We had just had brunch at the Cafe Brio and decided they would try doing their drawing in the Arcata Library. The librarians there were the most rude individuals we have encountered in our travels. I feel sorry for the city of Arcata to have these individuals representing their city. Needless to say we won't be returning, and it definitely left us feeling unwelcome in this city.

The atmosphere is so welcoming, and I always find myself completely immersed in their amazing selection of books. I'm always there for at least an hour. The prices couldn't be better, seriously better prices than Amazon so buy local! They will special order you a book if it's not there! Whats always really stood out to me, though, is the excellent customer service. I spent over an hour browsing, and I could have easily spent all my birthday money there! A lovely blonde woman in a pink floral dress and glasses helped me with great recommendations for Romantasy and SciFi books, and I must say, she was such a delight. We had the best conversation about our favorite reads, and her recommendations were spot on! I know I went home with at least 1 of her suggestions that I absolutely can't wait to dive into and I'm already planning my return trip this Friday to grab some more- I just can't resist! I genuinely believe the sweet lady who assisted me deserves a raise; her passion for books and caring demeanor made my visit unforgettable! I have been going to tin can since they were in their old location and I used to read books in…read morethere non stop. I loved the old tin can, the community spirit and friendly staff. Today I took a half dozen new books in to get credit on, and was informed that exchanges are by appointment only. No one else in the store, one clerk, 10am, no interest at all in being helpful, just doing his "job" and following the "rules" The old tin can is gone, next time I have extra books I'll donate them to Miranda's rescue.

The gentleman who answered the phone for the Assessor's office was very nice and patient with me as I explained my issue. He resolved it quickly, which was a relief! I know gov't workers have a bad rep (hey, I'm a state worker myself), but this fellow was the antithesis of what you'd expect to hear on the other end of the phone when dealing with city/county/state tax issues! This is the most uncontrolled, un-regulated office in the entire county. I have NEVER been treated…read moreso rudely by ANYONE in my entire life, let alone as by the TAXPAYER PAID EMPLOYEES (public servants) as I have been by this office staff and an elected official. The staff is condescending and so intoxicated by their power over others its sickening. I was so put off I drove (45 min) to their office, asked to meet with the assessor and was ignored for 20-25 minutes the whole time being able to overhear their conversations regarding my visit to their counter. I was referred to in many derogatory terms and was pretty much told that they hold all the power and I'm a petty taxpayer that doesn't know anything and, to shut up and pay my assessment...which was wrong...has since been proven so...and not surprisingly not one sign of an apology from this corrupt office. This office is an embarrassment to the county and should be audited immediately!
