Sales staff are harried on Boxing Day. I have been one, and my kids are similar in age to the clerks I encountered today, thus it took a SERIES OF UNABASHED INSULTS to elicit this negative review. I apologize that I can't reproduce the literal lip-curling sneer with which the redhead said (and I am NOT kidding) "Are you here to BUY something? Or..." and "So you're done looking, then?" I was there about fifteen minutes, because (it being a BOGO sale) I could not find a second garment I wanted. I tried on two sets of items, and while in the change room with the last batch, heard the blond, and slightly older woman say "Make sure it doesn't smell before you put it back on the floor." I cracked the curtain to ascertain it was the blouse I'd tried the brunette held up to her face, and then decided to post this review. NOTE to YOKA: I am not deaf, stupid, dirty, or a thief. I may be disabled, and somewhat indifferent to fashion, but I am also a freelance journalist.

They're smart busniess people they know what's going to fit/look good, sometimes before I've even tried something on. They always have great suggestions, they're not hard sell and they have their own tailor off site. The owner is the nicest woman who really knows her stuff (she's the stores buyer I believe) and the clothing they have here come from all over the world, so the likelihood of you showing up somewhere in the same outfit as someone else is next to impossible. The quality of the clothes is exceptional, the prices are reasonable if you're looking for pieces that will stand the test of time. I've purchased everything from shoes, to jewellery, casual sweaters and T shirts to dresses I've worn to film premiers. The also have amazing sales and mens clothes. I've been shopping here since I was 19 and broke as a joke. At this point the majority of my closet was purchased at this store... and everyone I know wants to borrow something :)

They have super cute vintage dresses that I was particular taken with and still love to look at (even though during covid my preferred outfit is sweats). I got so many compliments on dresses I bought from that store, whether I wore their stuff socially or at work. Actually it kind of made me feel like I was one of those glamorous women in Mad Men. I'll always have a soft spot for this place - highly recommend if you're into vintage, pretty dresses. Most of that part of Queen Street has great vintage finds.

There were more adorable earrings, purses, and clothes than I could fathom. My friend and I wandered the store for nearly an hour alternately exclaiming, "cute!" with mouth agape or chatting up the staff. As Erin H mentions, each showcased artist/designer works onsite once a week. The only downside to this is if inquiring minds have questions about something other than the artist du jour personally made, there won't be any answers. And as a person with some hard core metal allergies, I won't buy jewelry unless I am certain that it doesn't contain anything that will make my earlobes swell. However, I was lucky to encounter the artist who crafted the earrings that fell in love with and so, got to take them home with me (and support the local arts). Plus, I was able to be a helper that day (I love being of assistance). As the resident artist handed me a credit card receipt, I was able to pass along this little tip: legal colors only please! I passed on the pink pen handed to me and instead signed with a my own, handy blue plume. For, although I wasn't planning on contesting the charges, anyone could attempt to do so and without either a customer's blue or black ink signature on file, the store might end up "out" some fundage.

My last purchase was a Veja shoe and when i was at the store it seemed ok but when I tried at home with a sock it was a bit tight. I tried to exchange for one size larger and because I didn't have the box with me they didn't any to do anything about it. I didn't wear once and still sitting on my closet. Housed in a cute Victorian small-town cottage beside the Leslieville Pumps gas station/grub joint, the store is like a teleporter to that other side of Queen Street, that I wonder if I am even in my own neighbourhood anymore whenever I step inside. I guess it's a sign of the times in the east end, as much as it is an interesting addition to the Leslieville strip. I was forwarded a meme whilst contemplating this nonsense (because apparently no one else has yet, bloody hell), and on it, a satirical list of things purported to be signs your 'hood is gentrifying, including an "inexplicable general store." Inexplicable. General. Store. I guess that best explains Good Neighbour. True to form, the place is filled with all sorts of eclectic and stylish stuff of all random categories scattered everywhere, like greeting cards, clothes and outerwear, mugs, footwear, backpacks, cosmetics, stationery. It's sort of like a Drake General Store (or maybe even an Urban Outfitters), but with more emphasis on fashion and lifestyle goods... and less on random cheeky hipster gag gift kitsch. There's a small kids section tucked in the back by the fitting room stalls, with an assortment of dresses, toys, puzzles, and humourous books. The men's stuff upstairs kind of scares me with the quantity of soaps and toiletries for the discerning well-groomed hip man. The place itself is a marriage of curated hip(ster) tastes (oh wait, they even have a table of selected Drake General Store crap for sale), and Club Monaco chic. Thankfully like a good neighbour the folks here don't stink so much of that douchey we're-too-cool-for-thou attitude that many hipster businesses are known for--they instead stink of individual cheerful Queen West-esque personality and a level of helpfulness not normally seen in a more corporate fashion boutique. Pricey? Kinda expected that. What is not expected are the sale offers that do pop up time and time again. My sister claims she bought a pair of jeans here for less than what Hudson's Bay was charging for the same brand. But I usually end up with socks, or scarves, or cards. Or whatever. {TTC: take the 72 bus or the 501-2-3 to Queen/Carlaw}

