The banner by the store said that they had some 30% deal going on, store was empty, and had two associates on staff. When I came in, they were loudly discussing how someone said something to them and how they were upset ( the usual "she said he said"...). I went to one of the make up stands to see what eye shadow it had. The samples had VISIBLE DUST AND HAIR IN THEM. I went around to more stands, looked at skin care stuff too. Really wished one of them would break from their drama & help me, but no. No other person walked in, I was the only one, but none of them paid any attention. They also never told me about that 30% deal. I came in here before on two occasions & there was this one associate, cute blond young girl, who would always help me. And I bought multiple things both times! And because of her recommendations I made a third purchase online. But this time she wasn't there, and those other associates didn't help me, and I really needed help picking eyeshadows. So I walked out without a purchase. I will not be back!

During one of my routine visits, they detected a melanoma at an early stage, allowing it to be taken care of successfully. I am grateful for their thoroughness and professionalism. One thing that has especially impressed me is the consistency of the care. When my longtime dermatologist, Dr. Byrne, went on leave, I was naturally a little concerned about seeing someone new. But when Dr. Holmes came in, she was every bit as professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough as Dr. Byrne. The entire staff deserves recognition. From the receptionists to the medical assistants to the physicians, everyone is welcoming, courteous, and genuinely caring. The office is spotless, well organized, and runs efficiently. It is not often you can say that a visit to the dermatologist is enjoyable, but that is exactly how I feel about Ringpfeil Advanced Dermatology. If you are looking for outstanding dermatologic care, I highly recommend them.

In a rare bout of experimentation recently, I was all set to pull the trigger on buying some products from Glossier on their website when I saw they had a brick and mortar in Philly and decided to go check it out. And I'm so glad I did! Being able to compare different colors/shades and seeing how they looked on my skin made a huge difference. The ladies in the pink jumpsuits were very friendly and quick to offer recommendations and advice if you ask. My only two critiques: 1. The area right by the front door got very crowded. If you walk a little bit further in towards the back, there were much fewer people with the same exact products to play around with. 2. Some of the samplers needed to be thrown out (dried up, nothing on the bottom). I liked that they had a lot of swabs, makeup remover, and hand sanitizer on hand, but that doesn't really help if the sampler product is useless. They're running a promo now where if you spend over a certain amount, you get a free pink mug!

That said, stores like Target or even Safeway can't sell them, making it a multiple-stop purchase. But, yay anyway, as they have more selection for snacks and non-alcohol beverages than Wawa and the decrepit 7Eleven. It's a 2-level store with groceries on the bottom and everything else on top. It's not a full-service store. Thankfully things weren't locked up requiring staff assistance. Multiple self check outs were available.

I love Target, and the Chestnut Street Philadelphia location is a prime example of how a major…read moreretail brand can adapt to city living without losing what makes it great. I grew up visiting Target in the suburbs, so discovering this location in Philadelphia immediately felt familiar. It maintains the brand's accessibility and comfort while smartly adapting to city life. The store is consistently clean, bright, organized, and well-stocked. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grocery selection is genuinely fresh, and the overall experience feels thoughtful and efficient. What Target does especially well is discernment. The product mix feels curated rather than crowded, with a smart balance of affordability, quality, and style across groceries, home goods, essentials, and private-label products. Their app also stands out, particularly the real-time inventory tools that make pickup and delivery seamless. More broadly, Target is one of the few major retailers that has preserved the strengths of brick-and-mortar shopping while still evolving for modern life. I suspect part of that comes from the company's Minnesota roots and the strong Scandinavian influence embedded in the culture there. You can feel it in the stores: clean layouts, restrained design, thoughtful presentation, efficiency paired with warmth, and an emphasis on functionality without sacrificing quality. It stands apart from most big-box retail in America. The Chestnut Street location embodies that philosophy perfectly. Similar to what brands like Barnes & Noble and Bloomingdale's have done with their urban stores, Target has adapted away from oversized suburban formats in certain city environments without sacrificing the core experience. The nearby location by the Barnes Foundation is excellent as well. It's larger than the Chestnut Street store but not a sprawling mega store, making it especially well-suited for city living while still offering a broader inventory and the convenience of free parking. Both locations feel like thoughtful adaptations of the traditional suburban retail model rather than watered-down versions. As parents, we've also been consistently impressed by Target's private-label products. Their diapers, formula, yogurt pouches, peanut butter, dairy products, pasta, and other everyday essentials have all been of excellent quality at prices meaningfully lower than those of many national brands. Target's Philadelphia stores demonstrate how thoughtful, adaptable retail can succeed in urban environments while preserving the core values that built customer loyalty in the first place. Highly recommended!

I wanted an actual in person opinion before dropping that kind of money. I asked an associate about a few options, told her what I've used before, what I was looking for, just trying to give context. It was busy, so I get that it's hectic. But she was clearly over it. Eyes glazing over, super short responses, that vibe where someone is already tired of you and you just started talking. She basically pointed at one product and kind of brushed me off. The frustrating part is I was already leaning toward that exact serum. I just wanted confirmation or a little insight. Instead I felt like I was inconveniencing her for asking basic questions in a store that literally sells beauty advice as part of the experience. Sephora is already pricey, so the whole reason I went in instead of ordering online was for guidance. If I'm going to get treated like that, I might as well just click buy from home next time. Cashiers were nice though. So at least checkout didn't feel awkward.
