The store itself is laid out well, with WIDE lanes to allow us to bring our 4-legged friends with us while we shop. The selection is great. I like how Rumford seems to stay up on new products, especially the smaller US companies. I am a customer who often needs help. The Rumford staff is knowledgeable about their products~ I can ask about a brands of dog or cat food and they can tell me ingredients -grain free, etc. Some of them are able to tell us their own experiences with their own pets, because they use what they sell. My dog is very healthy and I attribute it to her diet. Makes a HUGE difference for them when they eat well. The staff is exceptional at Rumford Pet Express in Smithfield. One day I came in with my large dog and one of the employees walked around with me and collected and carried my dog food because my hands were full with my dog. Really?? Awesome. The staff genuinely cares about our pets. They are engaged and helpful~ never too busy to answer questions, offer suggestions. I adore Gina. She is the best. Here is the BOTTOM LINE: B U Y L O C A L. There was so much paper work and waiting for someone to contact you, we just kept looking in other places and getting the same run around. If there were less paper work and more meeting of the family, than more animals would have good homes. We were told about The Perfect Pet by friends that had a good experience there. We visited the web site and found a puppy we would like to meet. We were met on entering the store by a man named Caleb, We had a good feeling entering the store, it was very clean and also smelled clean. Caleb was very pleasant, and very knowledgeable about our new puppy. There was a room to get acquainted with your new puppy, The other dogs were in their own cubicles they were very clean and seemed happy and safe. Before leaving the store, a lady cradled our puppy in her arms and washed and groomed her. Our puppy is very healthy and happy and adds more love in our home. They all looked very sad and were of mostly the same breed. There were fish tanks filled with algae growth. With aisles were small, it smelled like rabbit pee and there were no rabbits. There were 3 birds, a few betas, one filled fish tank, and the cages of pups. The whole place was a mess with hoses and all sorts of stuff lying around. Also, when you walk in, the door makes the loudest most obnoxious ding I've ever heard. I did not see anyone working there until we tried to walk down the messiest aisle that had a bird out of its cage, and he suddenly appeared and I think he said we're not supposed to go over there. Not really sure. Anyway, this place should probably be closed down.
