Went in on a Saturday afternoon after doing way too much research on eyelash serums. I'm talking Reddit deep dives and hours on Google. I wanted an actual in person opinion before dropping that kind of money. I asked an associate about a few options, told her what I've used before, what I was looking for, just trying to give context. It was busy, so I get that it's hectic. But she was clearly over it. Eyes glazing over, super short responses, that vibe where someone is already tired of you and you just started talking. She basically pointed at one product and kind of brushed me off. The frustrating part is I was already leaning toward that exact serum. I just wanted confirmation or a little insight. Instead I felt like I was inconveniencing her for asking basic questions in a store that literally sells beauty advice as part of the experience. Sephora is already pricey, so the whole reason I went in instead of ordering online was for guidance. If I'm going to get treated like that, I might as well just click buy from home next time. I visit once a year usually around my birthday. I have chemical sensitivity and migraines but like to treat myself to a new carefully selected fragrance. I was greeted upon entering. I approached a team member in the makeup section and asked for assistance with a new fragrance. The nice young lady referred me to Ms Dorthy who was a few steps away. It was busy and she kindly held that area down. I mentioned that I have Gucci Blossom from a while back but started triggering migraines. I have DK Good Girl which I would need to spray way in advance. Marc Jacob Daisy is my most recent. As I grew older the Spider Senses became stronger. Lol Ms Dorthy suggested several fragrances. I went with a travel of a Jo Malone. I am not built for the cold and spoke with Kimberly about hair hydration. I went with her recommendation of a Briigeo Travel Kit. Kind recommendations. The wide variety of make up and skincare at this location is really good. However, every time I go into this place it feels chaotic and overwhelming. Usually there are enough customers in here ( due to the location being in downtown), but there are as many employees in here and I feel like half of them are either chatting with other employees or looking at their phones. Thank you Kelly and Sephora for making my birthday extra special! I went to Sephora to pick up my birthday gift. Kelly was at the door with hand sanitizer and giving info about the safety protocols. There was hand sanitizer available, customers were limited, and staff had masks and gloves. It felt safe. I noticed the birthday rewards were at the table. I told her today was my birthday and I was here to pick up my reward. Kelly was super sweet with birthday wishes especially when she found out that day was my birthday! The store is not crowded, counters are wiped down and people are wearing masks, it feels very safe. I've started placing a lot of online orders from purchases in store which gets me free shipping and purchases usually arrive in 2 to 3 days! I would love to get a few more samples in my online orders, but I've been really enjoying doing that, because they have a lot of great products online that aren't in the store. [648] This busy Center City Chestnut Street location is in the perfect spot for lunchtime shopping. The store was recently reorganized so it may be hard to find things at first. They have a few makeup stations which look cool. You can find tons of makeup and perfume options at this store. I usually have good customer service but today it was not so good. Stopped in for perfume, lip gloss and eye makeup remover. Tons of staff just standing around. I asked the one guy for help on finding the eye makeup remover. He sent me to the wrong side of the room. I asked another associate to help me and she pointed me to the shelf and walked away. The shelf was empty behind the sample. Asked another person to look in the drawer for more of the correct size item. Score. I asked another staff person to help me find the correct color lip glass but she gave me the wrong color. I'm glad I opened the box. Never was able to purchase the lip gloss since they were out of stock. It just sucks because I'm spending over $150+ and I feel like hunting employees down. Will I be back? I love Sephora's in general but they can be so hit or miss. I have to say that for me, this branch was a hit. Big enough that I didn't feel choked or hit numerous shopping baskets while trying to move down an aisle. And the weekend crowd was pretty decent, the place was by no means empty. I was in the market for a new fragrance and there was enough space for me to really take my time with the testers (I am so picky but love vanilla). When I picked one out I remembered I needed a concealer but didn't know where to start (I always get a little overwhelmed when it comes to base makeup). One of the salespeople was immediately available to show me some things, colour match me and show me proper application techniques (they applied concealer under one eye and talked me through applying it myself under other). I definitely appreciated their taking the time to give me a mini tutorial. He did the same for a lip liner (Lancôme for the win!!). I didn't feel like any products were being forced down my throat. This is the first time I've been to a Sephora on a weekend and the line was snaking around. Wonderfully pleasant experience all around. It's writhing walking distance of my home so I will definitely be back (need eye cream soon). read more

