Service is good as it should be but they are the only choice. Why is this? Expensive as well. Not fair to consumers to only have one option in a densely populated area. Just Horrible. All Around. 1. Customer Service is like just a person who doesn't know anything about anything. Don't recommend calling. you go through a series of people just to get to someone who can help, and they just don't seem to care. 2. Outrageous prices and added fees. I have to call just to figure out why they added a new fee every month. 3 Nutshell.. they just overcharge and hope their endless call waiting times and re-routes and call backs detours you from getting a straight answer. Horrific service. First, there are no options to set up service online. You have to call into their "call center" and talk to one of their rude, unhelpful representatives. Second, once long ago, when I was setting up my very first electric account at 19 years old, I had to pay a deposit. Never have I ever had to pay a deposit since then. I am moving into Keller and this is apparently the ONLY company that my new apartment complex deals with. Apparently they think this allows them to cash in on that since there are no other utility options. I was told they charge a $300 deposit to everyone unless you fill out and send in all of the things they request. After having done that multiple times, they finally received my documents, and are still charging the $300 deposit - even with a credit score that is quite great. Talking with their reps is like talking to a fence post: No personality, not helpful (nor wanting to be), and unwilling to do anything to assist. It's absolutely infuriating - and even after requesting a supervisor I was not transferred for assistance. Do whatever you can to avoid this sham of a company. read more

Do not use this company if you have any other options. They changed my account number. And did not inform me of the number I asked several times what is my account number when they refused to allow me to pay my bill without a number. They didn't bother with an account number they ignored me. But today they finally sent me an email telling me that they would disconnect me. But they disconnected me first. My mother called to pay for it and all of the sudden my 139$ bill, that's only a couple weeks late, was almost 800$. They ripped my elderly mother off! These people are crooks. If you don't mind paying 600$ bills or more every month you will probably be ok with them though. read more

They keep our lines cleared of overhanging tree limbs on a regular basis & are always promp & cheerful under any circumstance. I am not happy at all with only being able to choose from this one provider at my Fort Worth- Keller ISD - home. One provider- really? I recently bought a second home and have been with TXU for over 10 years in my current home. It is like Fort Knox to try to get electricity set up. Usually I am able to call and set up over phone. I have to fill out and send in an application- send in proof of ownership of the home- my drivers license- get a letter of credit from TXU-or pay a 500$ deposit(most people do not have 500$ extra for a deposit) I have to pay a membership fee- what on earth is this? There should be a law against only have one electric company to choose from and the fees they make you pay- total BS. read more

We just moved to the area and I'm in the process of trying to get service setup. I'm glad we didn't decide to move in right away, because we would have been without power for a few days with two kids. I had to provide so many documents. So many. It kind of blows my mind that as someone with great credit I would have to pay a deposit or letter from my current provider vouching for us. I Don't know what the reviewer was smoking who said they had the lowest rates in the area. I object strongly to the monopoly that this company has managed to secure in the area where I am opening my third location. Not knowing that they had a monopoly in the area, I went and secured a great contract with Star Tex Power for 4.5 cents a KW only to find that ONCOR could not connect us because Southlake City tell me I have no choice but to go with Tri County. OK, not happy, I call Tri-County to get set up with them. The lady on the other end was just doing her job but when I voiced my disappointment that I was not allowed to choose my electricity provider, she said that I would be surprised by how good the rates were and that they have had no complaints. Having looked online I nearly fell off my chair laughing - just look at this page for the wonderful glowing reviews. Anyway, the story finishes with the rate she then quoted at 6.5 cents a KW - a full 2 cents and 30% higher than the contract I wanted with my current provider in Grapevine. This is a disgrace and I hope that somewhere someone is doing something about this as it looks like money under the table or some such bribery has gone on here to give this company a monopoly like this. read more

