Went to the grand opening party tonight. Suits and selection is price quite reasonable for custom suits. Sure beats any Moores or Tip Top. I would choose custom made suits over HM and Zara any day. Store is nicely laid out, clean and open. Like how they have all the swatches on the wall. The large computer screen was a great touch to see all the options. Will swing by to get a custom shirt, at $45, it's a great value! More pictures and in depth review at: http://fashionstyleblog.com/surmesur-toronto-menswear-custom-suits

Being a man who rarely shies away from the opportunity to dress up or wear a costume, I had to get my act together when came to formal wear. Until now, I've settled with off the rack clothing, but as my figure continues to stray from the norm with training, I made a point to ask one of my classier friends what tailor they recommend. In comes Surmesur. Surmesur is a custom menswear store along Queen St. E, Toronto. This being my first tailored clothing experience, I can't compare Surmesur to other tailors, but I can say that I was overall happy with the experience. The first, and pretty much only initial detail that I told the associate was that I wanted a couple new dress shirts, and that I wanted to keep the designs simple. From there, she walked me through the various customizations that they offer, the most important of which being the fabric. They offer three different dress shirt fabrics which determine the price of the shirt. The first level starts somewhere around $70/shirt, then increases from there. The key differences are cleaning options, durability, feel, and breathability. The first level can only be cold water washed, while the third one can be dry cleaned as well. Durability apparently increases from the first level to the last. As for breathability, you can probably guess that the third level breathes better. Working in the software industry, I plan on only wearing these for special occasions, so I opted for the first level. After you select your fabric, you proceed to choose a whole bunch of details like colour/pattern, collars, cuffs, buttons, threads, embroidery, pockets, etc. What I really liked is that throughout the entire process they'll patiently guide you through the choices until you're happy and confident with your choice. You won't find yourself rushed in the slightest. That being said, if you already know what you fancy, you can apparently place your order online. Once you've picked all your details, they'll take your measurements in the back, then in about 4 weeks your order will come in. I've yet to receive mine, so I'll reserve further judgement, but for the time being I'll say that Surmesur provides you with a quality fitting experience that implies the distinguished look that their clothes hopefully provide.

Prices are reasonable. There are so very many sneakers on display! There is even a game machine similar to those where you try to grab a plushie with a claw. There were still some fixtures left unsold, mainly mannequins, clothing racks, and some display stands. I was surprised how much inventory The Bay could get rid of. The jewelry section had a lot of people, but even if those cannot be sold on the last day, I'm sure it won't be wasted. Maybe if more sales event were done before getting bankrupted would have saved them. Now that Canadian Tire bought them out, it would be interesting to see what will be done to the store in the future when they choose some to reopen. I bought a dawn feather jacket from the online store around Dec. The shipping was pretty fast, like within 2 days. The quality was good, very light, but still very warm when I went out on the colder days. I got the black colour as it's the only colour left available. $110 for the dawn jacket was a steal. I really do hope they make good use of the real estate.

I literally cried when they closed their cafeteria on the 8th floor and having gone there regularly for years, it was sad they replaced it an empty event space. I hated how they replaced their food service with Olivieri & Bonancini and going upscale was their downfall. The Pusateri's in the basement now overpriced and not as good as their original food hall, which catered to everyday people but now it's an overpriced upscale food place. But I love the clothes floors and the other departments. It's sad other Bay stores are closed but I feel fortunate this store is staying open and I will cherish it with all my heart and I hope it never closes.

Prices were reasonable to slightly high depending on how you gauge things. I could have definitely bought more here but I was trying to watch my budget- I couldn't blow all of my money on my first shopping trip. This is the perfect place to pick up a gift for someone, whether that someone is you is to be determined. And if I'm in that part of town when I'm back in Toronto, I'll be back for sure.

We found a highly-reviewed jeweler in a favourable location, however, it turned out to be a rather sketchy endeavour. I didn't feel comfortable giving them our business, so we jumped back on Google and found World Jewellery. World Jewellery is conveniently situated downtown, near Queen and Church. Co-owner, Floriss, and her colleague, Eddie, quickly assessed our situation with warmth and professionalism. They cleaned my ring, and we waited a short time (about 20 minutes - while kindly being offered cookies in the interim!) for the diamond-in-question to be replaced. My ring looks even better now than it did before! The fee for their service was totally reasonable, especially considering their unbelievably speedy turnaround. My fiancé and I are extremely impressed, and will happily recommend World Jewellery to others! Separated by a mere friendly walkway is the 10-year old "The Souvenir Market" and the St. Lawrence Smoke & Gift Shop (SLS&GS), an establishment that's a little more long-in-the-tooth being around since 1976. I mean, every day, "The Souvenir Market" gets to look over at SLS&GS, emblazoned with an old-timey sign and a newer addition stating they are the "First Gift Store in the Market!" Take THAT across-the-street usurpers! Who wins the war? Well, by number of customers, neither is doing too shabby. For me, and my desire for maximum eclecticism, St. Lawrence wins by a nose. But I love maple-based treats and things with poop emojis on them ... and SLS&GS has both in abundance ... so, if you're more snooty with your gifting needs, "The Souvenir Market" may be more your speed. My one purchase recommend: "Canadian Maple Crap in a Bag" for $5. It's actually some pretty awesome macaroons. It is one of many treats SLS&GS has with that sweet, silky maple syrup flavor. You'll also find all the usual suspects for tourists: T-shirts, mugs, hats, cards, toys, stuffed animals, baby clothes, gloves, socks, clocks, napkins, water bottles, shot glasses, bags, stickers, pencils, sunglasses, snow globes, tea towels, and about a million other things with "Canada" or "Toronto" or "Ontario" on them. There are two particular areas, IMHO, SLS&GS sets themselves apart from their cross-walkway rivals. SLS&GS has a stronger collection of CN Towers, as well as local sports team stuff (Raptors, Blue Jays, and Maple Leafs). And, being a Smoke Shop and all, they do have smokes. And newspapers. And Panama hats. And drinks and snacks. And just about anything else you could imagine. Tourist or local, there's something for everyone at the St. Lawrence Smoke and Gift Shop!
