Tried out Tree Hugger for the first time with the family this summer. I ordered the Ultimate Nachos with Chili Walnut Chorizo (the other option is BBQ Jackfruit). I also treated myself to the dollop of guacamole for $2, making these nachos cost a grand total of $19. The nachos were good but I probably will not order them again given that price. I usually don't leave food behind but these had that bottom layer gooey chip situation that wasn't worth finishing. But overall love a vegan spot and now that I'm in the area I'll have to stop by more often to try some of the other options.

I am not vegan so I thought the chicken and bacon bits were bland but neither are bad. The vegan sauces were impressive and the food does come with plenty of it. I loved the bbq jackfruit on the loaded tots but that does cost extra. I do think the price is expensive. For a simple sandwich to be priced that high I could at least get some fries. The seating areas are clean and the employees were helpful.

I have had Tree Hugger numerous times since they opened their permanent location in Riverside and I am always impressed by the quality and range of options! There aren't a ton of vegetarian options living in the northland so it has been so nice to have a reliable place for tasty, plant based food. Tree Hugger is my go-to for a nice carryout meal but I have also eaten inside the restaurant and love the ambiance in the building with all the plants and local art on display. The service is always great as well! I've tried almost everything on the menu at this point and can confidently say I would reccomend this place to anyone. I also know many meat eaters that have tried and approve of the food here!

Tree Hugger is hands-down my favorite vegan restaurant in town! I'm not fully vegan (I'm a cheese-loving vegetarian), but this place seriously never makes me miss cheese -- ever. I got the Buffalo Mac Wrap, and I swear it tasted just like actual mac and cheese, down to the creamy goodness and the little "bacon" bits. The buffalo cauliflower bites on the side were crispy perfection, with tangy buffalo sauce and a house-made ranch that tastes just like the real thing -- I could drink it. And then... the peanut butter chocolate tart. I've been dreaming about it ever since. Decadent, rich, just the right amount of sweet -- truly unforgettable. Vegan or not, Tree Hugger is a must.

Since my husband is a vegetarian, we figured this would be a great option - and it turns out we were right! The inside of the restaurant is small, but decked out for cozyness - lots of pillows and bench seating. It turns out this place started out as a food truck. The process of ordering is pretty similar - you order at the counter, and then they let you know when your food is ready. The staff were all very sweet. I had the fish tacos, which were delicious, and they didn't have an overly fishy taste, which was a plus for me. I do think they need to work a bit on their tortilla chips - they seemed store-bought and kind of lacked flavor, compared to other restaurant chips. Overall, I was satisfied with Tree Huggers, and we'll probably come back if we're in the area.

The best plant-based menu and food I've ever had. I ordered way too much because I couldn't decide and then I couldn't stop eating. The Reuben fries and the meatloaf Sammie are both spectacular. If I lived near this place I would go here every day and I'm not joking. Bravo to the staff for taking such care to make these meals so fabulous!

The Tree Hugger is a little gem. You ever go to a vegetarian restaurant, look at the menu only to be met by unfamiliar ingredients and pretentious titles, perhaps something called The Earth is Awesome and So Am I, maybe consisting of chia emulsion, purple amaranth, and cassava braised in the happy tears of Aztec children, and then charged $27 for the privilege of eating healthy and leaving hungry, and, sure, it tasted good but you're, like, dang, can somebody bring me a vegan sammy and tots?! Well, guess what, Tree Hugger is here for you! On our visit, the first of many, we tried the Rueben (jackfruit),Fish Tacos (heart of palm), and Taco Salad (walnut chorizo) and they were all exceptional. As were the tots, of course. It was hard to decide on those three, so many items looked tantalizing. The seating area is brightly lit and comfortable with local art on the walls and a super friendly staff that, for me, was the quintessence of happy dining. I highly recommend.

Deliciously fried monte cristo sandwich. Super tasty barbecue sandwich too. The tots were okay but in big portions which is good for $6. Super friendly employee. Lovely peanut butter tart dessert and soft dense pumpkin brownie in a little muffin shape.

As soon as you walk in the door, you're surrounded by good energy. Not to mention if Brandy (s/p?) is working, you're greeted with a warm, loving and welcoming smile :-) ... You'll feel at home. Love that the dining room is decorated with art for sale. Careful, there's a delicious display of desserts to tempt you while you order at the counter. I've been craving a Rueben and this hit the spot. The jackfruit is delicious, kraut soooo zingy and the house made 1K dressing scrumptious. The rye bread appeared toasted but it was really soft, almost soggy, but the innards were so good I didn't GAF. I also ordered the caesar wrap as a bowl. So so good. Romaine was fresh and crisp, plenty of shredded "parm" and just enough soy curls. Oh, I forgot to hold the croutons, but holy moly I'm glad I F:ed the one up, cause those suckers were the highlight. They were fresh and a bit salty, so they really took the place of "anchovy" flavor in a real caeser. I love that they do their part for the earth too: there's recycle and compost containers for when you bus your table. I can sum up my visit here by saying: I arrived in KC today from two weeks in Portland, the Mecca of vegan foods. Long story, short, I was really bummed to leave Portland and come to KC because of the lack of options for all vegan restaurants, but Tree Hugger is a savior and now I can have a go-to place in KC. Thank you to the entire team! I'll be a familiar face every time I'm in town,

