Stopped in here during a trek down Chestnut Hill's long street of boutiques. Neat clothing, embroidered jackets, cool shawls, some funky hats, fun bags, cards, and lots of jewelry. Back in 1989, as a college student home of the summer, I worked at this establishment as a sales clerk. I loved it- the silver jewerly with Mexican themes, cool Grateful Dead like clothing. After stopping in there a few days ago cause I loved a tee in the window, I saw that it hasn't changed much- the jewerly is still silver. The clothing is artsy and embroidered. Frida Kahlo images are silkcreened on totes. Frankly, there just isn't that much in there. It doesn't have a whole lot of much else- sunglasses maybe. Inexpensive espedrilla like shoes. Candles. My girlfriend& brunch buddy comes here frequently , loves their Bohemian casual look!! I do too, so we ventured out to Chestnut hill area. Great day, breakfast & walked around, & was anticipating this little spot. They have knit tops, like tanks to tees,linen pieces to gauze skirts & tops.Usually get their new Spring & summer around mid MARCH -which I cannot wait!! Very edgy & casual vibe, nice price point & the owner is GREAT!!!. Was little late for new summer looks, but I did pick up a gauze black top, CAN"T WAIT til Next Springs inventory to come in!!! Well, I suppose you could call me a lover of unique styles of fashion. Crazy, cool stuff with some color appeals to me and I fearlessly don it. If you wanna stuff me into that funnel known as "Hippy", well have at it. I get nothing but compliments on whatever I have bought there, and I have been shopping there for many years, at both locales. The staff is knowledgeable about the fit of their wares, so you won't waste your time trying stuff on. They are also super sweet with little ones and any momma has got to be appreciative of that. I've been going to Mango since I was a teen. I always loved to walk thru and explore all of the trinkets. I have probably actually bought something 2 times out of the dozens of times I've been here. It's pretty much the same stuff every time I go in but I still love to browse. Need a nose ring? Mango is your place. Shoes with a hemp sole? Mango! Beaded curtain? Mango! Incense galore...MANGO! Take your money elsewhere - this business is really dishonest. I bought something from them during a street festival in Chestnut Hill and asked if there would be any problem returning it if it didn't fit. The salesperson said that if I had a receipt, there wouldn't be a problem. When I tried to return it 48 hours later, I was told that ALL returns are ONLY for store credit - information that was definitely omitted when I made the purchase. There's a sign inside the store with that information, but there was nothing at the street fair table. And now I'm stuck with a gift card to a place that I don't want to support. read more

The previous reviewer is right - there should be a hippie alert on the door of Mango. In fact, this is my number one stop for Nag Champa incense and incense holders. They have lots of long, flowy dresses and skirts and many cozy sweaters and tops that can be described as as "relaxed." They also have a good selection of jewelry and accessories that also have a very casual vibe. Mango is a great place to go for gifts for your friends who appreciate a more cultural present (you'll be able to choose from such items as Buddhas, prayer flags and beautifully knit hats). read more

I've been going here since I was a preteen, so I'm rather partial. My mom didn't have a ton of money, but she could afford to take me here so I could salivate over a few items and find them under the Christmas tree a few months later. Sometimes, she would take me simply to window shop and "get ideas" for crafts that I could make myself. This place is a wonderful place to stir your creative juices. So many cute handbags, adorable clothing and fun jewelry await your perusal. The clothing can sometimes be a bit too daring for me, but I've also found a few nice items here like a super soft cardigan. The folks that work here are super nice and helpful, too. I have shopped here since I was a pre-teen and every time I come home I try to stop in and I always find the best pieces there. Crawling up and down the hill for Christmas shopping I stopped in just for the hell of it, although I live a mile away I've never really been in. If you use the word 'groovy' frequently or like to hug trees, you'd certainly consider this place far out. The friendly crew that runs Mango has packed it to the gills with a variety of jewelry, clothing, incense, and random hippy doo-dads (no pipes, stoner). Really nothing here for dudes unless you like incense or tapestries; I was able to score a nice pair of earrings for the lady at a reasonable price so it served it's holiday purpose but I definitely don't fit the Mango demographic. read more

Well, I have to give Mango four stars. It's one of the only stores in Chestnut Hill I frequent. I'm a huge fan of unique bags and neat textiles and they always have a really nice selection of both. I always get compliments on the bags I get from here. Most recently I got a Frida Kahlo laptop bag (well, it wasn't made for a laptop bag, but I made it a laptop bag). I do like their clothes, but as someone that wears a plus size, they don't have anything for me. I've suggested it to the employees, but perhaps the companies they get the clothes from don't make plus sizes (I won't go into that little rant right now). read more

This store sells lots of fun pieces! From clothes to jewelry and a few handmade crafts here and there (such as "Dammit Dolls" that even come with instructions!), they have a great thing going. Mango seems to have a great deal of Latin American influence, but the all-around eclectic vibe of the shop and its selections makes it easy for everyone to find something special. This was my first time in this shop. It's a welcoming boutique was great gift items and clothes. I love the adorable jewlery selection and clothes. Today I bought a colorful necklace! I tried on a few dresses for the summer but didn't end up getting one because I just couldn't decide but I have a feeling I will be back to shop for more summer clothes soon. By far one of the most unique and fun boutiques in the Philadelphia area! My favorite place to go if I'm in chestnut hill. I love to buy their sundresses - you will not find them anywhere else. I shopped at this store for the first time a few days ago. I purchased a dress that I was on the fence about, but thought I might really like it once I got it home and paired it with some accessories. I ultimately decided that I didn't like it, so went to return it four days later. It was only then that the clerk made me aware of their return policy--you can only return items for a store credit (and it has to be within 2 weeks, which wasn't an issue for me). I mentioned that at the time of purchase no one mentioned that to me. The clerk told me "Well, there's a sign." The sign she referred to is letter-sized, placed well above eye-level, to the far left of the cashwrap, in a decorative frame that blends in with the other things on the wall. She also mentioned that "The policy is written on the receipt" which is moot, since you only get to read it AFTER you make a purchase. I get that it's a small shop however, they need to take care of their customer, not just their overhead. They ought to make a more concerted effort to inform them of their stringent return policy--I definitely would not have purchased the dress had I known this beforehand. read more

I had an awful experience at this store today. My mother and I had walked into the shop only to overhear the woman at the desk, whom was fair-skinned, say "My father always said to marry white women because your children will be light and bright" to a caucasian customer. As darker skinned females, my mother and I were very offended. And no one at all in the store had apologized, not even the woman that said such things. The vibe in the place did not seem too welcoming to us and it may have been because of that woman's close-minded views. For a place with such positive reviews to do something so ridiculous like today, it's just not adding up. read more

I found a fantastic leather cuff at Mango last week--beautiful shade of sky blue in a sort of lattice pattern, it's a nice mix of feminine and edgy.
