I came here on a Sunday morning and with about 5 people in front of me I expected it to take a little bit wait, but not 30 minutes. I commiserated with my fellow line mates, gawking at how the line had gotten out the door, without moving! "Are we at Disneyland in line for a broken ride?" We watched as the sole barista on the bar chatted away with a friend about a business idea or clothing brand or something animatedly for ages! Cool, catch up with your friends, but also...can you please make us coffee? Then, the only cashier decided to leave his post to refill napkins, and restock ice. When I finally made it to the register the employee said "we are pretty backed up it'll be about a 25 minute wait on food or espresso drinks". You're kidding. I was forced to order a hot coffee (which I never drink - not bad actually) to save time and get back to my business. As I was leaving the customer who had chatted with the barista for 20 minutes and wasted everyone's time got BACK IN LINE! If there are events in the area you need to STAFF ACCORDINGLY. Get your act together, this is an embarrassment to the Bird Rock name.

Goldchild Coffee Roasters in downtown San Diego is one of the best spots for coffee that I've…read morerecently stumbled upon. I actually found this place when doing research for top-tier cold brew in San Diego county. It's a chic, cozy, and not overly-pretentious coffee spot on Broadway in downtown that really embraces a black, gold, and deep blue color scheme. I ordered a cold brew in a to-go cup, and the clerk welcomed me to sit in the shop as long as I wanted despite that. They had a specialized machine to create the cold brew through slow drip, which was unusual and cool. The bathroom, by the way, was also really clean and nice--bizarrely gaudy in its presentation and contrast with the rest of the shop, but clean as hell and cozy. My cold brew was complex, flavorful, and overall a joy to drink. I hung out and people watched for a while. Then I sipped on my way down along Broadway toward where I parked. The only downside of this experience is the parking situation. It's very difficult to find parking within 4 blocks of this location, so be ready for a quick jaunt. Otherwise you'll likely have to pay for parking. That alone could range from $2-15 for 30 minutes, depending on whether you find a meter or have to use a garage.

The food selection is limited, but what they do have is very good. The focaccia was soft, buttery, and delicious honestly, more of a cross between fluffy bread and traditional focaccia in my opinion. The mascarpone was lovely too and paired really well with it. Overall, a really cool spot with good people, great vibes, and quality coffee.

They also have a large food menu including both pastries and heavier items. We shared the veggie burrito which was fresh and the perfect size for sharing. The only suggestion I have is a little more seasoning as it's a little bland on its own. The girl at the front was really helpful and happy to answer all of our questions. They also have plenty of seating and I could definitely see myself spending a few hours working here. I love that they had high tops, regular tables, and some comfier couch seating. They also had some board games set out.

Acento has quickly become one of my go-to coffee spots!…read more They're actually coffee roasters rather than a traditional coffee shop, and you can really taste the difference in the quality. They source coffee from all over the world, and I love that you can choose your espresso for your latte. They don't have a million super-sweet, sugary flavors, which I actually really appreciate. The focus is clearly on good coffee, and you can taste it. Their drinks are more balanced and not overly sweet, which is exactly my preference. My go-tos are the honey cinnamon latte and cafe de olla, and they hit the spot EVERY time. I've been coming almost every week now, so yes, I'm guilty The owner is also so friendly and attentive, remembers my order, and has the cutest dog! Unfortunately it was more mild and plain, so it was simply okay. I expected a sweeter flavor with the syrup. Acento is more casual grab & go, with an adorable dog running around. He must be the cutie on the motorcycle! I would try this place again if I'm nearby, but with so many coffee spots in San Diego I think it's easy to get lost in the mix. It seems like they're doing great things with the shop, but this particular visit just wasn't for me. Maybe I should be trying their freddo specialty?

The appetizer Spicy Tuna was absolutely delicious, and the dessert was simply heavenly! Lastly, that Pina Colada Cocktail just couldn't be better!! If there's just one thing that could be improved was the speed of service.
