Yep, I've bought the long silk bohemian wrap skirt at this lovely establishment. I've bought the adorable photo frames and yep, I've also bought sushi platters and jewelry and cards and journals and basically any kind of gift you'd need to give someone that you haven't figured out what else to give them. The people who work here are so sweet, and they do have a fantastic and eclectic selection of items for anyone on your list. So the next time you're like "oh crap, I have to get so and so a birthday present in 5 minutes," and you're on G-town Ave, stop in here and they'll hook you up. Went here with my daughter. She was going to purchase several outfits. While waiting for her to try on some for sizing (they told us the clothes tend to run small) I was looking around. I see Ruth Bader Ginsburg "dissident" jewelry which tells you they donate to several ultra liberal causes and refugee programs. Unfortunately I did not see the jewelry that supports our veterans, troops or Americans and calls for unity instead of dissonance. Getting political is their choice. Choosing to put the 100s of dollars worth of clothing back and write this review is mine. read more

An attorney I work for had a holiday party and gave several of us bracelets from this store with their business cards in the box. My coworker got one that I loved, so I went to the store the next week to exchange mine for one like hers. The employee said the bracelet had to be in a gift box. It WAS, but according to the employee, it wasn't the RIGHT gift box, so she refused to let me exchange it. The condescending way she talked to me, and their RIDICULOUS return policy left a sour taste in my mouth. Do NOT shop here. They run a shoddy business. read more

Nice selection of items for gifts or yourself. Everytime I go in here I do not ever feel welcome by the staff excluding the petite woman with wavy,dark hair. She is the only nice one who will actually offer you help. If she had not been there today I would have easily walked away empty handed because with the economy and numerous other stores offering cute items I have no time for rude customer service. great little store on the hill that has stood the test of time it is a wonderful place for gifts and is the perfect size to get lost in who knew that 'el quetzal' means 'girly-heaven': unique jewelry, accessories, clothing, lotions from tokyomilk and lollia that smell delicious, hand-made motawi tiles, etc...definitely a place i could return to again and again i picked up a few pairs of earrings and regret that i did not purchase the lollia 'in love' lotion that i sampled...i didn't want to wash my hands, it smelled that good thanks emily...so glad we stopped in read more

My wife and i were in Philadelphia for a weekend and our daughter took us to this incredible area of the city where El Quetzal is located. We went for breakfast and spent 4 hours walking the street and shopping. El Quetzal was a true highlight. It is a light and airy place with interesting and intelligent sales staff. I was able to purchase an artist made ceramic and glass bowl - stunningly beautiful - for $40.00. It will be a treasure for decades to come. Some places have basically what every other gift shop has to offer. El Quetzal was truly distinctive and fun to shop in. You can bet we will return on future visits and look for amazing bargains and beautiful works of art. read more

The layout is nice and very typically bohemian, but when you start looking at the tags and material of the clothing (along with the quality of the pricey jewelry) you will quickly realize that the quality is quite cheap for a high price. After recently trying to return a shirt (unworn, with the tags) within 30 days of purchase, the staff AND owner were quite rude and only permitted store credit. Their policy is returns only within 3 weeks of purchase, however, I am confident I was told 30 days at the checkout counter and nonetheless this was not honored. I am disappointed as I like walking Chestnut Hill with new friends - I frequently bring them into the shops, but this will certainly no longer be one. read more

This Chestnut Hill boutique is always worth a pop-in and I always end up buying at least one thing. Good selection and friendly staff. A lot of the clothing has a similar look to free people/anthro, but way less expensive. The jewelry is great as well, but I find it to be a little pricier relative to the clothing. Definitely worth checking out. read more

You certainly would be hard pressed not to fall in love with something, if not many things in this store! I especially love the jewelry - some unique and beautiful pieces that are surprisingly not too over priced. Not exactly inexpensive, but a little less than you might expect given the neighborhood (Chestnut Hill). It's always fun visiting El Quetzal. read more
