This is an adorable cafe nestled into a residential part of Penfield. It's loaded - and I mean LOADED - with products made by local vendors. Their menu is varied and delicious. I'm slowly making my way through their latte list and I have yet to find one that isn't delicious. They have lots of vegetarian options as well as non-vegetarian. It's a super cozy little place that's got very comfortable small town vibes. It is one of my new favorite places to be! read more

If you've ever been in line, though, well you probably still are. One line for everything, food or merch, and believe me they are not in a hurry. Nor are they nice about it, much less apologetic for the absurd wait time you spent crammed inbetween tables and towers of knick knacks. And I can live without kindness and extra courtesy if the staff is busting their humps to get everyone served. But no, they are in the opposite of a hurry. So the general attitude of being annoyed to have customers kinda rubs me the wrong way. Halfway through the line we thought about ditching and going someplace else to get a sandwich and a coffee, but we honestly couldn't get back out without moving half a dozen people or knocking over a display of artisinal pickles. A beautiful sunny day for a Friday lunch at Tree Town Cafe. It was busy with people constantly coming in and out, tables full both inside and outside on the spacious lawn. Service took a little longer than I had hoped but it was well worth it. I ordered the Vegetarian Dale - roasted tomatoes, sprouts, avocado, basil pesto, cheese sandwiched between toasty slices of fresh focaccia bread. It was delicious and I would get it again! I am looking forward to trying additional lunch options from the menu. Suggestion: offer plates (instead of to go boxes) for the orders placed as dine-in. We've given this place chance after chance but finally decided today we can never come back. I placed a food order for pick up through grubhub and they almost gave it away to the delivery driver. Luckily I heard them say my name and stopped him, but they did give away my husband's pick up order before we got there. I was happy to see my food order made correctly this time. The previous 2 times, they either forgot the extra bacon I paid for or forgot the greens on the sandwich. It usually takes forever to get the food, so that's why we placed our order beforehand for pickup this time. Too bad they almost/did give it away. We also had a card for 2 free lattes because we waited so long for them last time. (Also last time, I ordered decaf and they gave me regular caffeinated which I hope they don't do again because I'm pregnant.) This time, we waited around for about 40 min to get our drinks. The renovation they just did is really cute, and the food & drinks are really good, but it's just not worth killing an hour each time to get it. Cute little cafe with both indoor seating and a few picnic tables outside. They had a selection of breakfast & lunch sandwiches, coffee, & smoothies to order, as well as baked goods and ice cream! They also have a candy section and a few other packaged food items for sale. The food was decent, however they did not seem to have a large selection of types of bread on the menu for the sandwiches (I will ask next time). Smoothies and blended drinks were yummy but there were some large chunks of ice in the cookies & creme (thought they were cookie chunks at first ). I was extremely disappointed to receive our food in plastic take out containers, upon ordering and planning to eat inside. I asked if there was an option besides single use plastic to receive food in if dining in next time, and staff said they are working on it, but for now you can request a paper plate. I hope they reduce their use of single use plastic ASAP and in the meantime, at least offer customers the option to use paper plates when ordering. read more

This is a place I have been driving past for a while. They have a social media presence (I found them on Instagram) They have a lot of locals purveyors a plus. You can get a breakfast sandwich, coffee, pick up some groceries (like some fruits and vegetables) and all kinds of other things in food stuffs and snacks. I was interested in a coco bomb (it's a thing kids) they had them so I purchased one and some So Belly Happy Marshmallows which are excellent. Soft and pillowy I picked up Vanilla, Dulce de Lèche and Peppermint. I had reached out via message and the owner is a real gem. They have an area outside as I have seen used during the summer to eat outside and they also had an outdoor farmers market. It's December so they had a fire going in the pit and plenty of seating. The inside to give you an idea is small.. more than 5-6 people inside it's a little crowded. They are good about the situation with Covid a plus and they will totally accommodate you if you wanna call in, order, pay and drive up to get your stuff. HATS OFF to Tree Town Cafe for finding innovative ways to keep all of our spirits up -- in many different ways -- throughout this pandemic! We originally heard about Tree Town's open-air produce and farmers' markets last Spring 2020 when the pandemic first started and was ultra-scary. How neat that they gave customers an opportunity to shop among circulating outdoor air versus having to go into the bigger chain grocery stores. More recently (Fall 2020) friends told us of Tree Town's lawn games, picnic benches and fire pits (all perfectly spaced in protocol fashion!), set-up for folk to come enjoy outdoors while also enjoying foods from their TASTY menu! I write this review in mid-January 2021, after a "balmy" day of Rochester's 44-degree-unusual-winter-weather -- we rounded-up our gang of friends and ordered dinners from Tree Town, asked them to light one of their fire pits, and all enjoyed seeing each other *in person* while huddled around (socially distanced, of course!) various picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. Before dining, we all got produce from the market in the foyer, and then stocked up on GORGEOUS Bills theme cookies, marshmallows & cake pops for the big game against the Ravens tomorrow night (GO BILLS!) After dinner, the kids played corn hole and ran all over the front lawn, which was very well-lit from rooftop floodlights. It was JUST GREAT to enjoy *delicious* food, super easy to order online in advance, get some grocery shopping done, and get to see our friends, live and in-person (beyond Zoom!) Thank you SO MUCH to Tree Town for bringing fun & light to dark times!!! We'll be watching the thermometer and weather forecasts, to arrange our next get-together there!!! read more

