. It was nothing special or noteworthy. Bloodies tasted heavy on bottled mix, also no Bueno. Staff didn't seem to notice or care. Trophy room is in a neighborhood with heavy hitters like Metropolis and Tremont 647. I don't think they'll do well unless they can recreate themselves Resteraunt Impossible style. read more

The Trophy Room is truly a hidden gem in Boston. Due to living around the corner, I've come here for breakfast, dinner and for just drinks on the weekend. I have yet to have a bad experience and this is surely due to the staff and bartenders being SO AMAZING. Every food item has been pretty darn tasty and I can definitely recommend the nachos or succotash superfood (if you're here for brunch). Their burgers have been quite delicious too! The bar tenders are fun and creative with their cocktails, and have been very generous with toppings like tootsie rolls, gummy worms and many more nostalgic treats. Usually I would give this place a 3 as an A-ok spot but they get an extra star for their menu. I am overjoyed when I see a dining establishment but in some creative twists in flavor and ingredient to create unique vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes without gloatingly promoting themselves for doing so. We squished into a booth [because we choose to like each other] and stumbled through the menus. Their beer selection is small but solid, I'm sure there's more at the bar naturally, and the waiter made modest amounts of appearances which was the reason I did not order larger dishes. I had a really tough time deciding what I wanted, there were too many good looking options. I finally settled on the blood orange risotto and the grilled asparagus. The asparagus was delightfully charred yet it didn't impact the flavor, especially in combo with the soy aioli [which for a second I forgot what it was as I was very green]. The blood-orange risotto was interesting. I loved the small size which is great for a heavy risotto, however it was VERY heavy on the blood orange. Unfortunately the additional infusion of the balsamic drizzle left the dish too sweet for my taste. But +1 for originality. I really want to come back and try some of the more ingenious creative ideas: the spicy cauliflower wings, the carrot bisque, the angel hair zoodles [zucchini noodles!!!! and tricolored carrots goo Italy!] or the vegan spaghetti [that was my runner up if I had more time] All together, should be back, cheers! read more

Went here with a couple of friends to grab a bite to eat on a Tuesday night. We were seated right away and the place was decently packed, even around 6pm. For food, I ordered the classic burger with a side salad. The salad itself was pretty bland and lacked any excitement. My friend's salad also didn't look great and like something I could make at my house. The burger on the other hand was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I don't know what they do with their buns, but it tasted like they were grilled with butter and really helped to complete the meal. We also tasted wine since it was their wine tasting night and enjoyed a glass of one of the selections. Overall, this place has a great vibe and serves up some tasty food, just skip the salads as they lack a little substance. read more

We went for brunch/lunch on a Sunday around noon. We each had the burger, with fried egg ($13ish, and $3 extra for the egg). The beef had fantastic flavor, and overall the burger was delicious. Buns were nicely toasted so that despite the runniness of the soft-cooked egg yolk and the juiciness of the patty and all the condiments etc., they were not soggy. Patty was very thick and juicy, and a medium-rare was exactly that, not a wishy-washy medium like you get so often. The lettuce could have been a bit more crunchy, and the fries were not my favorite in terms of texture (basically like potato sticks with no crunch). Nice comfortable decor, not too crowded. The service was not great- I asked for mayo when I ordered the burger, then again as the waitress passed by, then again when someone else asked how were were doing and if we needed anything else, and only on the fourth try did I get my mayo. They also brought the check way too soon, and then took way too long in processing the payment. Overall, three and a half stars for the food, two stars for service, three for ambience. read more

