This business has been here for twenty years and will probably continue for many more. It is a clean comfortable environment with good spacious seating and services for hair styling and nails. Maria is the owner and takes running her salon seriously. She is often there when I get my hair cut and is overseeing all that goes on there, and cuts hair as well. Michelle, has been my hairdresser for years. I have had a couple of hair styles and color changes, and have been satisfied with each one (Not easy to find someone like that). She is personable, efficient and accommodating. Morgan usually answers the phone, does scheduling and checks you out for payment. She has always been very friendly and accommodating. Bella Vita also has a blow-out salon next door for those special occasions for groups or individuals who want an exceptional look by professionals. Thank you Bella. Unfortunately, in the Charlestown/Westerly area Yelp hasn't really taken off on anything but restaurants, and even that's debatable. So, I finally stumbled on some older reviews on FourSquare and decided to make an appointment with Paula. Paula is great! She's super friendly and makes you feel very comfortable during a situation which could be considered rather awkward. This wasn't my first Brazilian, however I can see how Paula would be great at helping you feel comfortable and walking you through the process if you are debating getting your first. I was also happy to find out that by rebooking (she suggests every 3 weeks) you're entitled to a reduced rate since it's considered maintenance versus a full on Brazilian. (I do enjoy saving money, however I also know not to go cheapo when it comes to Brazilians. My first experience was horrific, but I guess that's what I get for going to a salon that only charges $29...) I've already booked my next appointment with Paula and highly recommend you do the same!

She used to work at a large Westerly establishment and then took off to start her own gig. One day she called me up to tell me to come on over and become a customer. I really can't judge hair cut quality. I'm a middle aged male who wears his hair short and gets it cut every 4-5 weeks. It can't be too hard to cut my hair. But this is what I like about Uhngi...she complains about the places that charge $30 to cut men's hair. In her own way, she is implying that the client is getting ripped off, i.e., it's an easy hair cut, not too much skill required, not too much hair to cut, etc. And for these reasons, $30 is overpriced for the work performed. For $18 at Uhngi Shea's, I get a great cut...care and attention to detail, good advice about my hair. I always tip her, and why shouldn't I? With a tip, my cost is still about 30% lower than the rest of the local salons. Overall, I've been very satisfied with Uhngi since I first became a client. I don't always get my hair cut in Westerly, but when I do, I get it cut at Uhngi Shea's.

Years ago, I loved my hair by her. Then I became not crazy about her cuts and highlight jobs- as she didn't get very close to my scalp for my liking or did I feel that she gave good haircuts. But I stayed with her because I'm a creature of habit... Did I really want to find another hair stylist? Well the answer should have been YES because last week I got the worst ever dye job EVER. My hair on the top of my hair was seriously orange.. And Robyn told me how great it was and her coworkers all agreed. I was in too much shock to say anything about my hair when she finished... As she didn't make my hair look as I requested nor did she tell me about what she was doing. The orangey hair was where she bleeched my hair!! So much for a beachy look! When I got home my husband was speechless and my baby son cried in horror when he looked at me. Hubby actually told me that my hair looked great... In the dark. So what did I do... I wore a hat around for a few days and then went to Home in Groton to correct my hair. Loved them and they couldn't believe I had actually paid for my hair coloring. Did I contact Robyn at this salon... No as I had no desire to allow her to fix it and I did not want the confrontation of a horrible job. If you like town gossip and a poorly done cut and color... She asked all the right questions and gave me her opinion which I thought was spot on. They use Goldwell color as well. Its what I'm used to.