This Sephora is still as good as always. I came here this morning to buy some items. The entire store is under renovation. So it is completely rearranged, and canvas sheets hanging everywhere. But, they still have a great display up and lots of products to choose from. Sephora is famous for giving your samples. They will make you up to three samples per visit of certain items that you'd like. Which is nice. They always have new and beautiful items. As well as I was able to find a few tried-and-true products that I wanted . Of course Sephora has their levels of reward cards. I have the red card, which gives you the most amount of product rewards. In a way that means I spent far too much money there over the years. Hahaa, however I am a fan of treating yourself well . You gain your rewards by shopping in store and also online. They're very good with their online delivery most times. Sometimes they cheat you on your samples when you order online . But all in all it's a great store went great rewards, and lots of products to choose from. They will give you a paper receipt, or email your receipt, or both. That's nice. read more

The store was open for limited hours on July 4 and the store was a bit empty. They had the Sephora Favorites Summer Hair Saviors which I haven't seen in the NYC stores yet and it was sold out online. I have been here a couple of times now. Every time, I had a very normal experience where I would ask someone for help about makeup and they would just give me the "right" amount of information and leave. My last visit was super productive and I found exactly what I was looking for as one of the store employees was very helpful and spent about 15 minutes with me to make sure I found the right product. After a bad experience at Ulta, which is two blocks away from here, I was happy that I got to talk to someone at Sephora about a product I was looking for. The store is neatly organized and looks trendy. It is definitely pricier than Ulta as they carry high end products. Depends on what kind of products you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend. Also, the store employee that helped me out told me to ask for samples at the checkout, but the lady at the counter seemed to not care about it. I just got makeup done here this past weekend and Shaniqua(sp?) did it and she did an amazing job. I am pretty particular about my makeup but also like to see what artists like to do with my face. She listened to what works on me and also did what she thought was best. She even had the senior makeup artist take a look to make sure everything was perfect. Was in several times in the last 3 weeks. Good selection, spacious store, plenty of staff. However customer service was sadly lacking. Staff was hanging out in groups of 2 and 3 gossiping. Others were trying on makeup on themselves. I actually had to wait for an employee to finish applying her makeup before I could use the mirror. The product I came in to buy was out of stock. They only had the tester. I asked for a sample and was told quite loudly " ohhhh we don't give samples of that sorry" She did not suggest another product. Made an appointment for my makeup to be done before my engagement photo shoot. I selected "any artist" even though it gave me the option between 2 people, telling me that they had multiplayer openings. I got a call day of, saying my artist had an emergency and they had to cancel my appointment. I didn't bring all of my makeup into the city because I had this booked. I go in anyway hoping they can help me, and they can't do a single thing to remedy the position they put me in. I understand emergencies happen, but how did they go through and select who was a lesser priority when I know they had more openings when I booked? The main reason I never shopped there is bc I don't wear makeup but I walked in due to a bad experience with an employee at Ulta. But this woman (who I'd rather call bitch) made me feel like the ugliest person ever to be in her presence or in the store. I was trying to find something to help me with problem areas I have with breakouts and blackheads, and the first thing she says is that I have hormone issues and that's what's causing the breakouts on my chin, or they are cysts under my skin and she knows this bc she had one so that's my problem too. Worst sephora I've ever been to. The staff were not friendly. One asked me half heartedly if I needed help. Should've noted how lethargic she was because when I asked for help with finding hair products, she just said they didn't have a product that would