I was here on the Friday morning of Memorial day weekend, at 9 am the place was extremely busy. I ordered an iced chai, pretty simple. After about 5 minutes they put down a hot drink with a name close to mine. I waited and watched and it became clear it was intended to be my drink. When I finally got someone's attention to ask about it they apologized for the mistake and remade it. While waiting I witnessed another order (food) that was apparently duplicated, thus confusing the customer. Ok, it was a busy time, But, I'd say 80% of the time I'm here, either something is amiss with my order, or I witness it with someone else. While I live in the area, the only time I visit is when a friend wants to go. I guess business is good enough, they don't sweat these small details, but it's really a shame. I'm glad they opened up the space to take some of the clutter out, and focus on being a cafe. However, today there were almost no baked goods except vegan or gluten free. After longingly viewing pictures and reviews of Tree Town Cafe, I finally resolved to go for a Saturday breakfast with or without family. When I pitched the idea, they were all onboard. We love a good fire and so right away had the good feels seeing the outside fire pit was going. You enter through a vestibule full of reasonably priced produce, and we did grab a few things. Avocado for a dollar?!?! The shop itself is cottage-style-adorable with all the things moms like to buy but most importantly lots of sweet treats!!! We took our time looking around and then ordered breakfast sandwiches. There was a slight wait for food (they do some good business) and in retrospect, we should have ordered first then shopped around the store. My family went outside to sit by the fire as I waited in the shop for our breakfast. It's a pleasant little place that doesn't seem rushed like a bagel shop on a Saturday morning. The counter staff are very friendly and our food came out more quickly than I thought it would. I had the Chester-something Avocado toast - I know how cliche- but I don't eat eggs and that was really the only one without eggs. The tomatoes on it were the freaking surprise hit. So juicy and sweet - seriously look at my picture of it. My son ate one of my tomatoes and right away wished he had ordered my sandwich. He had The Jam with egg, feta, and hot pepper jam - which he did really enjoy too. Husband got the Classic - egg and cheese on a hard roll added bacon. His verdict "excellent" with really good bacon and tasty grilled roll. This was just a perfect moment winter Saturday morning, eating breakfast sandwiches outside at their fire pit. Meet Vegetarian Dale- Mixed greens, roasted tomatoes, avocado, red onion, sprouts and provolone with basil pesto spread on toasted focaccia bread. I am writing this post mostly to give feedback to the owner. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich today and you can see from the photo what I received. I went back and the young woman at the counter was very polite and brought me an extra cup of chicken salad to add to my sandwich. My problem was solved, but I do not think serving a sandwich in this state is at all acceptable to begin with. If I had left before checking my order I would have been VERY angry about it. The service issues seem to be improving of late (things seem more organized and efficient than in the past) but this is not the first time I've experienced issues with the food itself. We keep trying to give them a chance because the food is usually good, but a little more quality control would be appreciated. read more

