A few days later we got approved, and we told that they were waiting to hear back from the foster for more information about her and to schedule a time to meet. We were very excited to meet her and have a new addition to our family. We didn't hear anything for a week and then she was removed from the website. I had to reach out and ask what was going on as there was no communication. Turns out that AFTER we were told we could adopt her, the foster decided to keep her. While I'm glad the she found her forever home, it was very heartbreaking, such a letdown and a giant waste of time. This experience definitely rubbed me the wrong way.

They have a two week trial to adopt period, so you can be sure the dog would do well in your home. I have fostered with them a lot and they always provide foster dogs with needed veterinary care. we adopted from Ruff Start back in October. from the get go, communication was great with Ruff…read moreStart and with our dog's foster. we had some logistical issues (planned trip) and were able to work with them to accommodate us. there was an issue with getting her rabies tag and vax certificate, but that was on the vet (they forgot to send it). one of the post adoption people at Ruff Start did all the leg work and we had the tag/certificate with a few days. i'd definitely adopt from them again and encourage you to look at their available animals list if you are thinking of adding a furry member to your household! one thing to note: they do not keep animals at their facility. all dogs are fostered.

The staff was very responsive initially, but now there are very limited hours when they can be reached. This is causing a delay in trying to set up an appointment to get the dog spayed. We need to get this done sooner than later, as she could go into heat at any time now. If this is how MARS operates, I would not recommend going through them for a pet foster or adoption!

We were prepared to drive from Minnesota to Indiana to bring home our rescue pup. Along the way we were lied to and tricked by two different rescue organizations that were both out of state. I changed my strategy and decided to confine our search to the twin cities area and fortunately came across Underdog Rescue. I'll admit I was cautious and skeptical because of the bad experiences we had, but I knew I had to look close to home. There is just too much risk to drive 10 hours to purchase a dog you have never even met. Coupled with the fact that they know nothing about whom they are releasing these dogs to. That is really a huge disservice to these animals whom have already been through so much. We highly recommend Underdog Rescue, they run their organization with great integrity and they take their responsibility of placing these animals in safe, loving homes very seriously. Every single step of our adoption process with Underdog Rescue was very well organized, with great communication/response time and everything moved along nicely. From the adoption coordinator, foster family, home visit consultant all whom work full time jobs and volunteer their spare time to place these animals in the loving homes they deserve. I was looking to help a homeless animal as a Valentine's Day present to myself. It seemed that the cats in Minneapolis and St. Paul were either maladjusted, or too tired from being bothered all day to show any personality or affection (kind of like the guys I've dated). My mother told me about PetFinder.com. She adopted her mobility assistance dog from the site. I did a search and decided to go look at a Siamese mix at this location. Unfortunately, the cat ended up having a serious health problem that had just been confirmed the day I drove out to get him. While waiting I had the chance to go into the shelter and meet the other kitties. All of them were very entertaining and had vivid personalities. You could tell they had been cared for well, but hadn't been over stimulated. I found them all to be much nicer than any of the cats in the Twin Cities' shelters. They didn't try and push me to take the sick cat, nor did they try and dump a second cat on me. I had ample time to visit with them all and made a decision on a seemingly mellow striped male. He is definitely not mellow, but he's one of the best cats I've ever had. He has a great personality and we cuddle every night. This relationship has lasted 1 year, 7 months, 19 days and counting. I have a good feeling it is going to break the record.
