I understand the homeless situation makes bathrooms scarce around here but I wish I could have stayed longer. Very helpful eager and kind staff. I have loved this bookstore for so long and every time I'm here I buy at least 5 to 8 books. Let's support the store. I really want it to survive. It has a great selection of almost everything. Despite the fact that I had three kids with me at the time--and perhaps against my better parental judgment--I somewhat involuntarily walked right into Northtown on our recent visit to Arcata. Inside, I found a cool bookstore that was decidedly Arcata-- an eclectic mix of authors and books that might dwell in some specialized section of an old Vroman's or Borders. The magazine rack had the usuals and the obscures, without a hint of overdetermination or veiled self-aggrandizing nonsense. A bookstore that is so cool it doesn't care if you think it's cool? Yep, this is it. Nice kid behind the counter, maybe even a little square for edgy Arcata... but like all college towns, everyone here is either on their way to self discovery, or trying to find their way back to the path. In the meantime, grab a good book here and get lost in it... indeed, not all who wander aren't lost, but a few folks in this burg sure seem to be.

Considering…read morethe eclectic nature of this community, I was not all that surprised to find a pretty awesome little music store. Indeed, the personality of this business matches that of the greater community; that quixotic mix of coming to terms with your own minor quirks and foibles, along with the ability to laugh at yourself. Oh, and I love of just about every kind of music you could imagine. The store had all sorts of records, although these are not 1980s Woolworths prices. I think we spent about 25 bucks for an old GNR album, and found a cool little Grateful Dead piece of art. The key is behind the counter was much cooler than me, but just as kind... I like that when I go in the store. It makes me want to buy things. Other retailers in the Square should take note. All that to say, Arcata is a town with a flavor all its on, and this music store fits right in. I will be sure to stop in the next time I'm passing through to see what other treasures I can find in the stacks.

There is a HUGE variety of music genres here, and the staff is incredibly friendly and very well knowledgeable. I was honestly just going to get one or two vinyls, but because of how knowledgeable the staff member was he was able to show me more vinyls from artists I had never heard before and they were honestly what I was looking for. I know everything about modern metal and rock, but I've been wanting to learn more about the early roots of metal, and I was provided with some excellent vinyls. I definitely recommend anyone who loves music (everyone) to visit this store and discover music through a medium that not many people listen to nowadays.