A solid brunch spot: their drinks are really good and their service was great (we had James serve us). It wasn't really that packed for an Easter Sunday brunch but seemed like it could be more lively @ night. In town for work staying at the Chandler Inn and stopped over for a late night drink and a bite to eat on a Monday night. The Trophy Room had a two person band and our awesome bartender Scott, with the gnarly tattoos, closed the band's set out with a nice rendition of Al Green's let's stay together. I had the pan-seared salmon and quinoa couscous mix and was wildly surprised at the quality and preparation. The Salmon was prepared perfectly, crispy skin and moist delicious inside. Don't come here expecting typical "bar food". The Trophy Room is a great option for drinks or a meal. Plus our excellent bartender Scott provided great customer service and made our experience welcoming and fun. I really liked it here. Great vibe, clean, not too crowded. We showed up at 8 pm on a Saturday afternoon 8 people deep and stayed until about 10:00 pm. We got really lucky because they were holding a large booth for a while for a big party that was late. We grabbed beers from the bar and were standing around when we got hungry. I asked the hostess how long it would be take to seat is and she said that if the party did not arrive in 10 minutes the table was ours. After 9 mins she gave us the table. Our server (Sadly I forget her name but she had red hair) was awesome. She had a great personality, gave food and drink recommendations, and was just really good at her job. I got the truffle popcorn (good, but smallish so you won't want to share with anyone) for an appetizer and had the cauliflower wings and carrot soup as an entree. They were both appetizers but I wanted it. the cauliflower wings is grilled cauliflower with buffalo sauce. It was really good, but a little spicy. Pairing it with the carrot soup have my mouth little reprieve from the spice because the soup had curry. It's ok I ate some of my boyfriend's fries to help with that. They ended up not having as much soup left as they thought so they gave me my bowl of soup for free (since it was about the same size as the popcorn). I wouldn't have known it was small since I had never been there before, but it is good to know. I had the Tour de France drink and it was really good. My boyfriend said his old fashioned was only ok, but that his burger was perfect. Great experience overall and I look forward to going back. read more

Great local spot. Very convenient if you're staying at the adjacent hotel or nearby. Usually a large local crowd. Drink prices are very reasonable and the bar staff can make recommendations on beer or mixed drinks. So it goes like this, the restaurant that replaced the previous gay sports bar was very nice looking on the inside and out. I was impressed with the decor, lighting, etc. Was strikingly different is the clientele, I believe I heard that they wanted a more lucrative & diverse crowd so hence the upgrade, funny, more diversity in this case means less gays. The waiter was super friendly so we ordered drinks and appetizers. My friend got the clam chowder which we both liked and I got the Jalapeno Cheddar Pretzels, which I didn't like. The pretzel didn't look homemade but came out of a box and was reheated. The cheese on the top wasn't fresh as it was a part of the pretzel. The taste was bland and not fresh. I really want to like this place because of the decor and the windows that open, it's way more inviting than Club Cafe so I'm come here again. read more

Trophy Room used to be a hot spot among Boston's gay population, but that has since changed. Trophy Room has lost almost its entire gay clientele in the blink of an eye. Not sure what the mindset behind this shift is, but for a venue we've frequented for years and were considered "regulars" this is not a good look. If Trophy plans to redeem itself as an establishment we'd step foot into again with acceptance, you will see our dollars, but for now we will drink, dine, and make new memories elsewhere. read more

