From making appointments, reception, eye exam to purchase, my experience at TVO was exceptional. I have to say I was a little doubtful in the beginning due to the reviews but as a medical professional, it seem often that the negative experience are easily posted in public review than the positive experience; therefore, I gave it a try for myself and my son for eye exam. The receptionist was very thorough explaining Check -in process and the intake forms. Lisa was an amazing CPO who prepared us for the exam and answered our inquiries. She made my son feel very comfortable. Dr. O'Mara was amazing and personable. She performed comprehensive eye exam and answered all the questions. She even explained different eye exams as well as the cost. Her practice and health recommendations reflect patient-centered care and compassion. Throughout the process, "ALL" staffs explained the exams, the cost, the insurance coverage and they catered to my preferences. I would definitely come back for future routine exams, recommend this place for Optometry care. read more

If you go here, expect to be spammed with marketing for years to come. This place is a complete nuisiciance. They once called me at 7:30 AM, waking me up, to tell me I should schedule an exam. Even though I hadn't been there in years. I still constantly get spam texts from them, too. I still can't believe they freaking CALLED me at 7:30 AM with a solicitation. Insane. read more

My wife had poked herself in the eye one night. The next morning, she was in a lot more pain, and had some swelling. We called at 8:00, and leaned they were overbooked for the day. Having learned of the situation, and not being able to see nor open her eyes, Dr. O'Mara called her back shortly thereafter. She was willing and able to help see my wife around 915. Dr. O'Mara was able to help my wife by providing eye drops and some other items to help out. So greatful for Dr. O'Mara and the TVO staff for helping out so quickly! read more

I went here because it was in a convenient location, but it ended up being way more inconvenient in the end. The front desk had a lot of trouble figuring out my vision insurance for some reason, so they gave up and told me to pay in full and they would work on it. It took days to get this refunded. Then I sat in the waiting room for probably 30 minutes with literally no one else there, then when I finally went to the exam room, I waited conservatively 35 minutes before anyone came into the room. Again, there were no other patients there. The doctor seemed competent, so no complaints there other than making me wait so long. After all this, I decided I didn't feel like buying glasses there (I bought contacts, just not glasses), but later on I figured I'd get my prescription and look for glasses elsewhere. When I called and asked for my prescriptions, they said "just so you know, your prescription will not include your pupillary distance, which you need to have and wherever you get glasses will ask you for it. If you would like that included in your Rx you need to pay an additional $25." I said "well, that's ridiculous. Are you saying they didn't do the measurement or that you won't release my information to me?" In short, they DID do the measurement, but it is company policy that they will not provide that without the extra fee unless you get glasses with them. Which really is mind-boggling. I paid a good amount of money out of pocket and for what? Just seems like bananas. Anyway, I went to Costco to get glasses and they did the measurement in 2 seconds for free, so don't believe them when they try to pull a fast one over on you. I will never consider going back here and I don't recommend anyone else does. I'm shocked at how high their rating is. Oh also it took 3 calls and 3 days for me to finally get my prescriptions. read more

Edit: I changed my review from 1 star to 3 stars because they did credit me back for the exam and seem eager to provide a better experience in the future. Just make sure all billing info is clarified for you! I recently moved to the area and decided to use this office for my eye exam, but I am incredibly unhappy at the deceptive billing strategies used during my service. At the time of scheduling, as well as twice when the appointment began, I was asked if I was interested in including a contact lens exam during my appointment. I said no, because I still have almost a years supply of my prescription that are working just fine so I will just need a regular comprehensive exam. My doctor began to talk about my contact lenses during my appointment and asked if I had ever tried dailies. I said I hadn't and she said she would send a sample home with me to try for whenever I did need more contacts and that this was free of charge as she does this with all of her patients who wear contacts. At checkout, I was charged for a contact lens exam that I explicitly denied wanting 3 different times. When I asked why I was charged for this when I said I didn't want it, the receptionist explained the doctor did the exam to make sure everything was fitting right, which doesn't make sense to me because I didn't even bring my current contact lenses to the appointment so how would the doctor know if my current lenses were fitting correctly or not? I feel I was duped into paying for a contact lens exam that I did not want because I responded to the doctors questions about considering daily lenses in the future. At no point was I ever made aware that a contact lens exam was being done against my wishes until the point of billing, which is incredibly outrageous seeing as I declined this service 3 separate times. I will be using another eye doctor in the future, as well as scheduling my families appointments elsewhere, unless this situation is rectified. read more

