My best friend and I booked the Eau de Parfum experience at Loomen Labs. We bought the sample package which included perfume making for 1 hour and 30 mins and three 10ml samples. The doors won't open until 5 minutes before your reservation time so I stood outside the entrance and waited until the doors were unlocked. Overall, the experience was fine but I felt like I wasn't given enough attention because there were larger parties/others who purchased the more expensive deluxe package at our reservation. My friend was running a bit behind due to an accident on 95. Loomen Labs has a grace period of 10 minutes. The woman working there said after 10 minutes it would be considered a reschedule. My friend arrived after 10 minutes and the employee said I would have to catch her up to speed on everything on my own. Again, I totally didn't mind doing this. Towards the end, it felt like the experience was rushed. The woman working there was not enthusiastic about anything and answered questions with a slight attitude. I could feel the energy shifting as the night went on. After I got my perfume alcohol mixed in with my preferred scents, I filled up the 10ml sample bottles. It turned out to be enough perfume to fill only two and a half. The third one was only halfway full. Not sure where I went wrong with that. The interior is tiny and the tables are not that far apart so that's something to consider if you book on a busier day with other guests present. read more

Decided to come here for a a birthday outing to make perfumes. The place was a little tiny, so you were up on each other a bit. The fragrances offered were nice but I wish there were more options. The class was supposed to last about 1 1/2 hours, but we were about 30 minutes over. I think the young lady who was running the place needed a little more assistance, she was doing a lot just to be by herself (making sprays, getting things for perfume prep, cleaning up, etc.) Do I think the value was worth $100? No....granted, I'm sure oils are pricey, product, running a store, etc is expensive but I think $100 was just a little extreme for the bottle we did. I wanted to love this place, and I'm all for supporting small businesses but this one left a lot to be desired. Especially when you're paying more than $60 for a single candle. The experience was fun even though the girl helping us was not pleasant to be around and honestly kind of rude. But we got past it. The candle itself is extremely poor quality. When we made our vessel, we were told the overflow material would be removed. It was broken off and the candle doesn't even sit flat on a surface. It looks so bad. After trying to get in touch with someone from the business multiple times I decided to burn the candle anyway. It does not burn nicely and it ruined the vessel as it was burning in. Not only was this a poor product but the customer service was abysmal. Save your money, don't go here. read more

I booked the EAU DE PARFUM SAMPLE PACKAGE to do this with my bestie for a Galentine's weekend date. Place is tiny but cute. If fully booked, you wont have much room between tables. The perfume experience or any experience at this place would be more enjoyable if: 1) the person teaching/giving instructions isn't moody/rude when people ask her questions. 2) Not have multiple (different sessions) going on at the same time. 3) Having only (1) person teaching said (multiple) sessions at the same time (maybe this is why she was moody..who knows?!) There was the following scheduled on the same session: 2 people doing Candle Making (just scent/wax) 2 people doing Candle Making with Vessel 4 people doing the Perfume sample package 4 people doing flower bouquets Because there was so much going on, us perfume girls didn't start or get instructions until about 20 mins later. When we were finally mixing oils, trying to figure out what we liked, we still had to wait for the instructor to mix them for us, sample it, etc. Waiting on those, we were also rushed to select our fragrance because our session was ending and a new one was about to start. I am pretty sure that if we had started with instructions right away, we would've decided on a fragrance we loved a lot sooner. Oh, and they state BYOB and they are but make sure to bring your own cups and bottle opener too, they don't have anything. Not sure I'll be back for another experience. read more

Amazing...Loved the experience and will definitely be coming back Made reservations online and arrived about 30 minutes early because I figured I'd have a tough time finding parking and lucked up and found one right on the street. Metered parking and there's a parking lot across the street. Was seated and waited for the other parties to arrive and we began our experience. Everything was explained to us and there was a set up at each table for each person. You're given the option to select which oils (up to 3) you want to combine. I selected the manifestation experience and received sage and was able to add crystals to the candle before it dried. They also allowed us to select which jar we wanted and if we wanted our candle to be colored or not. We ended up naming our candle, waited (walked around) about 30mins and returned to our candles and waited 24 hrs before burning; the smell was so amazing. This is definitely a nice experience to do with friends or kids or hell by yourself. Inside they offer flavored seltzer. It's a calming and relaxing energy you receive when you walk inside. I really wanted to love my perfume making experience but there was definitely some pain points. We paid $50 to make a perfume bottle which ended up being sample size skinny containers that you typically get for free. The scent options were minimal and while they might have been great for candle scents, they weren't really fit for perfumes - like I rather not smell like sandalwood or mango, me personally. The service was subpar I am guessing the instructor was the owner but she never introduced herself or made conversation. When we asked questions we were referred to the brochure. While she was not necessarily mean, I don't believe you should be in customer service if you are not a people person. At the end my friend and I were talking and she told us we could leave and the session ended. I really had higher hopes for this business and class and hope that they will use the constructive feedback provided in this review and others to become better business owners. read more

