The doors were opened and there were balloons and decor and music playing if I recall correctly and there were people gathered inside and flowing onto the outside. I was first greeted by the owner's mother and then by other guests attending the opening day festivities that evening. It was such a nice surprise. I received a whole run down of how the shop worked and was able to make a candle for myself from scratch. It was so delightful to get to meet new and interesting people. I did not know anyone there and Beth the owner, along with her friends and family made me feel so welcomed. What I love most is the premise of the business. Each candle has an affirmation on it . I think I have tried all of them except for "Daring" and gifted one to my parents. The idea is that scent is linked to emotion and memory and that you connect positive experiences and affirmations via the scent to elicit this happy hormone response within your body. I recall her telling me that her sister was the one who was able to speak to the science of it and she (Beth) was the brains behind it in terms of creating scents and the affirmations. I have to say that those candles really helped me immensely, especially during a time that I needed encouragement and motivation the most. I started out using them in Philadelphia and then ordered from the store to have them shipped to me when I lived in Virginia. I would light the candle and then meditate on the affirmation that was printed on the label. It doesn't go without saying that the candles themselves smell absolutely amazing. They aren't like generic or overly nauseating by any means. All of the scents are natural and not overpowering or overwhelming. Some are a bit stronger than others. My particular favorite is "Radiant" because it has notes of grapefruit and peppercorn. It has the revitalizing scent to it whereas my other favorite is "Connected". That one has this softness to it that reminds me of a subtle musk with a powdery touch. I also like that there are custom made matches you can order as well. I felt lucky that they were included with my order complimentary on that grand opening day. It has been maybe about a year or so since ai first ventured into that store and I have been hooked on those candles ever since. So much so that I feel reluctant getting other kinds. I used to be a devout Sand & Fog fan, Bath and Body Works Candle Sale fan, and Voluspa fan, but now I prefer State of Being candles more than those. You can just tell they are high quality candles and I am a fan. They are a bit costly, but you get what you pay for so they are a good value I think. The scents last for a long time. Some scents are more powerful than others, but I prefer the fragrance to be somewhere in the middle, enough to make me notice is there, but no so strong that it is overpowering. You can tell that they are made with love and that is what I appreciate the most. The good vibes and energy that go into them when they are made. I like to think that when I light them up, that good vibes and energy are radiating out from them:) And it acts like energetic medicine ^_^ So, I will continue to buy from them as long as I can afford them lol but highly recommend! They also apparently do workshops and other fun events now as well. I am subscribed to their newsletter so I get to hear all about what I am missing out on lol but if you are ever in Philly and in the area, I encourage you to stop by if you are into fragrances at all, into spiritual/metaphysical stuff like me, and wish to be in good company. There are few spaces out front on the street but best bet is to park in the lot across the street. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very receptive to my son. I first came across Room 244 during their 2nd First Friday event, and since then I've seen their walls filled with Japanese influenced art, surreal art with farm animal motifs, a craft bazaar, Eclectic sculpture art from Hannah Dancing, and more. The two sisters who own it do a good job of collaborating with diverse artists and showcasing a number of events that don't just happen on the first Friday of the month. But when they're not hosting their own events, Room 244 is a space that caters to events of all types. Sometimes there might be a game night, and on others the Boss Group might host a UX Designer Networking Event. But if you're looking to host a group meeting, throw a surprise party, throw an art show with some musicians, or other; all you need to do is shoot them a message on their website, and you might just be able to throw it together!

The tables and seating fit our group of 20 pretty comfortably. There was plenty of space for everyone to move around while we had big tables set up for food. The outdoor space was picturesque but it was raining so we didn't get to use it much, but we were able to put together a nice photo spot right at the front. Laura was easy to communicate with and very responsive whenever I texted her. She was super flexible with my schedule and made it easy to see the place, plan the layout for the party, and let us come extra early for setting up. She even helped us put up a big banner with my mom's picture on it! My mom and all the guests had a great time, and the art was a conversation starter. Thanks again!

There were *maybe* 5 booths up and 1 food truck. For how heavily advertised it was I was expecting A LOT more. It's also a bit hard to find because it's basically in a random parking lot, however there are signs and balloons that lead the way. Things did not look good as we walked up. HOWEVER, as I told my friend as we were approaching and she was expressing regret and disappointment, "don't judge a market by it's dinkiness." We ended up getting some awesome Philly pictures that were reasonably priced. All the merchants were really nice and actually wanted to talk to you, but weren't pressuring like vendors can sometimes be. There was a guy that makes cool stuff out of forks and spoons, and some really great Nicaraguan pots. As for the food truck, it was "Say Cheese" a grilled cheese truck, so we couldn't resist and got the truffled mac and cheese (amazing) and the buffalo bleu sandwich (equally awesome). The one vendor said that this event had a lot more vendors and trucks the first week and has been slowly dwindling (maybe because of the weather, some streets closed, or other festivals and things going on). I hope that's the case, and maybe I'll check it out again if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

We had a lot of fun just looking around and talking to some artists. I like that it's like a hidden gem and no one is overly pushy and it's not so crowded you can't get browse or talk to the artists/vendors. That was my one ish with some of the other fests that I've been to. It was a great way to spend a few hours on the weekend, plus there are some pretty decent food truck choices which is always bonus. I think they may change up the food trucks a lot because they were different both times I went. Definitely going again.