This used to be an independent office, but a couple years ago it got bought by a bigger company - and things have gone downhill. On my last visit, I was a few minutes early - but they were way behind. After 15 minutes, they sat me in an exam room and then put me in the front waiting room again for a while. Then back to an exam room where I had to wait - total of about 50 minutes before the new doctor came. She was very chatty - and I wasn't in a mood for it. On the next visit with my child, the visit was on a Monday morning (but we were on vacation the week before so we couldn't confirm the appointment). They cancelled it without telling us. We showed up at the office, but they didn't have us scheduled and didn't know why. I found out by calling their scheduling folks. Not very happy with them. We really like Dr. O'Meara, but the admins and scheduling people/system are pretty terrible. The front desk folks also seem to enjoy making you stand there and wait unnecessarily. A very bad experience, excepting Dr. O'Meara. read more

New Location at Briar Chapel makes a lot of Mistakes! My son and I went to this location for the first time, had eye exams and received prescriptions. The front desk staff entered my date of birth incorrectly in their computer system, which I discovered when the optometrist's comments were off-base because she thought I was in my early-thirties instead of my mid-forties. Then I was given an eyeglasses prescription with bifocals for the first time, without the optometrist even discussing bifocals with me. So, I've requested that to be corrected. Third, they faxed me a copy of my contacts prescription for a totally different brand than the one they had given me samples to try; a brand I've never worn before! Also, their contacts prices were significantly higher than what is available online and they didn't offer to price match. When I called to ask for corrected prescriptions, I also noted that they are not off to a good start with our family of 5 because of these mistakes and the phone representative got snooty. Convenience of their location does not outweigh all these mistakes with our medical information. What else do they get wrong? read more

I recommend that you not depend solely on my experience to make a decision about this business. My initial experience was excellent - I was worried about a sudden increase in floaters. The eye doctor was able to see me quickly. I scheduled a later appointment for a full exam & refraction to get new glasses. Everything seemed to go very well. But then it took four weeks for my glasses to arrive. Worse, the prescription was wrong. I won't bore you with all the details, but in summary, there were more mistakes, more delays, phone calls not returned, etc. After three more weeks I still didn't have glasses I could use. The manager did offer to give me another eye exam with a specialist at no charge, and made other concessions. Unfortunately, by this time I wasn't feeling very confident in their services. I asked for and received a refund, less some restocking fees. My experience may not be representative of their usual quality. read more

My son was seen for a routine exam. They said he needed a fairly "moderate" prescription and suggested vision therapy. They suggested I get the glasses there, so they could tweak the lenses progressively since they didn't want to start him out with a big jump in his vision, since he had been accommodating to 20/20 for so long. It seemed all rather extreme so I got a second opinion at a well known ophthalmologist. He said no glasses were needed and he would see him back in two years. I'm not sure what to think, but it just didn't feel right. read more

I ordered a pair of single vision glasses from this location on September 21, 2019 and was told by an optician (Ashley) that "it would be about a week" for me to get my new glasses. When I had not heard anything at the end of two weeks (on Friday October 4th), I called to inquire about the status of my glasses order and was told that there as an issue at the lab and they glasses would be delayed by another day. I called again on Tuesday the 8th and was told that they didn't get their normal everyday delivery from the lab and it would be a little bit longer. I told them I would call back again tomorrow. I just stopped by in person today, Wednesday October 9th, and talked to a different optician and asked again about my glasses order. She checked and said they still had not arrived. I asked if it normally takes 2 1/2 - 3 weeks for a pair of single vision glasses. She called the lab to inquire about an ETA of the order. She looked puzzled when she got of the phone and when to check my printed order (in a tray in the other room). She then told me that Ashley apparently did enter the order correctly on 9/21. She did not order the frames for my glasses and only ordered the lenses... She apologized. I asked if it was going to be another three weeks to get my glasses. She said she didn't know but would follow up on the order. So, if you don't want to wait over a month to a month and a half (I am assuming that it would take even longer for multi-focal lenses, a difficult prescription, etc.) for a pair of basic single vision glasses, I wouldn't order my glasses from here. Update 10/25/19 I previously gave a review of 1 star due to the issues above. On Tuesday 10/15, I received a call from the manager. They left a message apologizing about the situation (I assume they saw this review) and stated that there was apparently an issue with the frame order again and something about USPS or UPS not being able to deliver the frame that were ordered last week and that they were being re-ordered again. She apologized again and said that, when the glasses arrive, she would refund me the full price of the glasses and to contact her confirming the card that the refund should be applied to. I returned the call on Thursday and had to leave a message with the receptionist. Finally, on 10/24, I received a call from the manager telling me that my glasses had arrived and I could pick them up and that my card had been refunded. I asked if I was the only customer that had this issue. She said that there were a few others and the employee had been spoken to about the issue. I checked my card and found that it had indeed been refunded the full cost of the glasses. I finally was able to pick up the single vision pair of glasses that I ordered on 9/21 on 10/25. The full refund made the wait of over a month a little easier to accept and, hopefully, the employee now knows what she is doing to prevent this type of issue in the future or they will have employees working in the future that know their computer system and how to properly place an order for glasses and how to check and immediately follow up if an order for glasses sits unfilled on the shelf for an unreasonable amount of time. read more