Went to the trophy room for a friends birthday brunch before the holidays. Drinks where great. Food was nothing to write home about and the server was awesome. I'm pretty sure they where under staffed because the manager was helping our server. So for being alone she was amazing. The reason behind the 1 star is because I left my ray ban sunglasses there. The next day when I realized, I called and they told me they had them in the safe and to call back at 6pm when the manager was there to come in and get them. When I called back I was told the manager wasn't in and to call back at 9. I wasn't able to go in and get them because they don't open until 4pm and by that time I'm going into work. This went on for a few days. So when I finally got in touch with them they told me they didn't have them. So either they where lost or someone is rocking my new sunglasses. Bartenders are extremely rude except Sasha. You sit down at the bar and immediately asked for a card name tab. Then when I tried to buy a drink for a friend I got chastised because they had a different tab. It's pretty crazy. Going to a bar should be easy not a lot of work. Friendly, warm staff. Beautiful, comfortable design. Approachable food with some fun twists: try the "spicy cauliflower wings!" The small kitchen is open to the restaurant, so the smiling, young chef is very much a part of the experience. They serve food until midnight during the week; rare to find in the south end and very much appreciated for those of us working in the industry. No awards for the trophy room. We read the reviews which gave it an overall 4.3. Seemed like a good number and a safe bet but we were wrong. I guess the reviews focus on it being a terrific late night spot open till 2 AM, and to be honest, we did not have any drinks. And while the menu looks good, everything else was seriously flawed. We had a reservation and walked in slightly ahead of time. The host acknowledged us told to wait a minute - and then took 10 minutes to enter an order into the computer instead of seating us quickly and going back to his task! Once seated at a hightop table (we were told the booths had been reserved by other parties coming in five minutes), it was at least 15 minutes until the host flagged a waitress and sent her over. The waitress was really pleasant and kind. I ordered a latte and it's clear that this place doesn't cater to specialty coffees: It was three fourths espresso and one forth foam. Really tough to drink. I sent it back and got something only slightly better. We ordered our meals and two of us ordered the avocado breakfast toast. I ordered a standard breakfast and we also had one French toast and for the table the blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. The avocado toasts were severely disappointing at $16. They weren't very special - formed on store-bought sliced white bread - and if TWO of them have been on ONE plate, maybe the price would've been justified. Otherwise it felt like a rip off. My standard breakfast had a meager portion of Homestyle potatoes. I ordered eggs over easy and had to send them back because they came to me sunny side up. (The bacon was good!) The French toast was fine as were the blueberry pancakes but the maple syrup was not. It was some glutinous, fake maple syrup, not as advertised. To top it off the waitress apologized early on that the kitchen was backed up. That was hard to understand as it was clearly only half capacity in terms of patrons. They were gracious enough when I pointed out 20 minutes into our visit that the booth still was not taken to reseed us in a booth area so kudos for that. But the place does not act as an establishment that understands service and pleasing customers. The host came over to fill up our water on our request, filled two of our four glasses and then sauntered off to fill other tables before we had to call him back to finish the last two. Again, clueless. Overall, as a bar it may rate to 4.3 but not as a restaurant. The restaurant is attached to the Chandler Inn, so maybe if you think about it as a hotel restaurant you'll have the right impression before going in. For that reason I gave it 2 star rating but a 1.5 would've been more accurate. read more

I love this place! It has a real feel good atmosphere. Great staff, very attentive and pleasant. Awesome signature drinks, delicious and a good pour. But the steak tips hold a special place in my heart. So tasty!!! Cooked to perfection always, and the mashed is amazing with every bite. They did a great job remodeling a few years ago and the decor is awesome. I've been here for drinks and apps before, which were fine but not worth remembering. My friend has a peanut allergy and the chef did come over to speak with her after we placed our order which was very much appreciated and unexpected. My main issue is with the constant smoking outside. I realize they have no control over which patrons smoke, but they need to clean up the butts better. I walk by on a daily basis and it is so disgusting to see the beautiful brick littered with dozens of cigarette butts. People were also apparently using the dirt by the tree outside as an ashtray and it didn't get cleaned up for almost a week! Maybe if Trophy Room wasn't on my walk to work I wouldn't notice or care but since I have to look at it every day, I'd rather support other local businesses that care about the appearance of the neighborhood. read more

I love what they have done with the place. Very comfy seating and a variety of seating. They don't rush you, they are kind. Food wise, the bar fries were yum and the meatballs just ok (hard to compete with my moms so probably not a fair comparison). It was Rupaul drag TV night and people were just having chill fun. I like that this is another gay option and I hope they don't lose being gay or cater too much to straights - we need our culture and places! The Zaget rating was probably before it changed owners, and I give props where props are due, and if you had a great meal here kudos to you. I guess I had a bad day for the restaurant.