I went for a friend's birthday. We felt rushed the whole entire time. We had a recommendations for 7 but they had table for 5. Thank God one person did not show up. The Host said that we had a 10 minute Grace period but proceeded before the grace period had ended. They need more of a variety of scents. Most of the scents smells like candles or plug ins for your house, not like something I would wear on my body. My birthday is next month and I wanted to give this place a try. Checked out the new Candle & Seltzer Bar last Saturday on Grand Opening weekend and had a great time. The two friendly staff members checked us in and got us settled as we arrived. Candle kits were laid out ahead of time on the tables for each guest. When the entire class was finally checked in and everyone has settled down, the staff member went over the candle making steps with us. First, we picked out our candle jars in the back of the store. The handmade jars were super cute, and only an extra $5. Next, we were able to select the fragrances we wanted for our candle. There is quite a variety of fragrances to choose from. And you can mix and match, so get creative! The staff members were very patient and helpful. There was ample time for each person to select their jars, smell every single fragrance and create their own. Once we have our candle jars, and fragrances ready, the staff members walked around giving each person their melted wax. They also let you know the temperatures to mix/stir your fragrance into the melted wax and then pour the mixture into the candle jar. Each table gets their own thermometer gun. After that, the candle needs a few hours to cool. You can hang out at the store until it's ready or pick up your candle on a later date. Loomen Labs provide board games for customers who choose to wait at the store. Since it was opening weekend, each guest also got a complimentary mimosa to enjoy during the candle making experience and a succulent to take home. read more

This shop has such a neat concept and is a nice addition to the city! It's cozy, smells nice, run by an amazing couple, and has the perfect balance of fool-proof with hands-on activity to make for a fun date. The process is pretty simple: you can make a reservation online or walk-in and snag any available spot. There's a little area for homemade seltzers that you can customize based on available flavors--which is a little expensive for what it is, but it is a unique idea. The candlemaking is obviously super fun and they definitely put a lot of work into making it easy for anyone to do. You pick out your candle vessel, then based on your vessel you select oils up to a certain volume in your little graduated cylinder. They offer you a cute custom label to put your name and all the scents you selected so you'll know which one is yours! Pre-heated wax and your choice of color is brought to your table and you basically wait until the wax cools enough to mix your scent and then pour it into the vessel. If you're particularly fast and there's not another party waiting for a seat, there are also board games you can play for a bit, but ultimately you'll have to come back for your candle which takes at least 2 hours to set. Ultimately, I thinks this is a great place to start a weekend morning in the city and swing back around before you go home, but if there was something a little more to it, it could be even better! Came here with 3 friends and our experience was so-so. We purchased our tickets for the 1 hour candle making and seltzer at 7pm. Before getting into the details I will say (without being an authority on the topic) they have high quality candle wax and the scents offered are all great. The inside of the shop is very nicely decorated. I can't tell you about the seltzer because I never got any but my friend said hers was good but went flat quickly. The shop is BYOB which is nice. The host made us feel like we inconveniencing her at every step of the way during our 1 hour there but the candle making. Her fiancé who played a more behind the scenes role was nice in our limited interaction Our group of 4 got there and there was not a table to fit us 4 so I asked the woman if we could pull 2 tables together. I might have well burned the place down with her own candles from the reaction I got from her but she reluctantly said ok and we pulled the tables together. Keep in mind there were 2 other groups there and I made sure I was not blocking anyones path and there was ample walking space still in case of emergency. All I wanted was to sit with my friends. We went to chose our scents which was fun and they have a lot of lovely scents to choose from. We chose a pot for our candle and they have more options for an additional fee. Upgrade your wick for an additional fee. She educated us about candle process and the poured our wax into our chose pot. At this point I'll say that it is her job as the host of this experience to provide us with a good and warm experience. The setting was lovely but her energy was flat and she made us feel like we were bothering her by merely being in the shop. The whole experience felt rushed and we didn't even get to finish the drinks we brought. After the wax was poured, we were then politely told to leave and come back another day to pick up our candles because the shop closed before our candles would set. News to us as we expected to leave with them. She was very adamant on getting her payment for the upgrades I got (stone pot+wood wick) but I realized after the fact that she was not as adamant in providing me with the seltzer that was included with my ticket. I included images of the candles we got. Cute labels but you can see in the one the label was miss-cut. The devil is in the details. If I could give this zero stars I absolutley would. I attended with a party of six. It was the first candle making experience for some. I've made candles several times before at other places and it was always a great time. NOT AT LOOMEN! It was absolutely terrible. The staff (Jordan) was very rude. She appeared to not want to be at work this day. She didn't want to repeat instructions. She got an attitude if you asked questions. She took away the oil cylinders from some of our guest and we had to request that she return them. She just appeared very annoyed the entire time. The process wasn't explained in detail. She told us to talk to our party hostess (the one that booked the experience) to learn about what we were doing. In the past, other candle making places had a small fragrance card where we could write down the fragrances that we selected. Loomen labs did not do that so there was no way to recreate our scent if we wanted to. It was an overall horrible experience. I would not return and definitely would not recommend. There are soooooo many other candle making places in the city and the experience is top tier. Go someplace else! read more

