Pot hole ridden, poorly lit, with a night club crowd after dark and seemingly abandoned in daylight. Good place to dump a car for your sideline insurance fraud venture. Bad place too, you may park near a corpse and who needs all those questions from an officer. Ya hear me yeah? Oh what the hell, the trip was to a casino anyway right? You're feeling lucky, and who else goes to a casino if you're not? So you go all in, past the night club "La Boom," skirt the pot holes and there's this old horse trailer in the far corner. A big one, we're talking 12 team stage coach, like Budweiser Clydesdales. But it's horse pulling days are over, it's a big ass taco stand aptly named, Los Gauchos (the cowboys). If you think we're teeing up for some tasteless, horse meat, taco jokes, you've come to the wrong review son. Los Gauchos make a fine meal of taco truck fare. Nothing fancy, no epiphany tortas or biblical burritos. It's just tacos which are hard to get wrong, even harder to get really right. These guys do. The birria and pastor are worth a return trip. But that salsa verde... it was special. They should serve it as a soup it was so good. Just trust it was made one of their numerous storefront locations for this formerly mobile unit. This is THE spot you're looking for when it's 12AM and you're trying to figure out if it makes most sense to stay in bed or venture out in search of tacos. Being an out of towner, the 'experience' in getting there adds all the more to the sweet validation that you made the right choice leaving your bed. Being blunt, the drive there is suspect, especially at this time of night. Driving down dimly lit streets and turning off the main road onto an unpaved graveled parking lot felt like the beginning of a mistake, but when you see extra bright light flood lights illuminating a big food truck in the middle of the night, you've no choice but to continue trusting your intuition. The only thing missing from making this trip the complete experience was the deafening loud music, regardless of the time of day/night. Even at midnight, this place was poppin, with at least 6 customers already there either eating or awaiting their food before I got there, and a handful that arrived after I was waiting myself. Onto the food; in short, it's on point! Up top, prices are a bit on the steep side at $2 a taco, but at the time of my visit, I may have been willing to pay double that :) Pastor is my jam and so pastor is what I got. A total of 5 pastor tacos and 1 Gringas. The tacos are built with 2 corn tortillas, a generous per taco meat proportion (enough that some falls onto your plate when you pick up your taco), cilantro, onion, and a single small slice of fresh pineapple. Included on the side is lime and cucumber (a nice touch that I don't see often in the Chicago). The Gringas was ok; I too am a sucker for melted cheese, but the price differential between this and a normal taco, I'd much rather just have a 2nd 'normal' taco. After my horrible experience, it took me awhile to go back to Los Guachos, but I'm glad that I did. A friend wanted to check out the taco truck scene, and Los G. was the closest to us. I warned him that we might deal with a wait, but we decided to check it out. To my pleasant surprise, there were only 6 people at the truck when we rolled up, so we were able to get our orders in quickly and service was MUCH more like I had expected on my first visit. The quality of the al pastor and other meats (Lengua for me, carne asada for him) were excellent, and it was an incredibly satisfying experience. Los Guachos is my second favorite taco truck in Columbus (the first being Taco Nazo). Their tacos are fabulous, and their tortas are actually pretty good for being "East coast" (ie, most people on the east coast don't use real torta bread, which makes a world of difference). We had the al pastor tacos, which are pretty good, and a carne asada torta, which is excellent. I like the actual truck, too; it's designed nicely. This is a food truck. No fancy pants shit going on here. True Mexican immigrant culture. Very cool. What I ate: Pastor Tacos - 5 fucking stars Holy shit, this was THE best pastor taco I've ever had. The meat was properly cooked on the vertical skewer, the toppings were fresh and correct (cilantro, onions, and grilled pineapple), the accoutrements were all of high quality (cucumber, salsa, and lime). I ordered one taco for $1.50 and they gave me two! They are tiny, but divine. This is probably the most high quality food one can get for under $2. I've tried a lot of pastor tacos from Texas to California to the Midwest - these are the best. A couple of notes: CASH ONLY - that's cool, but come prepared. Parking lot dining - they set up a couple of picnic tables and chairs and the parking lot is full of 1st generation Mexican immigrant families hanging out and jamming to Spanish music played from their cars. All I have to say about this food truck is "Who knew?!" Certainly none of my friends because I would have come here years earlier. So the first thing you notice while walking up to this place is the spit roast with the al pastor blazing away - it's quite the sight. We went with the Gringa al Pastor, which you could probably compare to a quesadilla. It has cheese that has been caramelized on the grill, topped with sliced al pastor and topped with onions and cilantro, and of course a fresh slice of pineapple. When I say I didn't breath while eating this, I'm not lying. It was so good and unlike anything I have ever had before. Los Guachos is a great place to get your feet wet if you're new to taco trucks or street food in general. It's a very large, clean space and they have tacos al pastor just like I had in Mexico: from a spit. From there on you can choose from a selection of salsas of varying heat, including a unique soy sauce based one loaded with habaneros. God, I gotta head out there again and soon. read more

I've been on a taqueria kick late, so when we were nearby, how could we not stop in? It didn't disappoint. Though I still like one of the others I've been to a little better, I'll give this a slightly higher rating because of the atmosphere, extra accoutrements, while keeping the prices at the same level as the trucks. They have more options than the trucks, but that's to be expected since they have a full kitchen. Their aji that they have on the tables is actually spicy. And it's fantastic! Their taco options are larger than the trucks, and it's great. Th environment is awesome. It's very casual. And it's always crowded. That's a good thing. The gringas al pastor may be the best think I've ever put in mah belly. Spit-roasted pork, in a tortilla with melted cheese, pineapple, onion, and cilantro. It's an out of the way trip for us, but we've done a couple mini taco truck tours of our own making and Los Gauchos is always on the agenda. Always. And I've never waited in a line more than two people deep. This place is amazing! I have tried lots if different things from the menu, but my favorite thing on the menu is the Fish Tacos! They are truly beautiful! You just can't top them! This place is always busy, but I think that is a good thing to see in a restaurant. The prices are also really reasonable. I should also mention that if you are going to buy a soda you should try the Mexican Coke! I believe that Mexican Coke is made with Cane Sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup which makes it slightly less sweet which I really like. First of all they are now located at 5221 Godown Rd with their own stripmall location! Not so nice from outside, but indise they have about 6 nice tables and it was packed! We went for the 2 for 1 gringas night (mondays is 2 for 1 tacos) and it was amazing! I have been searching for good mexican food all over ohio with no luck. Sure I would have to wait until I get back to California I tried Gauchos and now Cali can wait! We tried a steak and an al pastor taco first since my husband is a steak lover and was sure nothing could be better. Well he was so wrong and we proceeded to order one of everything off the menu but all with the al pastor meat, it was THAT good! They were very fast and friendly and served a big bowl of limes and a bowl of onions, peppers and other veggies, along with a bottle of salsa and a bottle of cilantro sauce, ALL AMAZING! I do not even need to go in detail, no matter what u order off the menu it will be the best thing you have ever eaten, the only thing we said we wouldnt bother with again is the sandwhich, the cuban bread is not as good as the taco shells. The prices are so low, we got the entire menu for $30! Prices range from $15.0 for a taco to $6 for a huge platter of meat with a plate of shells that would be enough to feed 3-4 people! These are the most authentic tacos outside of Mexico. A group of us rarely miss "taco Tuesday" when their al pastor tacos are 2 for 1.