Even if I am not going to buy anything, just stopping by to look at the paintings in the store, talk to the boutique owner Belcem, sorting through the shop gives me joy. It's one of the few places where you can buy unique, quality items that you are not likely to see at elsewhere or on another person, as most of the items you can find in this treasure place is based on the theme of "wearable art". So if you are an art-fan and have a unique style, you can be sure to find something for yourself here. Other than wearable art, the Dolcezza series, the boutique owner, Belcem, also carries Desigual items, a Spanish brand whose products I generally love. She also carries lovely, unique stuff from Turkey as well. The boutique is owned by a lovely mother and daughter duo, and though yes, the items sold may be a bit more pricier than mainstream big chains, big brands which are everywhere, one also shouldn't forget that this is a boutique, and items sold here are also unique, almost impossible to find or see any similar stuff elsewhere.

WOW!!..I am rarely surprised by people but this takes the cake! I orginally posted a glowing review…read moreon social media but decided to totally take out all the positive stuff out about this seemingly cute little spot. ...WHY? Because, after meeting on August 15, 2018, to discuss collaborations, I was politely told by the owner, Margo, that Women would not appreciate coming to her location to try on clothes, have an ice cream, drink a coffee or sample skin care products if they thought Men would be there "congregating" or "Meeting for Coffee". I was in disbelief that she was being serious. In the past I would have walked away from being negative or let things go like this. I was under the impression that whatever issue I have, will open up bigger problems if I pursue them. Yep, I sure have let go of a lot, but NOT THIS ONE FOLKS... Am I proving myself to be the very Man that is "creating issues" which would warrant warning bells? I GUESS I AM AND I ACCEPT WHAT COMES! I WILL NOT LIVE IN A CITY WHERE WOMEN COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LACK OF CONSCIOUS MEN, YET ARE HYPOCRITES ENOUGH TO RELEGATE MEN TO THEIR CORNER. I guess we're good enough to bring our spouses or girlfriends shopping but not good enough to sit with another Man and have a coffee. Maybe that can work in a Gym so Women can feel safe working out in peace but a fashion store with a cafe atmosphere? Screw you lady, I guess I proved you right. AND, if doing Men's outreach is going to bring this on, then I will proudly stand my ground. Possible repurcussions from this are as follows; 1. Women who live in Fear should go to ANY DIRECT FLIGHT to go shopping. It's a perfect place to feel like you're in a protected World. REMINDER: You're not. Be at Peace with yourself and you'll attract more safety. 2. If you're a GOOD, & STRONG WOMAN WHO LIKES BEING AROUND GOOD STRONG MEN, then by all means, head on down to Any Direct Flight, buy an outfit from this "cute" little shop, have a coffee or an ice cream and upon paying, let them know what you think. Since she has drawn a line in the sand, public opinions are now welcome. You are allowed to have your say, especially since this Margo lady has such an obvious idea around what community is all about. 3. Absolutely nothing and I have yet another reason to despise ignorant people, especially the ones in this city who breed idiots. I guess you can dress up a "Little Shop of Horrors" with pretty antiques and beautiful scones on bone china and prepare yourself for your ultimate karma. I'm prepared for whatever I get from this one... I apologize for anyone reading this posting and I wish all my material was rainbows and kittens but alas, it is not the case. I wear my Anger proudly and if you step into the ring with me, you better realize I never back down... #ThisIsLamont #AnyDirectFlight #MenNotAllowed #OnlyWomen Lamont Daigle PS: My mother and I owned an antique shop in NB where we had quite a varied clientele. Locals and Tourists. I completely understood where Any Direct Flight (Margo) was going with wanting to "protect her clientele" from "creepy" Men...There are some out there, I admit, however, this altercation was more than just about Fear. After 20 years of being in the Toronto Community, there are way more Women in my corner than Men, because these Women are Mothers who see the need for Love instead of Hate. The Women & Men in my organization are always disappointed when community "Leaders" and business owner's decisions are based in "Grandeur" and "Exclusion" instead of "Inclusion" and heart based Economics. Especially in our neighborhood, where I have to remind my daughter that bigotry comes in all packages...

Its super bright and sunny, right on Queen E so watching the street car and people walk by is lovely.
