This little gem packs a big punch! Although they are just getting their feet wet (pun totally intended), this shop has a lot of good things going for it. First of all, they have a well rounded collection of corals at beyond reasonable prices, especially when compared to other Cleveland stores. The specimens were all healthy looking and the setups were very clean and all items were clearly labeled! The marine fish selection was limited, but it would appear that all of the fish are put through a QT system!!! All of the fish-geeks out there know just how valuable this step is! I was astounded when I saw the QT room. I am certain that they will be adding to their collection soon, and I am really excited to take advantage of their proactive health measures as soon as I am ready to get my next finned friend. The dry stock was pretty basic at this time, but mind you they just opened and they might have had more hidden. They had the bulbs I was looking for, which is a good sign that they are definitely heading in the right direction with their inventory choices! After perusing the shop I decided to inquire about their maintenance offerings, and was beyond elated to find out that their service rates are awesomely affordable and very thorough ... so I hired them! they came tonight and I will proudly report that they really nailed it. Joel was efficient, timely, and very knowledgeable. He took detailed notes after testing my system and created a course-of-action that works within my budget and time frame. Joel, the owner rescued me from a horrible experience with another local marine aquarium store. They took my money and left me with an unfinished mess in my home. Joel came in, evaluated the poorly installed and unfinished system and made a plan. His follow through was excellent and he proved how a proud retailer can provide real value. If you want to meet the best resource around for marine aquariums where you will be treated fairly, Triton is your place. They are more about bang for your buck rather than just trying to push the most expensive items on you if you need it or not. I highly recommend this store. read more

I stopped up during business hours a few weeks back. The open sign was on but the doors were locked. I waited about 10 minutes. Nothing. I called and left a voicemail with my name and number asking for a call back. Nothing. If this place can't service me as a prospect they'll never service me after I'm a customer. read more

My fiancé and I stopped in the store on June 14, 2019 around 2:30 in the afternoon and the service was beyond horrible. The woman working the front desk never greeted us, she barely ever looked up from her phone to acknowledge us. The coral selection was alright for a small store, the fish selection left a lot to be desired. I've been in many other small hobbits owned and operated stores and I have to say this is the worst. I don't understand how Dan M. can expect a fish store to warranty fish. I have not found one saltwater fish store that warranties fish.Their are so many factors that could have cause the fish to die, improper acclimating, temperature change, dirty tank, how long the fish was in the bag,etc. I have purchased several fish from triton with no problem at all. When does someone's appearance effect how they run their business. If you had an issue with their appearance, there was nothing forcing you to shop there. I have shopped at all the aquarium shops in the Akron, Canton, Cleveland area and I also shop many of the Craigslist sellers who have businesses in their homes and basements. When I first saw their add on Craigslist I thought they were just another person selling from their basement with no prices showing trying to get you to come and maybe buy something. Then I ran across the store by accident. It had only been open for about a month a two and Joel and his wife are so impressive with what they know and what they are doing you cant help but love the place. The prices are good and the store just keeps getting better as they keep increasing the volume. They have always been able to answer any question I've had and they are so friendly. I hate to say it but Joel is actually nicer to me than my own brother. IF your looking for good quality in your saltwater products they hospitalize the fish and make sure each one is eating before they sell anything and all corals get a quality check. I've been in many other stores that are selling you the products as they are unpacking them from where they bought them no thought of the stress on the fish or the corals or your wallet. I would recommend this store to anybody who is into saltwater from beginners to the experienced. It is the best saltwater store that I have found in the area. I never feel good about leaving negative reviews especially for small businesses, but in this case, I feel it is more than justified. Anyone who enjoys marine fish keeping and supports LFS (local fish store) over big-box retailers will understand why this review is so troubling. Small businesses are increasingly frustrated that they lose market share to large corporations while simultaneously refusing to offer even basic courtesies to their customers who will immediately go to the retailer that ingrains customer service into their employees. Triton Marine Aquaculture (Triton) is essentially no exception. Joel and his wife own the company, and both have a near encyclopedic knowledge of their trade. Unfortunately, to extract any information of them comes with eye rolls and passive-aggressive childish behavior even in front of my 10-year-old daughter. Both of them have a fairly menacing appearance being sleeved in tattoos and currently Joel has blue hair which is ridiculous on a grown man. Notwithstanding that, I am not there to be his fashion consultant or his friend. I am a customer and expect to be treated with a certain degree of courtesy and respect. I tolerate their sophomoric behavior because I know that they are a couple of West Coast hipsters basically think they are better than us bumpkin. Moreover, believe me, they treat you that way. My complaint is not about their store which is nice, clean, and well lit. Or even its inventory, which is extraordinary considering the alternative. It is the people that run it who are the problem. I have been supporting the store since they opened taking my young daughter in to show her the fish and we always leave buying something which adds up to several hundred dollars worth of fish all of which have died. I do not need a lecture about tank maintenance, I have been keeping tanks for over 20 years. I use only professional equipment perform regular water changes as well as check the chemistry in the water which is flawless every time. As a matter of fact, there are two big-box retailers that contact me directly to rescue fish when they are dropped off at the store. Suffice to say, I know more than the average person about keeping fish. This past week I purchased a trigger and some miscellaneous other items from Joel and the fish lived for less than 12 hours. This is the second trigger to die that they have sold me yet all of the fish in my tank are healthy and thriving. Call the store the next day when they open at noon and offered to bring the fish back with some water and said that if there was something wrong with my water I would accept the loss however I would like them to replace the fish otherwise. The woman was flabbergasted, literally talk to me like I was an idiot for even suggesting that they would take back the dead fish. Yes, I expect you to take back the fish that died less than 12 hours after you sold it to me. Especially, if I can prove that it was not my water quality that killed the fish. She told me that they're basically the only game in town and that this policy is not uncommon. I don't buy anything without a warranty of some kind, but I expect even if this is their policy that be clearly marked in the store and not just some phantom rule that I should know about. She told me it's on the receipt, you know the receipt that they give you after the purchase. The egregious part is that she told me "oh yeah, you bought that from the quarantine section of the store". What the heck is that? Quarantine? There certainly no signs that say I'm buying potentially sick fish... Maybe these guys will survive in business maybe they won't but I can guarantee you it will never be with another dollar of my money. What really bothered me was left Joel's wife with my number and asked for her to explain the circumstances. To give me a call if they would be willing to work with me considering the fish died just hours after I got it. It's been 48 hours and no call. They clearly don't care about losing my business and they won't care about losing yours given the same circumstances. read more

Joel knowingly sold me a completely bleached and dying long tentacle anemone. My water was perfect quality and I have kept other long tentacle anemones in the same tank before. I went back and confronted him and he tried to convince me that the anemone was supposed to be that color even though white long tentacles don't exist. He took advantage of my naivety and tricked me into buying something he couldn't sell. I would not recommend shopping here to anyone. read more