What should have been an enjoyable candle making experience was dampened by her poor attitude, lack of enthusiasm for her work and poor customer service skills. Jordan if you're reading this--please know that you have a pretty cool business concept. You just shouldn't be the face of it. Hire someone that actually enjoys interacting with humans. I was really excited to make perfume as it's something I've never done. My friends and I booked the whole place for my friends birthday & because some of us were running 15 minutes late they said we'd have to reschedule bc there was only a 10 minute grace period, despite being the only people there for the rest of the day. My friends went back and forth with the employee/instructor until she agreed to extend the time to 15 minutes. Everyone arrived within that 15 min window except 3 of my friends--who were told they couldn't mix their own perfume even though we all began mixing at the same time + paid for the service ahead of time. The staff was extremely rude, unaccommodating, and did not provide everyone with everything needed-- we had to ask for basic tools + instructions. The scents were also subpar. We're able to mix as many scents as we wanted but there were only 3-4 scents i actually liked. We paid $50 expecting to make 3 different perfumes but instead it was 3 minis of the same perfumes. It didn't make sense why they would advertise as such. Overall, it's a great concept but they need to hire new staff, fix their overall view of service provided, & provided actually decent scents. I've worked in the service industry before so my friends and I were very kind but this was the WORST customer service I've ever received. It actually left us BAFFLED. I hosted my college best friend & her boyfriend visiting from NYC for the weekend and this was one of our non-food activities we decided to do. I experienced the candle making before and that experience was great which is why I thought making our own fragrances would be as well. Right from the start the energy was iffy from the instructor and I get not being a people person and what not however this is not the job for you especially after reading the other reviews and finding out she's the owner/founder. It was a total of 5 people in the FIRST time slot at 1pm. Im emphasizing is because the energy we received was as if we were the last group of the day and she wanted to go home. Like on this day I understood the Karens because OMG for that price point and time we wanted to make sure we left happy with what we made. But no she'd come around ask us if we were ready for the next step and when we'd kindly decline saying we are still indecisive about the scents it felt like she was so bothered by that MIND YOU WE ARE MAKING EVERYTHING while we is on her Macbook eating. I asked for assistance when making my fragrance because I was overwhelmed with being rushed and even that was pulling teeth mind you she was fully helping the two older ladies next to us. At the end we left with our bottles rushed out because the next group was "waiting" no one was outside. As for the product itself it doesn't last for more than an hour even though it's marketed as Eu de parfum granted the amount of alcohol we dumped into the bottle i'm not suprised. As for my friend she's using it as a linen spray, A $100 LINEN SPRAY, that's crazy if you ask me. In search of a fun outing for our staff to decompress after a long school year, someone suggested we try this place. I had never heard of it or the concept but thought it would be a fun and unique experience so we booked a private party. I felt the process of scheduling was a little challenging as it is 100% online. If you try to call, they refer you to their website for everything. I feel like you should be able to speak with someone at some point. Not everyone is tech savvy. Although I am, there was some back and forth and missed emails before a date was successfully confirmed. This was frustrating. The place is nice and quaint. There were 2 women that was there to greet us upon arrival. One was warm & fuzzy and the other one not so much. To this day I'm not exactly sure who the other woman is except that her name was Jordan as there was NO formal introduction but based on the previous reviews I'm left to believe she is possibly an owner. She was professional and guided us through the candle making process seamlessly but without so much of a smile and very little engagement. We felt as though everything was done as a formality and not necessarily done out of love or passion. I'm no psychologist and you NEVER know what's going on with a person but my gut feeling tells me that she has a lot on her mind and was really just going through the motions during our visit. What a fun experience! I went in with a friend to make candles and was impressed with how nicely the shop was decorated and how lovely it smelled! The owner was very thoughtful explaining the process and steps - it was very easy to be make our own candle. They have lots of different scents to choose from which made the process very fun. Their usual fragrances along the wall are all named after Philadelphia neighborhoods - which I thought was a nice touch. We also tried the seltzer experience, where you can pick a fruit flavor to be added to a seltzer and have something to drink while making candles. They offered edible straws for the seltzers too. I was intentionally looking for a black owned candle company to spend an evening in the city with my sister and cousin to relax and enjoy a new creative experience. Though the policy was read regarding their grace period of 10 min and we received an email reminder 3 hours prior, nothing prepared us to be greeted by a city street festival that was right in front of store. A member of my party was looking for parking which I communicated to the staff prior and when my party member arrived the owner came out very condescending with no regard towards our party. I happened to buy an additional candle for $20 and had I not, my party member would have been unable to make a candle that she prepaid for $40 with a 20% tip prepaid. I understand policies but no consideration was made to external factors (i.e., the festival and barricades ) that adversely impacted the commute and parking. Its a beautiful establishment; however, the owner whom I believe addressed us could have been more understanding. At the end of the day, the owner gained $170 with 3 guests but her demeanor was very unprofessional and lessened the ambiance of our experience. I sadly won't be returning. read more