Unfortunately our experience is also one of multiple mistakes and condescending, lackadaisical service. I try not to write negative reviews and have provided the technician and then -at his request -the manager with specific feedback about errors in crafting lenses, poor service and lack of response to requests for follow up. Disappointed since prefer to give our business to local establishments. After multiple tries we are going elsewhere. I hope they remedy the issues and create success. read more

The very first thing the receptionist said to me is that I have to pay the bill in full if the insurance won't pay. I responded that I am here for a medical optometry appointment, covered by medical insurance, not an elective procedure, so insurance will pay in full, with only a small co-pay of $10 out of pocket. I also stated I am not here for fun, this is an appointment the Dr advised should be scheduled, to monitor for Glaucoma risk, not a voluntary, uninsured visit. She then looked up my VSP insurance coverage and said they won't pay for my exam and that I will need to pay in full. I explained I have already had my eye exam there a month ago, which they should have already known and also should have known what my appointment was for today as well, as how to bill it. She asked me how she should bill this and I told her to ask the Doctor how she should bill this, not the patient. The doctor told her to bill my medical insurance, not VSP, then she checked my medical insurance card and benefits, but checked the wrong plan somehow, and after my exam was done, she informed me that I need to pay for the exam in full, since I have a $1000 deductible. I explained that on my medical insurance, I have a $0 deductible, with only a $10 copay, but she insisted I was wrong and had to pay the full amount. I refused, knowing better and she went to get another employee, who also pushed back and told me I need to sign a document that states I will pay, if the insurance doesn't and continued to tell me I was wrong about my coverage and that I need to call our HR department and let them know our plan is showing a deductible. I am fully aware of the coverage and benefits that my husband and I pay for and have not had any issues with our previous Optometrist's office. Just to make sure the situation is resolved, I contacted Blue Cross Blue Shield and confirmed I do in fact have only a $10 copay and no deductible at all. She was also rude, yelling out at me as I left, saying have a nice weekend! Blue Cross gave me a case # to provide to them, to confirm I have only a $10 copay. I called the billing office to advise them that the Chapel Hill location is desperately in need of training, severely lacks competency and needs to be shown how to properly process billing. I also pointed out that my insurance card, which they have a copy of, clearly shows $0 deductible on the front of the card, and also has the phone number for the insurance company on the back of the card, and a quick phone call would have easily cleared up any of their confusion, had they been willing to make the effort when asked. Billing said they have elevated this internally and will address the situation. We are changing eye doctors, as this is not the first issue we have had at this office, and from reading their reviews, we are among the many patients that have experienced the same or similar issues here. This is just not acceptable service and I can only imagine the difficulty and hassle we would have experienced, trying to obtain a refund, if I had paid what should have been automatically billed to our insurance company. Be careful if you go here, make sure you are not over charged or billed incorrectly. read more

Dr. Marshall and his staff have always been very friendly and willing to answer all of my questions. I feel like my eye exams have always been as thorough as they've been at any other eye doctor I've ever seen. The new location is larger, and their answering service is a bit more automated now, but I don't feel like they've necessarily lost any of their personal touch when it came to my visit. I am only giving four stars because I feel that their frame selection is a bit pricey compared to other places. Would love to see more affordable frame options that are still fashionable! read more
