The band was playing inside and we decided to sit outside for several reasons. First being the lively view from the porch of the vineyard. Second being the lively weather while sitting on the porch. Third being the general ambiance of being on the porch with the weather and the view. Even with a light sprinkling of rain, it was lovely to hear the pitter patter above while sipping wine. I did a tasting flight that they normally don't offer on Friday nights but since they were busy they offered it. The bartenders were really great. Genuinely kind, funny, and informative. You could tell that they enjoy their jobs. The wine was enjoyable and always fun to do a flight to get a good variety.

They truly care about their patrons and visitors so remember this is a small scale winery, its not about the money, its about the craft, there aren't a bunch of employees running about, this is a local families passion. Have patience and understanding if you go and they seem a bit stretched thin, they just might be, but they are excited you are there, so speak up if you feel neglected, I'm sure its not their intention, ever. Don't be fooled, even though Slack Winery's vineyard isn't located at Woodlawn, it can be found 20 miles down the road on a farm called Jubilee and impressively enough all their wines are made with their estate-grown grapes. Slack Winery is a true Maryland wine experience! If you decide to go, go for an experience, look around, enjoy the scenery, make a new friend, sip the wine and think about what you're tasting instead of gulping it for a buzz, support local, and most of all live in the moment. The prices are a bit high for their bottles but they don't have economy of scale to make them as low as those high producers out in California.

He is extremely friendly, passionate about the wines, and loves to share history with his visitors. He has been growing for other vineyards for years, but just started making his own wine in November 2019. Many times when you go for a tasting, it is clear that there is a set speech. This is definitely not the case with Bryce. He puts his heart into the grapes and the wines! His descriptions are detailed and get you excited about each wine you are tasting! We left with 5 bottles of wine that we can't wait to enjoy! When you stop by the vineyard, don't forget to throw a toy for his dog Happy!

You enter through the gate and head inside to get your wine. The couple running this winery were very nice and helped me pick our four wines to try. I don't like oaky whites or tanniny reds, but was able to find four whites to try: 2024 Sunrise on the James, which was semi-sweet and tart from the blood orange; 2024 Island Time, semi-sweet with a tart pineapple flavor; 2021 Vidal Blanc, which I thought had a funny smell and taste; 2023 River Breeze, which was citrusy but also kind of watery. I sat outside and listened to a talented guitar on the covered patio. The service was top notch, and the owners were really friendly, but I personally didn't like any of the wines I tried.

The grapes are a bit younger (oldest vines about five years) so the flavors are sharp and punchy. There drinkable now but also will age well. They have quite a variety on the tasting menu - from port style, whites and reds. We had a great tasting experience with one of the owners and felt comfortable sitting and drinking wine after our wine tasting. No snacks yet, but they are planning on getting.