We had a girl host and she was miserable the whole time made it seem like we were inconveniencing her. She didn't smile once and wasn't friendly at all. Super rude host. 2 people did arrive late and wasn't allow to make candles while the group didn't even start yet, and we had idle time where we sat and did absolutely nothing for 40 mins. All you had to do was pick a scent, pour wax in and that was it which probably took 10 mins to do. I would not recommend this place honestly just wasn't a fun energy or vibe. It is impressive how Loomen Labs holds high commitments to protect the environment, and they really do try everything they can to avoid plastics!!! I made my favorite Spring Garden scent candle in their store recently with nothing plastic, and drank handcrafted seltzer with a compostable cup. The experience far exceeded my expectation - the process was enjoyable, the candle made with my own hands was so high-quality, and the seltzer was yummy! Even better, all of these will help to plant a tree in Philadelphia as Loomen Labs committed so. I definitely will go back to their store. read more

Went here with four other friends. We were in Philly for the weekend and passed by the shop and were so intrigued we went online and booked a spot for the next day. The candle process is easy and accessible for anyone to do, and the shop owner is so sweet. The store itself supports an amazing cause by planting a tree for each person who makes a candle. My friends and I all had an amazing time, full of laughs and we had fun smelling each other scent creations. I also thought the price was extremely reasonable at $30 per person. I have spent that that much on a candle itself that I did not make and have a fun experience. I think this place would also be amazing for a bachelorette party and would host mine here if I lived closer. read more

Went here with my partner as a surprise gift. Overall, it was a really unique experience. I was surprised that despite requiring vaccination cards, we still had to keep our masks on unless we were actively drinking. This alone would've been fine but seemed illogical as the experience progressed since everyone was in a very small space with their masks off in order to smell the scents. The space is very quaint, so I think I would've liked it more if, for example, four people at a time went to the area to pick their scents rather than it being a free for all. I wouldn't recommend the seltzer "experience" unless you are happy with paying $5 for flavored seltzer that is made for you. I love that the owners were the ones running the class. However, the woman was somewhat standoffish and difficult to engage with. I also wish her fiancé took a more active role as I was unsure if I could even ask him questions throughout the process. I would've loved to learn more about what sets their product apart such as the oils/holders/wicks they use compared to those in candles you can buy at any store. I loved that it's a BYOB spot and they provide games while you wait for your candles. I think it's great setting for a date or night out with friends! read more
