The selection here was a bit of a shocker in that they have most of the Creed collection (or a lot of it I should say). The same stuff you'll find at Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales... minus the commute. I was really surprised to see it, but not at all surprised when the sales rep tried to sell me the most expensive thing on the shelf from the get go. Blue Mercury has few brands compared to other stores, but those brands run deep in selection. I'm not a fragrance expert, but I know a few a things. A couple of their brands may be designer in general, but I think the fragrance houses fit in the niche category... I'm talking Creed, Diptyque, Chanel, Jo Malone, Tom Ford, and Acqua Di Parma. I'd say they range toward the high-end without going all the way. The staff was helpful and kind enough to whip up a couple of samples for me. Much obliged! Overall, I'd say Blue Mercury is the upper echelon of fragrance in Philly (not necessarily exclusively...), It checks off a box that helps define Walnut Street as a destination for shopping. They make you feel comfortable and respected, and that consistency over five years and across different providers says a lot about the practice.

But, yay anyway, as they have more selection for snacks and non-alcohol beverages than Wawa and the decrepit 7Eleven. It's a 2-level store with groceries on the bottom and everything else on top. I had never heard of Blue Mercury and being a dedicated Sephora/Ulta girl I was curious too see how they stacked up. The store is very nicely laid out, the products beautifully displayed and the associate I talked to was quite friendly. I could see immediate differences that set Blue Mercury apart. First where as all of them have makeup brand reps that will do brows, lashes and make overs at their counters and just as Ulta has a full on hair salon, BM has a spa which is definitely cool. Also, BM is stocking brands you can only find in better department stores like Nordstrom and Saks. Brands like Tocca, Aerin, Claus, etc. And last, they have an amazing variety of candles and fragrance diffusers for your home.
