Received the following response from the owner of Tree Masters Tree Service. Unfortunately, he took no accountability and fabricated the facts of the situation and insinuated that I was rude to him and his staff. Response from the owner: Mr. Bettinger, I'm so sorry for all of the miscommunication between you and your Tree Masters Tree Service crew leader responsible for getting your job done to your satisfaction. I recall the job was changed from a Tree Trimming to a Tree Removal upon your request. A rough 'estimate' of the cost of removal was provided, but was not finalized until the crew leader could lay eyes on the tree in person. The crew leader was instructed to collect the $1800 for the removal. He chose to collect $1400 so you could hold onto your $400 until the stump could be grinded a few days later. The office contacted you and explained that the stump grinder they had with them that day was too small for such a large stump. They always carry a small grinder with them at all times, but since it switched from a Tree Trimming to a Tree Removal, they had to schedule a larger stump grinder. Once you were notified that the crew was coming back to grind the stump and to collect the final $400, you tried to get the price changed to $200 and then tried to get the stump grinded out for free. Thank you for posting a picture of the stump. It is very clear that a stump that size is worth a minimum of $400....a bare minimum. We have been providing quality and affordable Tree Trimming, Tree Removals and Stump Grinding for the residents and businesses of Carrollton, Texas for over 35 years. We don't mind bending over backwards to help a customer, but your words to me as the owner and other words spoken to our great staff of hard-working professionals in addition to refusing to pay an extremely fair price caused us to part ways. We have noticed that you have left reviews all over the internet and even contacted the BBB. I'm glad you did that so everyone here can decide if they want to provide service to someone who makes their own rules and chooses whether they want to pay for a service or try to get it for free by using threats of reviews. You simply can't please everyone! I'm thinking that if we would have done the entire job for free, that you would have still found an issue. You got a $2500 tree removal done for $1400 and refused to pay the $400 to finish the job. Instead of being grateful, you decided to go with a different approach. Tree Masters was hired to do a job next door. My daughter woke up and found workers in my backyard. She immediately called me. The work crew explained that they rang the front door bell but no one responded. From their perspective, if nobody is home it gives them a legal right to enter my backyard. No permission or notification is required. Of particular concern was the attitude of one of the employees - Christian. He pointedly told me that he could just leave the very large cut branches in my yard for me to clean up. I responded that his attitude needs to change or I would call the Garland police and have him arrested for trespassing. The crew foreman took the same stance. Since nobody answered the door, permission is silently granted. I highly recommend that a pre-printed adhesive notification be created. It would inform the homeowner that Tree Masters entered the property in the owner's absence to cleanup branches and limbs. A gracious "Sorry for the inconvenience" would be professional. read more

Total Rip Off company. $2,000 and they left with about a pick up truck amount of limbs. Estimator said should take about 3 hours for them to trim the 5 trees, they were here and gone in 45 minutes. Did NONE of the priority items I asked for and the "estimator/arborist" recommended. Called and they said they would come back to trim the limbs that were still rubbing the house(how could you miss those), never did and it's been months. "Estimator/arborist" said some trees were out of code and were hanging too low over sidewalk. Workman said that wasn't true, didn't trim, and said it was up to code(it's not). The only thing I can recommend before hiring these quacks is to have another company's number in hand so they can come out and really do the required work. Complaint submitted to BBB 5/23. read more

We live in Little Elm , we had a 35' tree inside a section where our pool equipment is . With a retaining wall on one side with lights on top and the pool equipment and heater on the other side. Even though we usually cut down and trim our own trees . The risk factor of the tree falling or cut down wrong .and causing damage was extremely high, they cut down and hauled off the tree with absolutely no damage . We do recommend Gary and his crew . read more

I like to take the time to write a positive review when the experience warrants it, and this certainly does. Gary, the owner, was so knowledgeable, kind, and took the time to explain things in detail. The work they did looks great, and it's evident this company is fair with their pricing and work. He offered a sealant option for one of our trees but also said we can purchase sealer at Home Depot to do it ourselves at a lower cost. That's the kind of business acumen that's rare to find these days. We will use Tree Masters time and time again! read more

I had a dead tree, some large dead evergreen bushes, and some live but unwanted bushes in my back yard. They came in and took care of them all for what I considered a reasonable price. They were on time and professional. They did a good job and I would recommend them. They place the tree branches on the curb for the city to pick up, making sure it is on or close to bulk trash day. He said they would come back after the city was done and clean up what the city left. They did not come back and I didn't follow up so I don't fault them. I would just recommend following up after the city leaves. read more

I made an appointment for two days after my phone call to them. Angie arrived as scheduled and was knowledgeable. She identified disease in some of my trees and recommended treatment. She was not pushy at all and very pleasant to talk with. She gave me a very reasonable quote on the spot. I agreed to the quote and they called me a couple hours later with a schedule date to do the work which was two days later. Gary and his crew arrived as scheduled. They were very pleasant and fast workers. I had them remove the tree lighting from 9 trees which were commercially wrapped (individual limbs) very heavily. They also pruned 11 trees and treated 4 for disease. I failed to notice that canopying the trees up was not on the quote and mentioned it to Gary at the end of his work and he immediately went back to work manicuring the canopy level of all the trees. They did all this work including clean up in about 3 hours and on budget. I will certainly be calling them for all my tree work, they were amazing! read more