This company has some clearly bad policies. We have used the service for a little over a year (No choice in my area). Their prices are not cheap but they could be worse and whether I like it or not it will not make a difference. I can deal with that. This morning I woke to no power. No biggie. I check the breaker box...all good. Search the home looking for anything that might be blown...still all good. My neighbors have power...kinda weird. I make an appointment with the local electrician because this is clearly beyond my limited scope of repair. Being the curious type, I keep looking. After checking both AC units I look at the outside meter. Hmmm, looks like there is power there...did I pay the bill...? I call them up and spoke to Tammy. Nice enough gal whom has obviously been yelled at a lot over the phone. I decide early on I will not add my name to her naughty list. Apparently I am 14 days late with my bill and they cut power to my house. My $133 bill just turned into over $600 with fees and charges. But wait, I don't recall being notified of any power cut-off...Again, being the curious type, I read the small print on the monthly bill. There it is! Termination date for Current Amount. Moral of the story...don't be late because this is the not f'ing around company and if you do decide to use them, through lack of choice or otherwise, I would suggest auto pay so pesky things like lost mail, Holiday madness, or life in general do not land you on Tammy's naughty list! They were quick to take our large amount of money it will cost to bury electric line from the pole to our new home but slow as all get out (weeks and delaying our closing) with a lame excuse of "were so busy with tons of growth and we've even hired additional crews". We have not had one issue with TriCounty! During the snowstorm we had short breaks in service but nothing that was not manageable. They have been responsive and quick to come when power has encountered problems, they charge very little for our safety light which I love and their engineer came to the house to give great advice and clarify the simple requests for our add-on. If you are renting or buying in a community that uses this provider, DO NOT DO IT. You will have frequent power outages, especially when it's hot (so all the time pretty much). In 2 months I have experienced 5 power outages. I am not sure if me or my dog are more frustrated with them, but if you care for yourself or your pet, avoid it at all costs. read more

I agree with most of the reviews. Coops are, by nature, organizations with a lower cost base as a non-profit organization. Management is usually paid at a slightly lower compensation, as well. Someone forgot to explain this to Tri County Coop. Today, May 4, 2017, their quoted rates-- which you are forced to obtain by calling customer service! (they aren't quite into the 21st century with their online technology!)-- are 8.5 cents/kWh. Competitors in the same vicinity as my house, are quoting 7 cents/kWh to 7.5 cents/kWh for the first 1,500 kWh, which is typical usage for a family of four in Texas. That's a 14% to 22% higher rate charged by Tri County Electric Co-op! It should be the reverse! The sad thing is that "Power to Choose" does not apply here, with the Tri County monopoly. Prices seem fairly reasonable for kWh but fees are high. I DO NOT LIKE HAVING ZERO CHOICE. I want to go solar but their solar policy is pathetic! It is so bad that when I asked Tesla to come and give me a quote for a solar roof, they set up a date, then called the day of to cancel, laughing saying it was pointless for them to come out and not worth it for me to install solar since I have tri county and their solar policy is awful! That being said, tri county does free energy audits on your house and the guy is thorough! He helps you save energy and gives you lots of tips. I also appreciate that they trim my trees that are along the electric lines when I call (they have an easement on my acreage). And if you need a safety light they will install a pole with lights almost anywhere no charge for install if you sign a 2 year contract to pay a monthly fee per light instead of having to pay for the kWh usage. So far I've had less outages than the preppy Virginia suburbs outside of DC I lived in prior and for shorter periods. The last major outage did take I think 2 or so days to get power back on which was challenging. Give me choices and net metering for solar and I'll give you 5 stars. read more

You suck so very much that it makes me want to go completely green and figure out how to manage my cash flow to allot for solar panels on my roof and in my backyard. Why do you suck so bad? Yeah, I know it was Good Friday and I did in fact have the day off myself, but this is the first time in my life I have ever had Good Friday off and I don't celebrate it. Since they gave it to me, however, I'm going to take it. So just because you have to work doesn't mean you have to be a mega-bitch to me. You see, I'm calling you because there is this number on the side of the box that says do not tamper with or you can be prosecuted by Texas Penal Code 31.04. So when I found out my former tenants snapped your lock off and are currently stealing your energy, I sort of thought you might want to know. You said, we're closed, call back Monday. You were able, however, to tell me that they cancelled service but then you couldn't tell me how come the power is still on and whose name it is in. Thanks for that. And also, when I did move out of my house and into my new house 8 or so months ago, you effed that shiz up too. My husband told you to cancel service on a very specific date and you screwed things up and didn't put the bill into the tenants name because you were waiting on something from them. Not my problem, and you certainly didn't call me to tell me, so telling me to go collect the money from them was kind of skeezy. You go collect it from them, that's your job after all! So now that I have an email sent to you and have made two phone calls and filed a theft of service report with the Fort Worth Police Department, you can rest assured I will not be held responsible for damages to your electric box or your stolen service. One Star for me. Tri-County Electric Cooperative operates in a monopoly-like quasi-governmental role in NW DFW. This wouldn't be a problem if they followed the motto of a "Commitment to Service and Savings". Fortunately for them the region they control is locked out from competition and they can charge a healthy rate above the market. Their current rate of 10/kWh is 20%-35% above best market rates at present. So much for "cooperative buying". Maybe the customer service is bad, maybe its ok...it doesn't matter you can't switch anyway. Of course they're "non-profit" which only means they're overpaying executive management and carrying other unnecessary overhead. read more

