They actually prune the tress and shrubs as discussed ... it's extremely helpful to NOT have to keep checking to see if what was agreed to is actually what's being done! It's also nice to be able to discuss future planning with knowledgeable folks so I can keep all my yard denizens as healthy and happy as possible. For years Nick and his crew have taken care of our Chinese Elm, Cedar, Jacaranda, Peppermint Willow and our beloved Ficus which reached its full age span at over 100. When its time came this winter and it needed to be removed, Nick's crew completed the amazing feat of cutting it down by branch section, tying ropes one section at a time so they could be craned all the way from back to front of our Sherman Oaks home. They did this safely and efficiently and were able to save firewood, stepping rounds, some slabs for tables and even a sitting bench. The crane portion was finished in a day as promised and the stump grinding was completed the next day. We were not happy with the level of communication or service here, and would not hire these guys in the future. We felt there was confusion on our end regarding the scope of work, and then an unwillingness to find a solution that felt fair to both sides. At the initial consultation, the guys presented 2 possible reasons for what was going on with our tree, and our understanding was they would be excavating 2 parts to figure out what was going on. They only did one, didn't find anything, and then said the other was outside of their scope of work. The job was very expensive and we approved it based on it being a 2-part job. The invoice did not indicate there was a second option discussed that was additional money or outside the scope. When we reached out to discuss a possible adjustment to the invoice, we did not feel there was a real effort to understand where we were coming from. Needless to say, we will be taking our future business elsewhere. read more

The TreeCareLA team did an excellent job for our multi-tree trimming job. We have many fruit trees on the property as well as a very large tree that is shared between our property and our neighbor's yard. We wanted a team with actual Arborists to check it out instead of the run of the mill landscaper/trimmer in order to get expert input on the variety of situations and to ensure prioritizing the health of the trees. Pedro did the initial consult and answered all of our questions and gave great tips on how to care for the different trees. The consult fee also went towards our trimming work, which was great. Before the trimming day, the office was fantastic about accommodating our changing schedules, coordinating parking space, and also helped us out with translating for our neighbor in order to get their consent with items relating to the large shared tree. Day of trimming, the crew showed up on time and quickly got to work. They were careful and helped move our yard furniture out of the way, and safely and efficiently took care of the trimming. TreeCareLA and Nick Araya should be given a special City/County of Los Angeles commendation for Exceptional Tree Stewardship. (Maybe they already have one.) I love trees & want to see them appreciated and maintained appropriately. I can get a little worked up about it, in fact. I absolutely do not allow just anyone to touch my oak tree (or any other trees or large shrubs). But TCLA are not just anyone. I hired them in either the spring of or the fall of (?) 2023 to do cuts on my coast live oak that required extra special care & expertise (and that require them to come back and do another set, actually). I already knew of their reputation and had seen the quality of their work, and I always knew they were who I would hire. I felt kind of excited and honored that they were coming to work on my oak, actually. I'm skimming over TCLA's other reviews as I write this. If mine is too long for you, go read those. They are equally glowing but probably much shorter. And I don't know that I'm saying anything that hasn't already been covered. I'm just throwing my (long form) recommendation on the pile. Have you been to their website? It may be the most worthwhile, helpful website I've seen from any contractor I've ever worked with (and they have a great Instagram, too). Plenty of people don't really know what an arborist does (I didn't). I would guess quite a few have never even heard of one. TCLA is definitely aware of this, and I think their site will clear up any questions you have. If you're not convinced that they are worth contacting by looking through their many photos of the kinds of work they do every day, go to the section called "News." "News" has links (and excellent mini previews) to at least 19 times TCLA has been quoted or interviewed in all kinds of media, from March 2025 back to 2006. The list includes The LA Times, The NY Times, NPR, a local newsletter, and at least one podcast, among others. I think I noticed something from Yale. I like the one from Spectrum News1, July 2021, because it includes a video. I think the quality of their website shows how proud they are of the good work they do, and demonstrates how much both trees and their customers matter to them. LA has no shortage of people who can prune trees or cut them down, or even *qualified* people who do this, and it doesn't lack certified arborists. There are other exceptional arborists in LA; they consult, assess, and/or provide legal attestations. But if you need tree work, they are usually one-person operations, and they don't do that. TCLA are arborists who do all of that on top of an extremely broad range of tree work, and they have more than just one or two people available to complete that work. (They also do tree maintenance, FYI; I'm amazed at the many things that can be done to and for trees to make them even more beautiful and keep them in good health.) A sizable knowledgeable and qualified team isn't easy to come by. TCLA are professional; they are certified in multiple tree practices; they have great ATTITUDES. They have the right equipment (!) and their own LADDERS (!). (! Their own ladders!) They know how to safely and responsibly do dangerous things high up in trees. They know about power lines and what's an issue and what's not an issue. They recognize the importance of keeping peace with the neighborhood (they have a template on their site you can give your neighbors so that "Billy" next door won't come running into your backyard screaming about trust on a Saturday morning [happened to me]). Also, when you call TCLA, someone REALLY NICE ANSWERS the phone. Yelp's review-quality bot indicates I should address the value of TreeCareLA's services. Do I think the cost for TCLA's work and/or advisement is a value? Emphatically yes. Their flat fee for a consultation is in line with current rates for certified arborists. And while estimates will depend on the nature of what needs to be done, I believe them to be fair and honest. They're not ripping you off or telling you your tree needs work it doesn't. Only you can decide if a quoted amount is something you are able or willing to pay. If you don't like the quote, get another. I've now had enough experiences where I can say with conviction that great work is pretty much commensurate with great skill. I don't have the patience anymore to put up with a ton of stress just to maybe save a few bucks. (I just made it through a really bad two weeks with an electrician, and if I could go back in time, I would say to him, "you know what? I think I'd rather pay *more money* for these services. What a great company! I called in late summer and they sent an arborist, Pedro, to take a look at my trees, which were in need of pruning. He made up a work order for their crew based on our conversation and his helpful suggestions. Angela, a very pleasant and competent member of their team, called me from their office to set up an appointment at an appropriate time in October. She arranged with DOT to put up No Parking signs for their trucks on the day of my appointment. Nelson and his crew (5 guys altogether) showed up on time this morning at 7:45, and confirmed the work order with me before starting. They completely removed one tree, pruned four others and were done in less than 2 hours! They all seemed to be experienced, have a love and respect for trees and to enjoy their work. I'm just realizing this is my second review for Nick and his team, which, given I rarely leave reviews, is highest praise to start! That said, their removal of my very large, old, terminally ill cottonwood was another 10/10 job. Everything went incredibly well and the guys were amazing - they did everything efficiently and quickly. They were also very patient and calm with all the parking craziness on my hill the morning they arrived.