Was excited to try this place. First, the positive my sandwich was very tasty! But here's the butt for a sandwich to be over $12 I should be full and this sandwich just left me wanting another one. I felt like there was no separation of ingredients, I've made this dish myself and I usually dye the jack fruit in a beet, tamarin, veg broth marinade, So as to give the color of corn beef and the flavor. Also jackfruit need to be hot and Sourkraut cold so as to give off the different temperatures and contrasts. Any who tasty but needed to be at least twice the size

100% vegan restaurant. Impressive menu. Warps. Burgers. Tacos. Burritos. You name it. Also a rotation of pastries. We went to this place on our way to our hotel from the airport. Uber dude said this place used to be a subway. Wow. What an upgrade. Friendly staff. Clean place. Decor is pretty cool. But the food was really good. I got the Montecristo which is a deep fired triple decker sandwich and my wife got the fish tacos. Both really good. Definitely recommend it

Taco salad and the chicken mustard Sammy as a wrap. Both excellent! Will be back!

Such super nice clean cute place to have lunch. All food was great! Service was fast too. Love that they recycle and compost.

Memo to Kansas City - we need MORE places like this amazing joint!!! Meateaters - I guarantee you won't be missing animal flesh when you eat this delicious food! I don't usually get high and mighty as a flexitarian, but this place absolutely gets to claim superiority over everyone else. The chick'n Caesar wrap is to die for! The Reuben is revolutionary. The fries are craveable. I will make it my mission in life to order everything off this menu. Super kind service, even though we came in 15 mins before close. So glad to be able to support this amazing place and their incredible team!

Bay Boy is THAT Boy! I'm thrilled to have another location of Bay Boy in the Northland, which is…read moresuch an up and coming neighborhood. This Bay Boy is a small window located inside The Commons which is connected to Cinderblock Brewery but, don't be fooled by its small stature it still carries the full menu of the West Plaza location. The one thing it boasts is you can grab a brew from with The Commons bar or from Cinderblock while your sandwich is crafted. And don't fret because these sandwiches are well worth any wait they may take! What makes Bay Boy utterly unforgettable is the Dutch crunch bread. This unique crackly slightly crunchy but still, oh so pillowy soft bread is the perfect vessel to hold all the fillings of any of the sandwiches on the extensive menu. My number one recommendation sadly is not always on the menu but if you catch it you better order it! It is called The Blue Blaze and it consists of juicy white meat turkey, peppery arugula, melty mild white cheddar and locally sourced spicy blueberry jam. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory with a kick. Another winner is the Wagyu Nebraskan if you want a bougie take on a Rueben. The Wagyu corned beef is locally sourced and is melt in your mouth paired with a slightly sweet kraut, nutty Swiss cheese and the tangy thousand island this sandwich is an elevated take on a classic. Another winner, well let's just face it any sandwich at Bay Boy is a winner winner chicken dinner (in the words of the iconic Guy Fieri), but let's focus on another rift of a classic sandwich the El Jefe. This is Bay Boy's take on a Cubano but unlike its predecessor the bread isn't flat or pressed it's on a Dutch crunch roll like every sandwich on the menu. The mojo pork is buttery and fatty- in a good way- making the meat so moist that combined with salty ham, melted Swiss and zingy briny pickles makes for a killer combination. Don't forget the mustard! And how Bay Boy makes it there own is with an addition of a zesty vibrant red pepper sauce. You can't help but to love El Jefe. I could go on and on about how each sandwich is unparalleled but, I'll just bore you with one more...The Bay Boy, I couldn't cover Bay Boy's without mentioning the sandwich that the restaurant was named after (or was it the other way around) anyways it doesn't matter. The Bay Boy is a cold sandwich (unlike the other ones I mentioned which are all toasty) which may sound simple but, the medley of flavors is paired down perfection. No pile of meats just stand alone Soppressata which shouldn't need any introduction because it's the superior salami. This sandwich gets sauced down with not one, not two but four sauces that make the sandwich anything but dry. Classic mayo and mustard are alongside a creamy pungent garlic sauce and a red pepper sauce, which is a mix of cherry and banana peppers. Then produce is added for freshness, think lettuce, tomato and zippy raw red onions (my personal favorite) with pickles of course! This truly is a sandwich masterpiece.

Finally made it over to Bay Boy in North Kansas City inside the Commons and yeah... I get why…read morepeople keep talking about it. It's a walk-up window, super lowkey, but the food is not playing. I got a turkey sandwich with gouda and peppers, added blueberry jam, and grabbed a bag of chips on the side. The bread is really what sets it off. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, and it actually holds everything together. The turkey and gouda were solid, peppers gave it a little bite, and that blueberry jam added just enough sweetness to balance everything out without being weird about it. I paused after the first bite because it caught me off guard in a good way. Finished the whole thing, chips and all. Simple setup, really good food, and I'll absolutely be back.
