We had just had brunch at the Cafe Brio and decided they would try doing their drawing in the Arcata Library. The librarians there were the most rude individuals we have encountered in our travels. I feel sorry for the city of Arcata to have these individuals representing their city. Needless to say we won't be returning, and it definitely left us feeling unwelcome in this city.

I would check out book after book with no problems at all--lots of books at a time even. I learned more from reading these academic library books than from my classes. Great selection of poetry, too. What I Love about this library is that you can reap the benefits of various resources especially if…read moreyou're at HSU student or alumni. For instance you can rent out books, articles or scientific periodicals from other California state universities and I was told also order from international Universities. The benefit of being a grad school is that you can have books up to one year until return date is due and rent out their cam corders and camera for an extended period of time . I started off at this school in 2017 and I definitely have seen many renovations through the years including the café, study rooms, tall shelving and interactive group desks, where group members can meet an use a TV to connect to class projects or the Internet. Till this day the library still has a glass case where they display a wide assortment of clubs, issues and events on campus, with nice added touches of regalia/memorabilia! I highly appreciate the fact that this library recycles electronics this can be found at the exit of the library in the main entrance.

The uniqueness of the trail are all the tree tunnels that reminded our kids of My Neighbor Totoro. Would recommend a stop here if you are in the area. Hike was pretty easy and plenty of parking.

The signs don't really tell you where to go, and the whole thing is a very confusing affair. We walked all the way to the top, went around a few times, and we never got to see the lighthouse until we were able to see that it's only open once a month. We feel let down if you want to get some exercise, go ahead, but don't expect to see the lighthouse.

City of Eureka as a visitor [Eureka CA]…read more We saw and did a lot more in the City of Eureka this time around when we revisited during the extended Memorial Day weekend 2025. Each below have their own a separate review. New to us: * Sequoia Park & Garden - the garden featured a wishing well and a gazebo. Lots of flowers in bloom which is generally between May and September. * Sequoia Park Zoo and The Redwood Sky Walk - The Sky Walk is accessible only through the Sequoia Park Zoo. Enjoyed both attractions! The suspension bridge was my highlight but I also really liked seeing the flamingos! * Fort Humboldt State Historic Park - cool history where future U.S. President, Ulysses S. Grant, served as a Captain and commander of all Union forces during the Civil War. This place is said to be haunted. * T.J. Maxx - just passing time before movies. As we were about to leave town to head back home we stopped by downtown on Memorial Day. Many businesses were open including: * Old Town Square - historic charm and for the most part I didn't see too many homeless people on the streets as many have mentioned in their reviews. We came around 10:00a. * Dick Taylor Craft Chocolate - located right on the waterfront of Humboldt Bay. Sampled some artisanal chocolates and enjoyed a Browned Butter Rice Krispy Treat from their cafe bar. * Los Bagels - tried their Scrambagel for the first time. Very good in organic sesame seed bagel. This is a cafe with Mexican and Jewish influence. Revisited: * The Donut Mill - Ham & Cheese Croissant for breakfast * Broadway Cinema - "The Last Rodeo" [an Angel Studios production] * Brick and Fire Bistro - featured in DD&D twice... first one in and we got to sit inside the main dining room this time. Had the Kobe Fettina Steak again. We've pretty much explored all we wanted to see in the City of Eureka so won't be back in a long while. We'll probably revisit again in a few years. Problematic situations aren't your problem if you don't apply yourself to them ,housing is reasonable for California It does not have some of the general issues as often is other spots in the area such as power outages or poor connectivity It's kind of small but there is always a lot going on if you're into roaming and budgeting, actually fairly quiet at night There are a few negatives, quite a bit of homelessness and addicts but that's everywhere now. I've been homeless so it doesn't bother me aside empathy Thank you eureka police for being respectful and empathetic to people and not robbing shooting and beating people on a regular basis people here complain about the police far too much. I blame that on addicts and hippies and some old anti police attitude mess. I used to sell drugs in other states. The bar in the basement is vets and guests only other than during shows -- look for the running lights to be on over the sunken door on the northern side of the building. My understanding is that flippers moved in nearby just before the crash, and have been lodging surprisingly effective noise complaints about the regular shows. Don't know how that'll affect things like Bummerfest et al. Time will tell, but I've spent many a happy nocturnal hour there.

Remote from big cities, oftentimes very hard to access, where the redwoods meet the ocean and the sun sets on the path less traveled, and there is no easy way to it. The Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse is situated in the parking lot of Trinidad State Beach. It's not a…read morefunctioning lighthouse but serves as a memorial for those lost at sea. There are 2 lighthouses in Trinidad, the Trinidad Head Lighthouse which is only open once a month on the first Saturday and the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse. I'd recommend hiking trail (listed as Trinidad Head/Tsurai Loop on AllTrails) next to it which had magnificent views of the ocean and bay, many benches to sit and look at the view, and was scattered with wildflowers like California poppies and daisies. The trail is a loop about 2 miles. On AllTrails it lists the 'Lighthouse Observation Deck' which I erroneously thought was the other lighthouse. It was basically just a small staircase to an ocean view.

Monument for those buried at sea [Trinidad CA]…read more I wasn't sure if this Yelp page was for the concrete memorial lighthouse (or is it a replica) or of the one off of Edwards Street. Either way both are remembering those who perished at sea. The memorial on Edward's Street is a pyramid shaped marble slab engraved with sea gulls and the words "Lost At Sea," with names listed on the plaques. As more names were added through the years additional plaques were placed along the adjacent cement retaining wall. There were so many names it was sad to see and reminded me of the movie "the Perfect Storm" [2000] with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg. The movie was based on a true story where the boat of the crew of six was caught in a storm and disappeared with no survivors. In 2012, we saw the memorial in Gloucester, Massachusetts inscribed with the names of those men. So sad. The memorials in Trinidad are free to visit. It looks like the lighthouse has moved a couple of times but it was at the harbor area where we saw the lighthouse and fog bell which served as a permanent location for the monument. Both memorial locations were adorned with wreaths during the Memorial Day weekend. The Axel Lindgren Memorial Trail on Edwards Street was currently not available due to erosion. Review #3777
