I had my first shockwave therapy session today with Sean Reid, LMT at Tri Valley Chiropractic and Sports Medicine, and I honestly felt compelled to write this immediately. For context, I was in an auto accident in October 2022 while living in the Bay Area. Since then, I've lived with moderate to severe chronic back pain that never went away. While I was still living in the Bay Area, I tried just about everything to get relief: (All services below not at Tri Valley) * 40 chiropractic sessions * ~15 acupuncture treatments * ~10 physical therapy sessions * Pain management doctor visits Despite all of that prior work in the Bay Area, nothing provided meaningful or lasting relief. I've essentially been living with pain every day. When I heard that Tri Valley Chiropractic and Sports Medicine was offering shockwave therapy with Sean, I booked an appointment immediately because I'm honestly willing to try anything at this point. I walked in today with my pain at about a 7/10 -- very stiff, with pain radiating down my leg and numbness in the bottom of my foot. I also have a low pain tolerance, so I was nervous, but the session itself was essentially painless. After the treatment, I stood up and genuinely almost had tears in my eyes. The stiffness had calmed so much, and the sharp, dull, achy pain was about 95% gone. My mood completely shifted -- it was overwhelming in the best way. It's now been about an hour. I drove home for roughly 20 minutes (sitting usually makes my pain worse), and my pain went from a 7 walking in to about a 0-1 afterward. I cannot express how grateful I am. This is relief I haven't felt in over three years. If this is what one session can do, I'm incredibly excited to see how continued treatments help over time. I want to give a really big shout out to Dr. Brett McLaws and his team of sports medicine interns. Nearly 3 years ago, I injured myself while running and I have had significant chronic pain ever since. I went to all sorts of doctors who promised to help me and then simply gave up after a meeting or two. I have had a far different experience at Tri Valley Chiropractic. When I continued to have pain despite his excellent and very thorough adjustments, Dr. McLaws suggested I see one of his rehab-focused interns. I first met with Mr. Sean and was blown away when he spent 2 full hours evaluating my situation. He made me feel truly seen and heard. Since then, I have primarily seen Mr. David, who has continued to work with me on an almost weekly basis, and I'm happy to say that no one in this office is ready to give up helping me to live a pain-free lifestyle. Mr. David takes his time assessing my progress, setting new goals, and trying and assigning new exercises. Even more, he listens attentively to me and then takes the time to explain his process and his strategies. He regularly reminds me that flare ups are an expected part of the process, but we can celebrate when the recovery is faster or the flare is milder. In other words, he is going to stick with me as we work through the long road together. I feel so blessed to have his unfailing positivity as a constant support as I am healing. He even checks in with me via text between office visits. After a couple months of chipping away at the issues that have developed for me over several years, I am now experiencing almost no pain and we are shifting our goals to real strength training designed to get me back to confidently enjoying all of the physical and outdoor pursuits that I used to take for granted. He will dig his bear hands on you like there is no tomorrow breaking down any scar tissue and within a couple of weeks you will feel like new! I have been to multiple chiropractors throughout the years and Dr. Brett McLaws is by far the best doc I've visited. He starts every appointment with electrostatic work and roller tables, and then does a good amount of of deep tissue work and massage before adjustments which really makes a difference. His appointments usually last 30 minutes or more, which as a cash patient I really appreciate. I feel like not only am I getting my money's worth, but I am getting the absolute best care possible.