work on countering oily scalp and slightly damaged ends. When I pointed out some christophe robin products I had been looking at, she then went "oh, yeah, i guess those would work" and then left. Cashiers also not friendly and looked like they didn't want to be there. On a particularly difficult day I showed up late to an appointment to have my makeup done for an evening work event. To say that I showed up a mess doesn't accurately describe how dismantled I must have come off. In a word - frazzled. PJ, the makeup artist with beautiful flowers in her hair, not only made my skin glow and eyes glitter with her astounding artistic talent, but she also she calmed me down and thus I left the store a woman transformed. PJ also did my entire face of makeup with false eyelashes in 25 minutes, because I showed up late and was an all around terrible customer. She is a miracle worker. PJ is so talented and so kind, I hope she runs Sephora one day. 5 stars for you, PJ !! read more

BEWARE To anyone who looks too casually dressed and is minding their own business: Went to this Sephora and had two medium sized bags: my bag I always carry with me to hold my beauty essentials / keys / phone/ wallet and another bag to hold reusable shoppings bags as I wanted to go grocery shopping and an umbrella bc it was raining. My bags weren't huge. I was also wearing a medium sized jacket that wasn't too baggy. Noticed the staff following me 2 seconds into the store bc I had two bags and a denim jacket. I was weirded out so I tried to make it obvious I had no intention of stealing by remaining in areas where they could watch me, it didn't matter and I was still followed around. I went to look in the mirror and felt fat bc of my weird denim jacket, took it off and folded it to a smaller size to put in my bag. Checked in the mirror again and felt better as I have body dysmorphia. At this point they were convinced I was stealing bc I *probably* had something in my jacket's pockets and was now hiding it in my bag. Then I went to return my concealer as I only had it for a month then I noticed it was the wrong shade. Before I had gone, I made sure to check Sephora return policy bc I am a newbie and wasn't sure. the rules were ambiguous but it was 30 days, so I just decided to try and see; if they didn't accept it I would just keep it for my under eyes. Reached into my bag that kept my beauty essentials for the concealer I wanted to return and told the cashier that the receipt should be be on my beauty insider acct as I had checked my account to make sure it was on there. My wallet that carried the original receipt was stolen lol. She pulled up my beauty insider account but barely glanced at the screen before shrilly replying no it's not on there. I guess she thought I stole it and was trying to return it; I Was confused and gave her the date and she found it. She checked the amt of the concealer and took a *long* time to inspect it and consulted the manager. They denied me the refund bc the amt was below the acceptable and I was like okay it's not a big deal. I accepted my fate and just noted it for future reference for any returns. What is a big deal is that I was suspected to be stealing and was watched like a hawk by the associates and the security guard. Even after I had gone to the trouble of making sure they could see my every move it didn't matter and I was a suspect the whole time. I had gone to the store before with professional clothes and the same two bags, and was given great service. I was even on friendly terms with some of the associates AND the security guards!! This time I had gone there with casual clothes and tight exercise pants and I guess they didn't recognize me and my shoddy presentation spelled out "will definitely steal bc that person doesn't look put together". I felt humiliated, discriminated, and just overall really really upset. I cried the whole way home and felt disheartened by the experience. I started taking an interest in makeup later in my life and love Sephora for being able to try on before purchasing and have an extensive wish list!! I am never coming back to this Philadelphia chestnut st location and it will take me a while before I can place an order online bc of my bad experience. I will just shop at ulta now. I am the type of customer that absolutely hate it when the beauty experts/sales person force the customer into buying products and especially sales person who will just rudely left that customer if they see the customer isn't interested in buying the product anymore. I came to this store to learn about contouring. Chanelle took the time to let me try on several different products. She was more focus on which products work best for me and if I like them. She wasn't focus on getting me to buy them. She's very friendly and gave me lots of tips. This store needs to do a better job at making sure its employees are always on their toes to help out their customers. Also, if customers ask for your assistance, do not just leave them after directing them to their desired product.