My fiancé and I went to Tree Town Café based on their Instagram profile and the fact that it is a local business. The interior is very nice. Various sweets and savories are presented in a very homey country-store fashion. We grabbed some locally roasted coffee beans (Sugar & Spice) and got in line However, as a café, the service was terrible. When we entered, there were about 9 people in line, three couples and a trio of young women. Behind the counter, there were 1 &1/2 people. One person was actually waiting on customers, while the "half" person was chatting with the trio of young ladies, oblivious to or ignoring the customers. He did, after a while, flag the 4 customers behind his three friends, to go around in line, but, as his fellow employee was trying to take orders, ring up customers and prepare food, he either did not pay attention or did not care. We stood in line for a good 20 minutes. I saw what appeared to be an owner or manager in the back, but he too was oblivious to the stagnant line. When we finally did get up to the front, although we were going to get coffee drinks (we waited this long, why not!?) but the young man at the register, instead of welcoming us or asking what would we like gruffly scanned the coffee beans and told us the total. We gave him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't mean to be rude, but was overcome with minimum wage bitterness at his non-working co-worker. Now let me tell ya this is a place to go during this quarantine times they have a great setup you can even throw down some folding chairs and have a picnic while distancing and noshing on some great grub. I'm giving this place a 3 because , while most of their menu is a 5, their vegetarian options get a zero. Vegetarian sandwiches consist of a single small piece of lettuce, piece of cheese or their house made "bacon"- a burnt salty powdery substance. Order their Italian tuna and you get a huge sandwich with lots of filling and lots of flavor. Order vegetarian and you get, for a dollar difference, a thin , small and uninteresting sandwich. This is a cool, tucked away cafe in Rochester. When I first arrived, I was a bit confused on how to order as the entrance said employees only. I called the cafe and was told to come to the front window. Upon ordering, I was instructed to wait in my car and that someone would bring my order out to me. I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie and breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg, and cheese). The bacon on the sandwich was a bit too salty for my taste, but the smoothie was absolutely delicious! The Tree Town Cafe's outdoor pop-up market has given me the only place where I am comfortable shopping for produce during this covid-19 pandemic. Shopping here is quick and easy! It is not a huge place, but there is a nice variety of items: fresh veggies and fruit, baked goods, pasta, soda beverages, even sandwiches from a menu! There are also meat items and coffee. While there, I did not see any produce labeled organic. However I have only been there a few times. Prices are good and social distancing abounds. read more

I really love the food here and the coffee drinks are very good as well. They have a pretty extensive menu of breakfast and sandwich options and not just run ofvthe mill things. My only problem is the space allocation and if you want to eat inside there, there is strangely very little options! In nice weather outside is set up very nicely, and a very welcoming setup for families with kids and adequate outside tables, picnic benches and kid friendly items. Inside there is a very small room to the side cramped with only 3 tables and a small bar with stools on the front. There is a lot of "stuff" options and some bakery treats( which they really need to clearly mark the price of!) and icecream and gluten free options which are nice. But personally I wish more space was available to eat inside there, we would go much more often! read more

The former Bernunzio's building is in good hands. It's a classic cafe with some high quality food here. They use local breads and coffees and the sandwiches are delicious. Today I had a BLT that came with avocado. It was light but filling. The bacon was crispy and the sourdough Baker Street bakery bread (my favorite sourdough) is excellent as always. Met a friend for coffee one afternoon and this place really isn't anything special. The day I was there they were out of about half their menu items and using Aldi ingredients as either the norm or substitutes? I don't see how you can sell coffee drinks at normal cafe prices using sub par ingredients like that!? Such a scam. It's a cute set up with the boutique and farmers market stuff all around but I find it hard to believe anyone buys the merchandise with how it's priced... not somewhere I'll make a point to go back to. read more

A lot to love here: local business that sells products from other local businesses, fresh produce, great-tasting food, and ample green space for dining with picnic tables and outdoor games for all ages. The reason we gave three stars is the super slow service and mistakes in our orders every time. We typically wait 45-60 minutes for our food after ordering at the counter. On top of that, they often forget parts of our order (literally both of our kids' meals the last time) or run out of ingredients and not tell us until we've already waited 30+ minutes. While it was off the beaten path, the large banner on a fence was very helpful in finding it. It's a darling, trendy place with a causal atmosphere. A corner for kids to play was delightful. The food was good- I had homemade vegetable minestrone soup, a delicious breadstick and a light, but large blueberry muffin. My friend had the chicken salad and was quite pleased with it. This is my second review of this location only because I love supporting local businesses but disappointed in their kitchen staff, which REALLY needs to be improved. Visited last weekend with a friend and she was given the wrong food order. She asked for a bagel with jam and cream cheese but only got jam. I am vegan and today I ordered a vegan wrap with vegan egg, vegan bacon, vegan cheddar and veggies. They gave me a wrap with egg and bacon only, nothing else. I took it back inside and asked if they could remake based on the menu description, which they did no problem. But when they delivered it to my table they said here's your Diablo something which is NOT what I ordered yet again. Please PLEASE PLEASE train your staff better and teach them about the importance of quality. I don't want to see this lovely spot disappear.