Well, I have never did a review on an electric company. However, I can say I have been in a lot of communities and have never found an electric company to be a cheery place. I can say Tri-County will get you the lowest rates anywhere in the area. The service to come and help you out with fallen limbs etc is great! Ok, I have had one issue with the customer service folks. I have been with this electric conpany for more than 6 years and they shut me off for 14 dollars. That is when i paid 200 of it. Yes. It was my mistake i didn't pay the whole amount I misread the bill. But 14 dollars could have been added to my next bill. I had to pay 20 reconnect fee and 20 disconnect fee. I would feel better if they gave a time they are going to come reconnect. No they do not have a answer for me besides " it could be the end of the day. " 14 dollars. Geez. Its something the news people would like to hear. Especially when you been with them for so long. Not to mention my electric got shut off and I got the payment to them within a hour. 14 dollars. I've never had any issues with TriCounty, until yesterday. But the issue was quickly resolved, after speaking with a manager they waived the fee and were very helpful throughout the process. It's possible that they are more expensive than other providers, but their fast and trusted service may explain the cost. So I inquired on when to expect my credit/profits for having this service for 20 years. Here is what I got back: "Tri-County Electric's bylaws require that patronage capital credits be refunded on a first in first out basis. In December, we refunded the last eighty percent of the 1988 margins and forty-five percent of 1989 . Each year's patronage capital credits must be refunded in full before proceeding to the next year. When we get to your first year of service, 1996, you will begin to receive yearly checks. The only provision for early retirement is the death of a member. All credits which have not been refunded can be paid out at present day market value. If you have questions, please advise. Carol" Now, it clearly says above that one year must be paid out before the next can begin, but 1989 is being done while 1988 is at 80%. Seems a bit off. Why is heck are they 30 years behind on paying those "owners". Seriously, are they hoping we just die before we get paid? Just asking. So if you have this company, my best guess would be to put this in your will, so your family can fight for the money...looks like you will be long dead before they share the profits with you. read more

From the initial survey for poles, installing them, providing the temporary power for house construction, to the permanent line to the house, has all been accomplished without any problems and incredibly fast! i am outraged with this electric company!!!!!!!!! i had txu in a 900 sqft house had the ac on 68 constantly, lights on, no special promotion and my electric bill used to be 80-110 max... i moved to an 800 sqft apt and have to try to keep every light off turn the ac off when we leave and the fan on for my dogs and it says at about 76 degrees!!!!! and my bill is still 150 dollars!!!! i am calling today to get an explanation. this is absolutely frustrating and the fact that they are the only electric company i can have irritates me and will be the reason i leave the complex i love, that accepts my dogs and is safe and quiet but the electric and internet company is outrageously over priced. #ihatetricountyelectric read more

I got Tricounty electric and I have solar. Last month I used 0 KWH as in no energy. My bill is $27. I used no energy, and likely ended up giving them free energy (since their net metering is pathetic), and my bill is $27. Amazing. Thinking about getting batteries so I don't PAY about $320 a year to GIVE Tri County power. read more

Wanted to go to a reseller for they all are cheaper by over 3 cents per kwh and that is a lot of savings. For a fixed rate right now, Ican get 8 cent per kwh and Tri County is charging me 11 cents per kwh. I used over 1800 kwh so that would have beenover $55 savings for me just this past month. So, you can see how much you can save when you are free to switch. I think they should be less when everyone else is. I get stuck at the gas pump for no choices and not on my electric bill. read more

We've been a customer for about 18 mo now and have about a dozen meters between my husband and I, our businesses and home. However our last two efforts at getting crews in to bury lines or hook up meters has been met with delay after delay and poor communciation. Most recently our builder has been trying to get lines buried since early May. Finally we got a firm date of 5/16-18. Those dates came and went and after many calls by both my builder and I, we got a new date of 6/9. We had gotten NO communication advising of the delay. We are going on a month now of waiting. Other offices have let other electricians like R&S electrical bury the lines but the office that leads our area in Parker County insists they do it. Thats fine if they can service the customer timely but this is ridiculous! Our home is ready. Its been sitting there. I have had to reschedule movers twice now and extend our lease twice. Who compensates the customer for that? We are literally sitting here held hostage by Tri County because they are backlogged 8 weeks!! More competition is needed to ensure that we consumers get timely and good service and definitely more contractors. In a more competitive business they'd be shut down with this sort of service. read more

They like to change due dates so they can fool you and get their late fees. One month due on 31st ,next 2nd and next 3rd. Who knows when it will be due next month just make sure you change the date you write bills every month for them. Their customer service is VERY POOR! read more
