I wish the consume was a little thicker as it was a bit more like clear soup more than a consume broth. Looking for a new place nearby we finally tried Tres Portillos. They have a nice fairly large covered patio space to dine outside. The staff was very friendly and asked if it was okay that there were bees outside. We said yes, and only saw one bee. It wasn't like a massive swarm. Our waitress was really friendly. One of the first things we notcied as we walked by tables was that the food smelled amazing. They bring out chips and salsa to your table upon being seated. They have a decent selection on the lunch menu. I got the lunch birria bowl. It had simple toppings but tasted amazing. I ate all of it. I saw they had popsicles/paletas on their menu but when I asked they didn't seem to have any. I was a bit disappointed but that may have been a miscommunication and lack of time on my part. First time here and went with friends who been here before. Went early and got seated right away. Sat at a table and had plenty of room and chairs were comfortable. Hubby and I each enjoyed a margarita on the rocks which was delicious. They had $2 off the Gold Cadillac and it was delicious! I had the pork empanadas. There were three and served with red cabbage. Very tasty and took one home for later. Hubby ordered beef burrito and chicken burrito and came loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and sauce on top. He enjoyed his as well. Service was excellent and our server was very pleasant. After we all were done eating we all sat and talked for awhile. We like this place. It's nothing fancy but the service is always prompt and pleasant. I have had many things on the menu and it's always good except their Diablo style. I like hot, hot food but their Diablo is hot, hot, hot, hot! Love their complimentary salsa. Clearly homemade and worth the trip for it. Their guac is the best around so I always need a side of it. I often get their vegetable fajita burrito and I love it. The peppers and onions have nice cast iron searing and their secret is including lots of very tasty fresh mushrooms. Everything took so long and it wasn't even that busy. Our order wasn't taken for about 15 minutes after sitting down. No dishes were ever cleared from our table including empty glasses and an empty pitcher. I had to track my waitress down for the check and then she disappeared for another 20 minutes before taking my card. We spent over 2 hours in the restaurant and I only ate an appetizer. Update: Gave them another chance and the service was worse. I had to walk up to the front to get silverware for our table after our food was brought out. No employees in sight. Just left this place after sitting with only chips and salsa for over 15 minutes. Nobody acknowledged us and we saw two other tables that came in after us have servers acknowledge them and get drinks. We were sitting 2 tables away from the front desk. It's not like we were hidden in the back of the restaurant. When we realized we were being ignored, we decided to leave. Upon leaving, there were three people at the front desk, 2 servers and 1 hostess. When I explained that what we experienced was unacceptable, they just stared at me. No apologies from anyone. I can't help but think that since we are a same sex couple, that is why we were ignored. We had gone away from this restaurant years ago once Fiesta Mariachi opened, but decided to finally give Tres a chance once again. We should have gone with our first instinct. The really sad part is that management probably won't even acknowledge this issue. If you're LGBTQ, stay away from this place. Take your money elsewhere. read more

And it was pretty, so good we tried it out again a week later. And again the week after that... Out of 6 entrees we've tried, 5 of them have been really, really good. (One out of six was a little dry.) If there are two of you, and you've got a little money to spend, (or if you're alone, and want a bunch of leftovers) get the Tour de Mexico. It's pretty much every meat they have, with all the usual sides. And it's awesome. The one missing star is for the one dry meal, and the prices--I feel like some comparable places around town are a little cheaper. One of my favorite dishes that I typically order is The Baja Mex salad with chicken. This is me, trying to eat a little bit healthier than a lot of the other dishes that are offered. I used to recommend this salad to friends when they were going to this restaurant. The salad used to be huge! Full of romaine lettuce, FRESH seasoned grilled chicken strips and a few other ingredients such as black beans, corn and tomato. It used to be so large that I would ask for a large plate that I could move the salad to so I could spread it out and mix it up well before eating. Now the salad is served in a much smaller bowl and doesn't have near the same amount of ingredients as before but the price has surely increased. The charge is now $11 for way less ingredients and the chicken tends to be very dry now. Nobody likes overcooked meat! Overall the salad is so disappointing that I never plan to order it again. The bean dip is really good. The service is always top notch but I'm sorry the food has gone downhill in my opinion and some folks I've had lunch or dinner with feel the same. I realize the price of food has increased, but they shouldn't decrease the portion sizes also. There are a ton of Mexican restaurants to chose from in the Columbus and Grove City area to dine in, so I say to Tres....step it up guys! read more

The Galloway location has a sizable patio so patrons can enjoy their meal al fresco. The true gem of this restaurant, however, is the attached ice cream shop. Here, diners can get a selection of homemade paletas in flavors ranging from the familiar, like strawberry and vanilla, to the exotic like avocado or corn (which are favorites in my house). I'm going to keep this one short and sweet. We heard good things about this place from friends. 4 of us went during happy hour. The initial server informed us it was happy hour pricing on all margaritas, not just house. We were all stoked. Every one of us got a drink and the margaritas and draft beers were pretty darn good. One of us got a red sangria, it wasn't the greatest. Their queso dip is top notch. 5/5. Great consistency and spice. The food is your average local Mexican fare. Nothing was outstanding or terrible, though the "tender ribeye" they use in their fajitas was a little gristly. No big deal. The problem we had was the "service." It was like pulling teeth to get our waiter to come back to the table for anything, including trying to buy more alcohol. He didn't refill our waters during the entire meal and didn't bring one of us a water at all even though he'd requested one 4 times. (He ended up chugging half of his wife's water on our way out). Then the bill came. Everything was full price. The appetizers. The alcohol. Then, our waiter disappeared and another woman showed up to take our payment. So, we just paid full price, (about $30 more than we should have total) tipped 20% and agreed it would be a while before we came back. Top points: Queso is great. Try it. House margaritas are delicious. Try them. Don't expect quick service. Check your receipt and be wary of any deals they offer you. read more

We have a few friends/family members who enjoy this restaurant so we decided to try it for my Mother's Day dinner. The experience was a bad one from the first minute we stepped into the door. We waited a good 15 minutes before anyone would seat us or even give us eye contact. We were finally told we could have "that booth over there." There was no escort to our table, no asking if we had dined there before. Quite unceremonious. After waiting another 15 minutes with no contact from a server, the host finally asked if we had been waited on (we assume it was the fact that we were all three staring him down with no water, no chips or salsa, and menus still sitting on the table). Since we had not, he took our order. 10 minutes later a server did show up, and we told her the host had taken our order so she walked off. Never saw her again. The host was now our server, apparently, but besides taking our initial order and bringing us each our initial glass of water, we never saw him. We had to ask for more chips/salsa and refills of water from anyone we could flag down as they walked past. *Awkward* My food was HORRIBLE, the burritos had obviously been microwaved as the tortillas were hard as rocks and the inside was lava hot with very little flavor. The "cheese" sauce that I was mainly looking forward to (and agreed to pay extra for) was a glop of microwaved white cheese of some sort...nothing saucy about it, much of it stuck to the plate the way it does when you over-microwave cheese at home. My husband's nachos were disgusting, dry with VERY little cheese, and no flavor. We couldn't eat what was served and asked that the items be removed from our bill, which they accommodated. I noticed that all of the other Mothers were being presented with a rose at the end of their meal. Not this Mom, I guess that happens when you technically don't have a server. We won't be back. I can't help but wonder if the cook who put out my dismal plate of "food" or the runner who brought it to our table would be willing/happy to serve that to his/her Mom on her special day.