These guys are awesome, I was so worried at first because of the multiple power lines hanging in my yard as well as my greenhouse. Many trees were to be trimmed as well as one being removed and Gary Zimmerman was by far very professional with every thing he did. The amount of precaution he took in removing one limb at a time was very appreciated. I found it interesting the method he was using with the ropes and the way he and his crew were able to guide the branches safely to exactly were they wanted them to go with no damage done. Scheduled them, but the crew they sent needed an extra climber, so had to reschedule. Never showed on the reschedule day and were told the next day when they answered our call that another reschedule was needed because of weather. Waited for them to show for a third time. No show. Called to get a quote on Wednesday, and Tree Masters called me back Thursday afternoon. Told me he would come by Friday afternoon to do an estimate, and said he would call before he came out. My point was this company told me when they were coming out, and did not ask me first. However they never called Friday afternoon. Unprofessional customer service. I spoke to them last week to set up an appointment for today for an estimate. They couldn't give me a time they would be at my house, instead I was given a time range - between 9 - 11. A time range isn't ideal, but I could work with it. However, it is 1:30 pm, and they haven't shown up OR called. I know emergencies can happen - but in most cases someone from the company should have been able to call to cancel or reschedule the appointment. Gary Zimmerman was one hour late for his bid. Needless to say he conned me into a job by saying how cheap he would be. Clearly knowing he was lying. Because of the rain he starts late which was understood. Job starts and he brings his BOSS wife with him who starts saying how much more work is needed and they may need more money. And ME the idiot falls prey for the best one ever. The second day the BOSS asks "CAN YOU PLEASE PAY FOR THE JOB TODAY AS WE CANT MAKE PAYROLL" I direct deposit into her account and they NEVER SHOW UP AGAIN. THEY KEPT PROMISING TO COMPLETE THE WORK THEY DON'T. More rain and the job sits. More than 20 calls,emails and texts the finally respond. Rain stops job half-done they start telling me we will get you in to our schedule...... They start asking for more money with the job PAID IN FULL. Finally the Flat refuse knowing that they screwed us. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY WORST ENEMY. Do not fall prey to low level scammers. read more

Started out as a competent tree service. Attempted to save a live oak but was unsuccessful, which is the way things go. Performed well on trimming our many trees except for leaving several piles of cut limbs and branches behind a wall where our pool equipment was located, which could have been an honest mistake. Received bid to extract dead tree which he accomplished and then plant several crepe myrtles as replacements. First promised to be at our location at 1 pm, then in the afternoon, then later in the week, then no response. Completely unprofessional, deceptive and untrustworthy. Will never use him again and if you are reading this you should not either, unless you only want one thing done, but don't expect follow-up good work. Can't say enough about this business. Very professional, thorough in the job, and reasonable in price. I wouldn't trust anyone else with the care of my trees. The owner, Gary, is very knowledgeable about tree care and tree aesthetics. A lot of contractors have a problem with leaving things as clean as they were before. But not Tree Masters. Despite a lot of trimming, my backyard was as neat if not neater than it was previous to the job. I highly highly recommend Gary's business. Their customer service is hideous. I made an appointment to have someone estimate the cost of removing some tree branches from my yard, after one of my massive trees was struck by lightening and basically shattered from one end of my yard to the other. The man who took my call, Gary, was very kind during our initial conversation, however, never showed up for the appointment. Upset, but willing to give them a second chance, I called to see if we could reschedule, but I only got as far as their voicemail. I left two messages in as many days, following the no-show. I NEVER heard back from them. This is shameful and inexcusable. read more

Gary seemed very nice on visit for quote. Set up appt for following Saturday 8am in which he said we were first stop before a big job somewhere kinda far..by 9:30 I called and he was at that further away job first and said he was still coming, hopefully in another 1 to 2 hrs.. Well hours later tried calling again and he never called back. So we cancelled around 3 after wasting a WHOLE day waiting because we had plans later in the day. NO communication at all. I had to call to verify he was still coming for original 8am appt, Then call again because he was late, then called again because he never showed. He never followed up to apologize or anything. I even sent him an email voicing how upset we were and if he was going to rectify this in some way and gave him the benefit of the doubt to explain..No call..No email response...being self employed I know this is horrible customer service for his business . All he had to do was be honest up front and reschedule if he didn't have the time. But he never followed up at all! Very frustrating read more

I have used Gary to trim trees and had a good experience. I was having an issue where grass would not grow under the two Bradford Pear trees in the front yard. When I consulted with Gary steered me into trimming the trees, covering the remaining grass with dirt and mulch and letting it set over the winter then planting ground cover the next spring. I was not happy with how the yard would look over the winter but agreed to go ahead. The trimming and covering the yard went as discussed. The problem came when it was time to plant the ground cover. It varied from no return calls, to excuses, to promises made but not kept. I felt betrayed and left to fend for myself. I will never use Gary again and can't believe such a nice guy would treat someone this way. read more

I already had estimates so if he was even close, I was ready to hire him because he said he would be able to start today. He never showed up, he never called and he won't answer his phone. Immediately came to the house to give a quote. Bid a fair price. Was on time to schedule job, but did not complete full job. Told client that Tree Masters would come back to finish (all front yard and recheck back yard), and the job was scheduled, and for the client to call Tree Masters around said date. Approximately ten calls have been made over a two month span, and a few messages left. Around the eighth call with message, someone returned with a call. Someone from Tree Masters looked up client record and said they would return call for scheduling. After two weeks without a call, and not returning another follow up message, it is to be concluded that Tree Masters is too busy, or neglect completing their quotes. It is unexceptional work when not completing a job, and getting paid for it. They get two stars because the client should not have paid them for only doing 3/4 of the job. Conclusion, the client is going to have to pay someone else to finish their job. Do not use Tree Masters, as they may not follow through. read more
